Balancing the Offense is the Answer

Ok so i know all of you Cav fans out there that have been paying close attention to our offesne from the very beggining of the season have noticed that our offense is sometimes unbalanced and it's due to the fact that everything is run through LBJ when he is in the game, in turn, making the rest of our players stagnant and confused at times and sometimes confusing their roles within the offense.

Mo is awesome and can score in bunches, but ive noticed that when his defender is a larger 2? he has so much trouble creating offense for himself and its because of his size...same goes for Delonte and Boobie. Anthony Parker is a larger 2 but his offensive game is limited to the 3 point line and seldomly looks to create and draw contact.

Parker has been forcing up so many shots this season compared to last season when he was with the Raptors and i think its because of the fact that he had Jose Calderon distributing the ball, LBJ is awesome on the playmaking front and is an excellent passer to say the least! but having the ball in his hands way to long is not the answer!

could you guys imagine if LBJ never had to handle the ball and set up the offense? how much more freedom he'd have at the wing? and all the green lights popping up in front of his face? i mean LBJ could average like 35ppg!!!!! ..easily...Lebron operating above the 3 point line in hopes to make the right play each and every time down is so unfair to him because "NO ONE CAN STOP HIM!!!!"  i mean HELLO? why have him play the point? what we need is a true point guard to balance the offense and set everyone up and in turn help balance the offense which at times become stagnant to the point where we dont score for 4 minutes straight and we lose to teams like Chicago and Charlotte (no disrespect) but we should be licking our chops when playing those teams.

Any thoughts on how to balance the offense? or do you guys have any PG's in mind that would be help for our team?

balanced offense

I am not a basketball coach so I don’t claim to be an expert in drawing up offenses, but in my un-qualified opinion the Cavs seem to have only 2 offsensive sets: 1) high pick and roll and 2) isolation for Lebron.

1) I want to know why they run so many high pick and rolls with Shaq and Lebron? There is nothing Shaq can do that far from the basket and he’s no longer athletic enough to roll to the hoop, so the opposing defense can double Lebron off the pick and leave Shaq alone. The high pick and roll works ok with Z when he is knocking down his outside shots (which he hasn’t done for 6 months). JJ would be the better guy to set the picks since he can actually roll to the hoop, or I’d like to see the ball in Delonte’s hands and Lebron setting the picks.

2) I agree there is WAY too much standing around when they run the iso. Sometimes Lebron holds the ball too long and lets the clock run down and even if he does dish to a teammate they have to hurry a shot and often don’t have enough time to make another pass. When Lebron draws the extra defenders he is excellent at making the cross-court pass to the weak side. Few defenses are quick enough to recover, but against the ones that are (Orlando) we need to get better at making the second pass (again, if Lebron has left enough time on the clock to make this possible). Orlando is a good example of a team that is excellent at making the second, third, and fourth pass very quickly which is why it is so hard for any defense to close out on their shooters (and they are also excellent at spacing the floor). This is why they knock down so many 3’s

This is my completely un-professional opinion. Interested in hearing other’s thoughts.

Chancey Billips has been the only team in last 15 years to win Championship with a dominate PG

as your are suggesting.
Tony Parker isn’t that type of PG you describe either.
I don’t believe that’s the answer to the offensive problem. Cavs need a allstar wing player coupled with LBJ and a new coaching staff with strategy.

"I tried being reasonable, I didn't like it."
"Go ahead, make my day"
"We boil at different degrees"
"A good man always knows his limitations"
"You've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya punk?"

I’d love Rajon Rondo or maybe even Raefer Alston to play point in Cleveland

The Main Point is True Though

Mo does struggle against taller point guards and LBJ should not have to run the offense at all through the first three quarters. Granted, it could be a lack of discipline LBJs part but true point guard would straighten all that out.

As I said in the other thread, we have more issues than this but it is an issue nontheless.
