Cavaliers Finalize Coaching Staff
The Cleveland Cavaliers announced today that Paul Pressey, Chris Jent, Jamahl Mosley and Joe Prunty have been named assistant coaches on Head Coach Byron Scott's staff. The announcement was made by Cavaliers General Manager Chris Grant and Head Coach Byron Scott.
Pressey comes to Cleveland with 27 seasons of NBA experience, including spending the last three seasons with the New Orleans Hornets on Coach Scott's staff. Prior to joining New Orleans, he was an assistant coach with the Celtics as a member of Doc Rivers' staff from 2004-06 and served as advance scout during the 2006-07 season. Pressey also spent time with the Orlando Magic (2000-04), Golden State Warriors (1992-94) and the San Antonio Spurs (1994-2000) as an assistant coach, helping the Spurs win their first-ever NBA Championship in 1999. The Richmond, VA native was selected as the 21st overall pick in the 1982 NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks and averaged 10.6 points, 5.6 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game over his 11-year NBA career. Pressey graduated from the University of Tulsa and helped lead the team to a 50-13 record in his two seasons with the Golden Hurricanes, including the 1981 NIT Championship.
Cavaliers Release Statement Regarding Lorenzen Wright
Cavaliers GM Chris Grant released a statement about the death of former Cavalier Lorenzen Wright -
Our thoughts and prayers are for Lorenzen Wright’s family as they deal with these very tough and tragic circumstances. For those of us that worked with Lorenzen, we knew him as a very vibrant, friendly, caring, young human being. I spent a lot of time with Lorenzen in Atlanta, and then here again in Cleveland, and was very, very saddened to hear the news of his death. He will be missed by many.
Our thoughts go out to Wright's family and friends.
Lesson Learned: Don't Mess with Cleveland Fans
If there was any doubt that Cleveland had some of the most dedicated, loyal fans in all of sports, think again.
A spectator who was sporting a LeBron James Miami Heat jersey drew the crowd into a frenzy in the sixth inning of last nights' Cleveland Indians game was escorted out of the ballpark by security personnel.
Hundreds of fans seated in Progressive Field's left-field bleacher section started chanting obscenities and pointing at the man in the sixth inning of last nights Indians game against the New York Yankees. As the man was escorted out of Progressive Field a number of fans followed him towards the gate as they began yelling more derisive chants and throwing debris.
Ex-Cav Lorenzen Wright Found Dead
Today, Memphis authorities found the body of former Cleveland Cavalier and University of Memphis basketball player Lorenzen Wright. Police officials located the body in a heavily wooded area southeast of Memphis. Reports say Wright was a victim of multiple gunshots and was robbed of tens of thousands of dollars.
Missing since July 19, Wright was believed to have been carrying a significant amount of money when he was last seen in downtown Memphis.
A Memphis native, Wright was in town to visit a number of friends and his six children. He was expected to drive back to Atlanta with his children and a friend the day of his disappearance.
Wright was somewhat of a hometown hero to the Memphis area as he played for the University of Memphis and later for the Memphis Grizzlies. Lorenzen Wright joined the Cavaliers in 2008 and played only one season in Cleveland.
Although he only spent one year in Cleveland, Lorenzen Wright will be missed by fans and loved ones alike. Please keep the Wright family in your thoughts and prayers.
A Very Early Guessing Game
Okay, we have weathered the storm so far. The season-ending loss to the Celtics hurt for a long time, but that pain has faded now and is like the scab underneath the bandage which heals as long as it is not continually picked at, until all that is left is a scar. LeBron? He has been gone long enough that we have reconciled ourselves to going on without him. As the President said in "Independence Day" we're going to survive.
Yes, it is quite clear that a 60-win season will not happen this year, might not happen in a decade or a generation, for after all, it took 39 years for the Cavaliers to win 60 games for the first time...but we're going to survive.
Cavaliers Upgrade Court Design For 2010-2011
Not only is the roster getting a makeover, but the Cavaliers home court at The Q is getting a face-lift as well. The team has released a graphic of what the new court will look like - including the altered color scheme. So, do you like it?
Cavaliers Acquire PG Ramon Sessions, C Ryan Hollins For Delonte West, Sebastian Telfair
The Cleveland Cavaliers have acquired guard Ramon Sessions, center Ryan Hollins and Minnesota's second round pick in the 2013 NBA Draft from the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for guards Delonte West and Sebastian Telfair, Cavaliers General Manager Chris Grant announced today.
"In Ramon, we're excited to add a young, multi-dimensional guard, and with Ryan, we're adding a young, athletic center. We think both Ramon and Ryan are really good fits for this team. We're also happy to add another asset for the future with the additional draft pick," said Cavaliers General Manager Chris Grant. "At the same time, we'd like to thank Sebastian and Delonte and wish them well in the future."
Sessions, 24, played in all 82 games (one start) during the 2009-10 season, averaging 8.2 points on a career-high .456 shooting, 2.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 21.1 minutes per game. His 3.1 assists per game ranked 8th among all reserves last season. Prior to signing with the Timberwolves before the 2009-10 season, the 6-foot-3 guard played his first two seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks. He posted career highs in scoring, assists and steals during the 2008-09 season, averaging 12.4 points on .445 shooting, 3.4 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 1.1 steals in 27.5 minutes per game in 79 games (39 starts). In the 39 starts, he upped his averages to 15.1 points on .444 shooting, 4.2 rebounds, 7.6 assists and 1.3 steals in 33.7 minutes per game. Sessions finished the 2008-09 season ranked among the league leaders in assists-to-turnovers ratio (8th at 2.97) and assists per game (18th at 5.7).
Ramon Sessions: Major Coup for Cleveland
Hey FTS crew, Mike Payne here, editor of DetroitBadBoys and a genuine brother-in-respect to the tragedy you all dealt with this summer. I can't imagine how much it stings, but I'm confident that your team has a chance to put up a winning record in 2010-11.
As a long time fan of Ramon Sessions, I feel that your team has secured a coup in acquiring the most underrated point guard in the league. I've long followed Sessions, annoyed my peers on DetroitBadBoys about my love for the young fella, and still wish he could be a Piston.
I submit this link as I have long scouted Ramon and thought that, in case some of you aren't familiar with him, he is a fantastic talent that has never truly been given a chance to shine.
This is a much bigger win for the Cavs than the rest of the league may understand. While your starting point may be locked up under Mo Williams, if Sessions winds up with starters minutes your record will be better for it.
Best of luck in 2010-11. Know that may of us Detroit Pistons fans never had any qualms with your city, your jersey or your team, just the princess that is now working on her tan in south beach.
