LeBron's day in NY: ESPN and the rest of the NY media machine are firing on all cylinders + POLL
Just to preface everything, this is the first time I've used pictures and videos in a fanpost. So please bear with me if it's not presented in the most organized fashion, I'm still learning.
The media is really buzzing with stories of LeBron heading to NY today. These are the sotries that I found most intriguing. I think the ESPN article from Chris Broussard was the best piece written on LeBron's future since the big trades on Friday. The shoes show an obvious infatuating LeBron has with NY. And it's nice to see LeBron actually talk a little about the situation in the video, although he does do a good job of dodging most of the questions.
Anyway, let me know what you think about the topic. It's obviously becoming a huge story not only for Cleveland and NY, but the entire league.
Chris Broussard - ESPN The Magazine:LeBron leaving Cleveland? 'It's not a foregone conclusion'
Here are a few of the main points from the article:
I've had several conversations with LeBron about his future, and I can tell you that anyone who says he's definitely leaving Cleveland doesn't know what he's talking about.
"It's not a foregone conclusion that he's leaving,'' a person close to LeBron said. "It's premature to make that assumption.''
Money probably won't play much of a role in LeBron's decision because he'll obviously be filthy rich no matter where he goes. Cleveland can pay him the most, roughly $133 million over six years, while everyone else can offer about $102 mil over five. And contrary to popular opinion, LeBron does not get more money from Nike if he plays in New York. That clause in his contract expired after his rookie season.
LeBron knows he's not competing against only Kobe, Dwyane Wade, Boston's big three and the rest of the league's stars; he's got to approach Jordan. That obviously takes plenty of titles. One, two and maybe even three, won't do. So, in 2010, what team is going to give him the best chance to win ring after ring after ring?
But Jordan didn't just win championships. He built a dynasty from scratch. That's the mentality LeBron was raised with by his coaches in Akron -- that you have to build something to have a legacy.
"He's obsessed with living in New York,'' another friend told me recently.
LeBron is a fashion plate, and what better place to show off your wares than New York. He clearly likes the limelight and the Hollywood scene, so playing in front of the Garden's famous actors, actresses, athletes, rappers, et al would undoubtedly appeal to him. Also, some of the people around LeBron would rather see him in New York, where they believe he's more marketable, than in Cleveland.
Speaking of fashion, check out the new shoe Lebron made to commemorate what the guys on PTI refferd to as Lebron's "favorite city."
Nike Zoom LeBron 6 "Big Apple"
In tomorrow’s game, LeBron will take the court in this exclusive colorway of his latest sneaker called the Nike Zoom LeBron 6 "Big Apple". Obviously, the colorway receives its inspiration from New York City’s nickname. The upper is covered in "candy apple" red perforated leather and patent leather accents. This sneaker is complimented with a uniquely speckled midsole as well.
Personaly, that shoe reminds me of Scottie Pippen's Cinderella slippers in the 1994 All-Star game.

And don't forgot about the previous shoe he released before a game in MSG
Yankees Edition Nike Zoom Lebron 5
King James conquered the Knicks last March when he came to the Garden and put up 50 points, 10 assists, 8 rebounds while wearing the NY themed Nike Zoom Lebron 5 "Yankees."
And then we have some video courtesy of ESPN
Lebon chatting with screaming Stephen about his expectations for the Cavs and where he might end up after the summer of 2010.
Here's a Rachel Nichols report about the warm welcome LeBron is expected to recieve in the MSG.
And just for the heck of it, let it be known that I most definitely "Chalked" before creating this fanpost.

No problem
I’ve been waiting for what I’ve felt would be “the definitive article” on the whole situation, and I think that was it. Then I saw the videos and the stuff about the shoes on ESPN today so I thought I’d throw all that in as well. All together I thought these were some of the main points showing the different sides of the whole situation.
Sadly, after putting all of this together, all signs seem to point towards a good possibility of LeBron heading to NY. I think the only thing that would keep him in Cleveland would be if he feels they have a legitimate shot at a dynasty.
I’m not even a Cavs fan at heart, but the team has grown on me ever since LeBron was drafted. And furthermore, I hate to see any team have it’s foundation pulled out from under it when it’s right on the verge of something big.

I’m not sure why you think LeBron’s going to New York. I believe that, as long as the Cavs continue to build a championship-caliber team, he’ll stay in Cleveland. He can get more money here and he wants to build a legacy. Winning multiple titles in Cleveland will make him a hero and cement his place as one of the all-time greats. He mentioned that Tim Ducan stayed in San Antonio, which isn’t a big market, and built a dynasty there. I think the Cavs winning a championship the next two years will help convince LeBron to stay. And Ferry needs to continue to improve the team around him, which he’s certainly done. This year’s team is a much better team than the one which made the finals two years ago.
Also, here’s another great article from SI.com about LeBron and the free agent class of 2010. I linked to this in another post but you may not have seen it.

That was a good story, and no I hadn't seen that before
It was definitely a bit more optomistic about LeBron staying in Cleveland.
I completely agree with you about LeBron staying if the Cavs can win a championship, or at least make a big move to put them right on the verge. I actually voted for let’s wait and see what the Cavs can do.
LeBron wants to create a dynasty, and if Cleveland is able to put him on the cusp of that, there’s no way he leaves. But it seems that LeBron desperately wants to move to the big city, but he wants a Dynasty more. I just think that if Cleveland slacks on putting together a dynasty type roster LeBron will hardly think twice about bolting.
Pardon me for going a little Bill Simmons on you with a sports to real life analogy, but it kind of seems to me like LeBron is a women that’s been in a long-term relationship. She really likes the guy and sees potential in him. They’ve been through some real ups and downs together, but so far it’s only brought them closer together. However, she realizes that she can get anyone she wants. The guy she’s with wants to marry her, but she’s waiting for him to land that big job on the horizon so they can secure their future together and start a happy family.
But if he slacks off, doesn’t take care of business, and doesn’t land the job, she’s got 10+ other coproate CEOs that are looking for a beautful trophy wife to have by their side. That way she’d be set for life and would finally have the money and connections to start that fashion line she’s been dreaming of since she was a little girl. She might even be able to have a voice that can reach out to empower other women around the world. She knows she’d be throwing loyalty out the window, and burn bridges with a lot of long time friends, but the life of glitz, glamour, and power has a strong pull.
Alright, I might have put a little too much thought into that analogy. I apologize to anyone that I might have offended by comparing LeBron to a woman.

Haha, good analogy. But if that was a real Bill Simmons analogy then it would involve some sort of reality show.

I'm a Warrior fan
And I hope that LeBron stays with Cleveland (unless he wants to come to GOlden State) because I hate all this speculation about him going to the garbage Knicks. People are acting like he already signed a deal with the Knicks or the Nets. Go on the Knicks site and everyone is already thinking about who they should sign after LeBron accepts their deal. Why does Cleveland get no love. I sincerely hope that LeBron remains a Cavalier for at least one more contract. As long as he doesn’t go to the Knicks, Nets, or Lakers, I’m happy. But I’ll be happiest if he’s a Warrior (which isn’t going to happen, so a Cav.)

Why would LeBron want to join either NYC-area team? They’re both horrendous.
I like this article about the situation.

Yes, the Knicks are horrendout now. But what I’m worried about is them having enough cap space to sign both LeBron and another superstar like Bosh. Add those two guys to any NBA roster and they’d be an instant contender (especially when you throw in a couple lottery picks).
