You never say never in the NBA; perhaps circumstances will change. But as of right now the Cavs and Heat are not in trade talks concerning Marion and Varejao. This is from multiple team sources. That is just so you know I'm not making it up or whatever, but it makes sense if you just think about it.

Right now the Cavs are not sure what they want to do, but they don't want to mess with this team's chemistry. They are considering their options, but history tells us that teams don't really get serious about trading for expiring contracts (which is what the Cavs have to use) until near the trading deadline. That is a long way away and options will be discussed for those months.

What the Cavs need is another big man and Marion isn't a big man and Varejao is. So if they made such a deal they'd be in worse shape. Which is why I said before, it doesn't make much sense.

Also, if the Cavs are going to use Wally Szczerbiak's contract they are going to go for a home run. This next trade very well may be the most important in Cavs history. So it has to be just right. I will write about this a lot more in the coming weeks, just know that right now this rumor isn't true -- Brian Windhorst

I’m glad. I think we can do far better than that trade.

I absolutely want to trade Wally and Snow, and have no problem trading away Andy. As long as we have enough big men, we can let Andy go. He’s gone at the end of the season anyway.

I’d really like Antawn Jamison over Marion, and I think Andy+Wally could get that done come Feb. We might even get a draft pick back.

Then we could move Snow and miscellaneous other pieces for another piece and turn this roster into a powerhouse.

Also glad we’re not taking on Marion. Didn’t see the benefit for either team. If you’re the Heat, you’re not getting any extra cap room since all the contracts come off the books next year anyways. If you’re the Cavs, you’re taking on a player who has repeatedly stated he wants to be “the man” somewhere and putting him on a team where he most definitely will not.

Snow is not getting moved. The Cavs are waiting for the insurance money coming after he misses a certain amount of consecutive games. There’s a chance they could move his contract, but it doesn’t seem like it’s in the team’s plans.

I highly doubt we’d get Jamison AND a draft pick for the Wally/Andy combination, but it’s definitely true that we’ll have a better beat on the market closer to February when the bad teams shake themselves out a little more clearly.

As for the other miscellaneous other peices, I’m not sure how that works. Everyone seems to have a pretty well-defined role that suits them pretty well through the first quarter of the season. I don’t see who would be tradeable and still have value for another team other than Wally and AV. I suppose you could make a case for Sasha if he continued to play well consistently (however unlikely that might be).

This team seems to be, at most, one move away. Best get it right on the first try.

Hickson and Jackson would fall into the misc category, but I was speaking more specifically about Sasha. He could be worth more elsewhere than he is here.

Snow’s expiring contract could be just as valuable (or even more of you’re into tanking for lottery chances) to someone as Wally’s. Sometimes it really is just about the cap space. $7M off the books is valuable.

Don’t forget Jamison is 32 with three more years and $40M owed after this season and the Wizards are an inch away from detonating their team. It’s not a “bad” contract given his productivity and health but it’s not a rebuilding-friendly contract.

Yeah I’m happy this isn’t “the deal” that we’d be considering messing up chemistry

“messing up chemistry for” is what I meant to say.
