where are the coaching adjustments?

Shaq coming into the lineup only highlights a major issue that we've had in the last 3 post seasons - coachin adjustments.  Players in the NBA are in and out all the time.  Teams come up with a working strategy against other teams all the time.  But somehow great coaches (such as Phil Jackson) can identify the problems and a strategy to counter or correct them.  I am a Mike Brown fan, however; this scenerio seems to be his weakness.  And for the life of me, I can't understand why he won't take a class on the subject or at least hire someone on his staff who is good at it.  I'm sure the Cavs front office would give him the cash to do it.  22 games in is long enough to integrate the new players and solve some problems on defense.  He better do it quick.  Otherwise, the top tier teams are just going to expoit these issues in the playoffs.

BTW, I've been reading you guys' posts for a while - just decided to chime in today.

the near comeback in Memphis was not a MB move, it was LeBron scoring 11 straight points down the stretch. Here’s another one. Shaq has been a liability on offense simply because he’s not getting the ball in the right spots. Last year, ball movement greatly improved our offense. That’s why we had the best record in the league. So far this year, Mo has shot us into a deficit in games by just jacking them up. It works when he’s hot but its looks school yard when he’s off. Even LeBron can get “three happy” sometimes and it shows a lack of discipline and it appears that the game plan went out of the window at the first sign of a push by the opposing team.

you hit it perfectly with Shaq and Mo…Shaq HAS to post up low to be effective but the other part of that is less flips and hooks and more two handed slams….As for Mo, move him to the #2 and he’ll shoot less because he’ll have to wait for someone to pass him the ball….Mo used to get in the lane and be fairly effective, but seems to have stopped doing that this year….MB should sub Delonte for Mo when Mo gets trigger happy and isn’t hitting

Adjustments

would all be handled if we had a true PG nuff said

Actually, over the past five or six games-and going back as far as the Memphis game, Mo’s stat line has looked more and more like that of a “true” PG…I just hope he keeps taking the ball into the paint like he did against LA

I don't Think so Nelly

Don’t forget that the other team wants to win too. And when we get into the postseason, we will once again encounter great opposing coaches who will attempt to exploit our weaknesses. At that point, the personnel will not change. Who we have is who we have. Therefore, as I said, some games will come down to whether or not Mike Brown can recognize what the other team is doing and figure out how to counter it. So far, he hasn’t done well against the elite teams in a seven game series.

I Understand

and the further we go along, the more we see that once again, key players aren’t showing up every night and the good old days for Shaq are long gone. We should rest him as much as possible until the post season.

I believe that was the stated plan from the beginning and it seems to have been adhered to thus far…he’s playing about 22 min a game which is enough to keep him “in the flow” and will probably be available for 30 min + per game in the “big” games, should he be needed that much, and through the playoffs…The way MB used him in the Laker game is how he should be utilized EVERY game…I’m sure Gasol’s game was drastically altered when Shaq swatted him like a fly

yep

Mike Brown impressed me this weekend, He used the rwin towers in LA but opted for speed against Houston, That there is what we call a coaching adjustment – twice in one weekend. Keep it up MB and we can put that banner up in the Q

I trust

the big fella (Oneal) he knows what he’s doing out there, and he knows what it takes to win, it’s just a race against time i guess, we need to use every last bit of what he can still offer before he decides he can no longer lace it up.
