Battered and bruised Cavaliers head to Washington

After some computer troubles of my own, and with the network - the latter which killed the open thread last night - I am back and better than ever. Hopefully, we'll be saying that about some of the injured Cavaliers, especially across the front-line.

Here is the latest -

Jamario Moon -- Moon left last night's game vs. the Golden State Warriors with 11:03 remaining in the 3rd quarter with a sprained left ankle. He did not return to the game. He traveled with the team to Washington and is listed as QUESTIONABLE for tomorrow night's game versus the Wizards.

That's the good news. Now for the not so good.

Anderson Varejao - Varejao did not play in the game vs. Golden State (hip contusion). He traveled with the team to Washington but is listed as OUT for tomorrow night's game.

Shaquille O'Neal - Shaq also missed the game vs. the Warriors (shoulder strain). He did not travel with the team to Washington and will remain in Cleveland to receive treatment.

Leon Powe - Powe is still rehabbing his left knee.

Delonte West - Your guess is as good as mine. West is due in court in a couple days, so I'd imagine we won't be seeing him for awhile. At what point do the Cavaliers simply move on without West??

Geez…

We really are having bad luck with all these injuries. Thank God that JJ and Parker are playing such amazing ball right now. Its exciting to see what JJ can do. If he can refine his game on the defensive end, he will play a huge role in the team’s success this season.

Prior to these injuries, I think Mike Brown was starting to get a feel for who plays well together and how to get the best out of these guys with substitutions and minutes. Hopefully these guys get back soon.

WHY...

are people so eager to dump West..the Cavs have said they’ll support him-despite the attempted trade with GSW (it is still just business)-and so should we…his offensive game has taken a hit but defensively he’s still the same…Unless you know as much as the Cavs management about the situation it is best to just report the facts and leave your lack of loyalty at the door…West has NOT been an obvious distraction and when he is ready, he’ll help this team just like last year
Why not focus on the positives??….JJ was 9-9..3-4 on FTs ..9 reb..only 2 TOs and 2 fouls

I tend to agree with this. West isn’t really killing us right now since the team has already adjusted to filling his minutes with other players (Moon’s injury on the other hand is a problem, maybe its time for D. Green to get in some games). At this point I view West as a potential low risk high reward going forward, the low risk is him taking up a roster spot that seriously who are we going to fill with? Antonio Daniels (i.e. not much more than replacement level)? so why not hold onto him (much like Powe) and see if he pans out into something. His upside is much greater than anything else we can put in that roster spot right now.

Possibly A.I.?

Just a wild suggestion here: I was thinking since the Cavs seem to have a penchant for mercurial 2 guards, why not try out AI? Maybe with Shaq in the locker room, he’ll see a superstar accepting his new role and hopefully this will rub off on him. What do you guys think?

So in effect its A.I. over West. Not really sure how this ends up being any better, though I know you were just throwing it out there as a possibility and sure it can be considered. West at his peak simply fits in better than what A.I. has demonstrated is his current peak (i.e. he’s not the player physically that he used to be).

One can only hope

Delonte can get back to those peak performing days. Bipolar disorder is not such an easy thing to overcome. And let’s not forget the long arms of the law and Stu Jackson. At this point, I think it makes more sense seeing an “over the hill” A.I. playing than seeing DW wasting his talents on the bench.

On another note, I hear murmurs from Boston trying to sign Andres Nocioni. If Ferry is true in his intent of looking for a strech four, I think he should take a look at that as well.

I remember that bloke. Did not like his game in Chicago. Not a very good fit on D. An iffy 3 point shooter as well.

Only 48 minutes in a game

Throughout his career, AI has demanded a high percentage of ball time in any given game. He still does even though he has lost a step or two. If he and Lebron are on the floor at the same time, who do you think is going to get the most touches? It wouldn’t be a good fit for either the team or AI.

Not eager to dump him....

But the fact that he was reportedly brought up in conversations with GS lets me know the Cavs will consider it. His contract is very trade friendly, so I’m sure it won’t be the last time we hear about it….

At what point do the Cavaliers simply move on without West??

THIS sentence is what makes it look like that is your preference…My answer would be this:…when the legal system and/or the league make their respective judgments about his future…as far as I’m concerned the GSW scenario would have been one troubled (because of illness) player for another troubled (because of attitude) player…MB has more than enough good players…and NOW it is up to him to figure out the rotations that work….We’ll never know if these guys can help the Cavs if he keeps them glued to the bench…Look at Hickson…10 days ago he was a turnover, foul, and missed shot looking for an excuse to happen
