Shaq pays for funeral of murdered North Carolina girl -- very cool

Shaq pays for funeral of murdered North Carolina girl -- very cool.

Even the most loyal professional sports fan will acknowledge there are plenty of athletes and coaches who spark serious head-scratching with their behavior.

Michael Vick’s now infamous dogfighting ring, Plaxico Burress’ gun charges and allegations levied at Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino (yes, he’s a college coach but his compensation and stature is anything but amateur) over an affair and paying for an abortion all easily come to mind.

Against that backdrop it makes what Shaquille O’Neal did all the more noteworthy.

Thanks from a Bobcats fan

Although the tragic story of this poor little girl has made national headlines in the past couple of days, those of us in North Carolina have been praying for and worrying over this precious child for much longer. The very idea that this child’s own mother would do such an inhuman thing is almost beyond belief. When I read that Shaq had been so moved by the situation that he stepped forward and became involved in things the way that he did I was very moved. You are correct, there are so many examples of poor behavior and role modelling by pro athletes nowadays that it makes a classy move such as this all the more impressive.

My hat is off to Shaq and I hope the story gets spread every bit as eagerly as the media leaps to spread all the negative stories they blanket the airwaves with at every chance.
It was a class thing to do. I can guarantee you that Mr. O’Neal will receive a healthy hand from the grateful sellout crowd at tonight’s game.
