Gilbert: Lebron Talk Insults Cleveland
I love when the news is about the news. In this case, Cavs owner Dan Gilbert is angry about the media's constant speculation that Lebron is skipping town when his contract is up.

I think he’s going to leave and we will once again get nothing in exchange for a superstar. I pray I’m wrong but I have a feeling Mr. Stern will be acting behind the scenes to make it happen.
Lets hope that LeBron stays and multiple titles are in the future but if he does in fact want out I hope he has the decency to let ownership know so we can somehow at least get something in return via a trade.
Either way, it’s 2 years out. And if we’re at a conference championship level or better for those 2 years, it would probably be too risky for him to jump ship to a non-contender.
Basically, as long as the Cavs are right there, he has 3 choices:
Go to a contender, where he won’t really be the savior
Go to a lousy team with cap space and hope things work out like they have here
Stay in Cleveland and continue winning
His ideal situation is probably one like this year’s Sixers, with Lebron playing the role of Elton Brand, and you certainly can’t predict that scenario until the season plays out.
With all of the anti Ohio bias in the media (thanks mostly to Ohio State) the media will be campaigning for him to leave, investors such as Nike will be pressuring him to leave and I’ll bet the farm that Stern will try and work it so he gets an offer he can’t refuse. I hate to say it but we are going to get screwed over here. The media openly roots for our teams to fail and not only wants LeBron in a big market because he’ll simply be a bigger story but there exists a strong feeling that we simply don’t DESERVE a superstar here in Cleveland. When you listen to douchebags like Stephen A. Smith or Skip Bayless talk about Cleveland you can sense that “how dare they” “Cleveland should not have a Star we must right this injustice” attitude in their voice. Any accomplishment by the Cavs is marginalized. Our wins in the playoffs are chalked up to the other team not showing up, not the Cavs playing well.
I know this sounds paranoid but I am convinced that the NBA and big money sponsers will do anything they can to get their superstars to a major market. Can anyone think of an NBA superstar that played his entire career in a small market? When I mean superstar I mean players that are not only among the best at their position but also cross over into popular culture.
For example, Tim Duncan while a fantastic player and probable Hall of Famer would not fall into this catagory while Dwayne Wade would. No one outside of Basketball knows who Tim Duncan is while D-Wade is familiar to many non NBA fans due to his commercials, charisma, ect….. If he had been drafted by say….. Seattle, I have a feeling there would be similar sentiment in the national media for him to leave, screw over Seattle and go to L.A. or New York.
Lastly, if someone did offer LeBron 50 Million I really couldn’t blame the kid for leaving town.
