NBA Rumors: Chris Kaman On The Trade Block
Reports out of New Orleans are that the Hornets are actively shopping newly acquired center, Chris Kaman. He doesn't really fit into the future plans GM Dell Demps has for the team.
There are rumors floating around the inter webs that there is some moderate interest from the Cavaliers and GM Chris Grant. Kaman, who is in the final year of his deal which pays him $14 million this year, is set to be an unrestricted free agent in the summer.
Kaman has had a terrible start with the Hornets and about the only thing he's even done passably well is make his free throws. Wait, he's only shot 19 of them. Yea, he's been gross this year. He's a low efficiency big man who doesn't ever get to the stripe and seriously do anything even average except maybe grab defensive boards.
There is one scenario where we should be interested in Kaman, but no more. Find out what that is after the jump.
Game #18 Recap: Nets 99, Cavaliers 96
I'll be honest, it wasn't that close. The Nets got really hot shooting the ball and outscored the Cavaliers 30-20 in the first quarter. The Cavs weren't able to close the gap at all until the fourth quarter and by then it was just too little, too late.
Cavs Leaders: Points: Irving, 32; Rebounds: Varejao, 9; Assists: Gibson, 4
Quick Thoughts:
Here's what I wrote in my preview:
Kyrie Irving is better, after playing just 16 games, than former all-world point guard Deron Williams has played with New Jersey.
Seems like a pretty reasonable statement to me. Deron Williams hasn't played great this season or in the end of last season when he was with the Nets. I never said that Kyrie was overall better than Deron or that he would even finish the year ahead of him. All I said was that up to this point, in the small sample size of the season, Kyrie outplayed Deron. That's all.
Well, here's apparently what a lot of people thought that I wrote:
DERON WILLIAMS IS THE WORST BASKETBALL PLAYER OF ALL TIME. HE WILL BE OUT OF THE LEAGUE IN TWO YEARS AND PROBABLY REGRETS EVER BEING IN NEW JERSEY. HE PROBABLY WISHES HE RETIRED INSTEAD OF GOING TO NEW JERSEY. I HAVE SEEN DRUNKEN BABIES THAT PLAY POINT GUARD BETTER THAN D-WILL. KYRIE IRVING IS BETTER THAN MICHAEL JORDAN. HE IS AND FOREVER WILL BE, THE BEST PLAYER ALIIVVVEEEEEEEEEEE.
(Hint: I didn't write that. Well, I mean just now I wrote it, but I didn't write it in my preview)
Anyway, back to the game.
The Cavs as a whole were really sloppy and just didn't bring as much energy as the Nets. New Jersey was getting open jumpers early and kept knocking them down. As I said, they jumped out to a 10 point lead in the first quarter and Cleveland could never really cut into that lead. By the time the fourth quarter came around and Kyrie realized that he could score whenever he wanted, it was too late.

Game #18 Preview: New Jersey Nets at Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cavaliers beat the Nets the last time these two teams played by a score of 98-82. Remember that game? That was the game when Nets fans were getting upset at me for picking the Cavs over their super talented team. Fast forward to today and the Nets are 6-13 and still terrible. This should be oodles of fun.
Song Of The Day: What I Got - Sublime
Tonight's Overview:
New Jersey Nets (6-13) at Cleveland Cavaliers (7-10)
The Cavs are coming off a nice win against the Knicks and the Nets are coming off a completely inexplicable win against the Sixers. Could the Nets actually be improving and worthy of the irrational praise they receive from their fan base? I'm going to go out on a limb and say that no, they are not actually improving and that their win over the Sixers was a fluke. Other than the fact that New Jersey has like 15 guys with the last name "Williams" on their team, I can't really find any other reason why anybody should care about this team.
LOLWUTOMG YOU FORGOT WE CAN HAZ DERON WILLIAMS THO. Okay, calm down. Here's why I'm not really excited about Deron Williams: he's been awful this year. What the hell happened to the D-Will that was worthy of being one of the league's top point guards next to Chris Paul? It seems like he forgot to come to Jersey when Utah traded him. His FG% completely fell off when he got to the Nets. He shot 34.9% from the field with the Nets last year and is shooting a similarly miserable 39% from the field this year. His assist rates are still doing okay, although they have fallen off a good amount. Part of this is a result of having a garbage team around him, but he also just isn't playing as well. You'd figure that the scoring would still be there, right? As of right now, he's on pace to put up the worst PER of his career since his second year in the league.
If any Nets fans are reading this, make sure to have a seat and grab a paper bag before scrolling down and reading my next sentence.

Kyrie Irving is better, after playing just 16 games, than former all-world point guard Deron Williams has played with New Jersey.
Whoa, that was extreme. Okay, there are a few conditions to this statement. This doesn't mean that Kyrie is better than Deron ever was or that he will even finish the season better than him. But as of right now, the Deron Williams that the Nets got in the trade with the Jazz has been less than what they expected. So much so, that a rookie point guard is outplaying him. Right now, I'd put Kyrie Irving in the All-Star Game over Williams
Key Matchup:
MarShon Brooks vs. Alonzo Gee
I'm not sure if this matchup will actually happen, but as of late, Gee has just been guarding the best scorer on each team they face. And he's been phenomenal. He's really bothered LeBron, Kobe, and Melo this season. Brooks is one of the Nets few decent offensive players and if Gee can shut him down, it will be very difficult for the Nets to score effectively.
Fear The Sword's Fearless Prediction:
The Cavs once again beat the Nets and Kyrie gets back on track after his off shooting night against New York. Kyrie scores 19 points and Cleveland wins, 95-87.
Stern Fix Our Cavs: A GSTQ Remake
It's a goal of mine to move out to London after I finish school. In my studies of the UK, I've come to adore their national anthem. Today I bring you my own version of the song with lyrics relating to our Cleveland Cavaliers.
As you read this, you're going to want to split screen these lyrics I wrote with this version of God Save the Queen. I hope you know the rhythm of the song and how each line sings. Otherwise, you'll likely be pretty lost.
Get ready to sing along after the jump.
Game #17 Recap: Cavaliers 91, Knicks 81
The four game losing streak ended Wednesday night as the Cavaliers took care of business on their home floor and beat the visiting Knicks by a score of 91-81.
Cavs Leaders: Points: Jamison, 15; Rebounds: Varejao, 16; Assists: Irving, 7
Quick Thoughts:
The Cavs basically played like crap. They went about 8 minutes in the second quarter and scored just 4 points on the New York Knicks defense. Once again, they had way too many turnovers (19) and we just all-around really sloppy. Fortunately, the Knicks are even more dysfunctional. The Knicks committed 23 turnovers and had an even more stagnant offense. Amare Stoudemire led New York with 19 fairly empty points on 19 shots. He had some nice dunks down low as no one on the Cavs can really check him, but he made some careless offensive fouls and for some reason the Knicks refuse to run pick and rolls. If they watched any film from Amare's time in Phoenix (I loved those teams, I watched them all the time), they would know that he is virtually unguardable as the roll-man on a PnR. The Knicks, however, have zero guards capable of running an effective pick and roll. That's just one of the reasons why I believe Mike D'Antoni will be fired and also why I believe he will be wrongly fired. It's not his fault that the front office assembled a roster that doesn't fit with his offensive schemes at all.

Kyrie leads Grantland's Rookie Rankings
[Editor's note: FP'd
Sebestain Pruiti at Grantland has posted rookie rankings throughout the season and Kyrie Irving has moved to first place this week. I had never read his work before it appeared on Grantland but it seems to be very well done. He uses advanced metrics to analyze players and gives pictorial evidence and detailed breakdowns in his rankings. Tristan Thompson was in the top 10 earlier this season but has fallen to just outside the rankings now as other players have stepped up.
