shooting guard weakness
i see weakness both offensively and defensively at our shooting guard position. some people want Delonte to start again or for Boobie to get more minutes, since he is playing well. however, i would like to continue to see Delonte coming off the bench because he can play both guard positions and he is our only bench player that can create his own shot off the dribble. also, Boobie is too small to guard most shooting guards so, i like his role to stay the same as well. the change i would like to see is for Danny Green to get some of the 30 minutes that Anthony Parker is getting every nite. say, 10 minutes per game. lets see what he can do as a change of pace for Parker. Green is a similar player in size and ability to Parker, but much younger with more athletism. Anthony Parker seems to do a lot of standing around on offense and looks slow defending young athletic SGs. we need to develop Green now, so he can help in the backcourt come playoff time.

More pressing issues at hand
While I am sure there are others like you that want to see more Danny Green on the court, I believe the Cavs need to address a more glaring weakness: an inside presence. I know what I just said will rankle some fans on this blog and then some, but hear me out. The Shaq that has come to play so far has not been giving the team the expected output, IMHO. Cleveland was supposed to get the Shaq from last season, the Shaq that reinvigorated his career by averaging 18 PPG on 60% shooting, with a career high in FTM%, so much so that he called himself “Shaqovic.” In the game against Orlando a while back, he did a good job neutralizing D12, but in 24 games, I have yet to see a performance save 1 game akin to when he was in Phoenix. The Cavs need easy buckets, because there will be games when jump shots do not fall in (see Houston game). This is not something that can be turned on and off like a lightswitch, so I more or less see this as Shaq’s offensive output from here on out. I do not know how Powe will turn out, but if Ferry will wait for that, the trading deadline will have already passed.

I Agree
Time and time again, Shaq gets abused on defense by centers and guards with quicker feet. As it’s been said in other threads, we need a dunking Shaq, not hooks and skill shots. He needs to punish the other team both on offense and defense. We have Z and JJ who can slide over. There are plenty of fouls to go around.
I also agree that Green should get some time but I doubt it will happen because MB wants the starting unit to gel. However, I know what you’re saying because it’s still early enough to seal up those cracks in our game.
Green
i can see Green producing in just 10 minutes……NOT!
AP is out there 30 mins primarily because Delonte’s situation
Green’s dilemma is of a lower priority than West’s so as soon as Delonte
shows that he’s ready to compete MB cuts into Parker’s minutes and gives them to
West! ..i don’t see Danny using those minutes as effectively as West does…sorry bro

West is not the Answer
As much as I love Delonte (especially for his ability to create his own shot), isn’t it obvious that the Cavs have (rightfully so) lost confidence in him? The race for # 1 in the East is tight and will probably be that way all season. We don’t have time to hope Delonte pulls it together. I say give green a shot early because Parker hasn’t yet proved that he’s the answer either.
From everything that has been written locally, I think “lost confidence in” is a bit strong…Mike Brown’s stated approach-and it would seem his practical approach also-is to play Delonte when both Delonte and the professionals helping him with his mental health issues say he’s good to go and to allow him time for recovery when the opposite is true…I believe MB stated it correctly when he said they know there will be ups and downs and aren’t counting on Delonte to deliver a great performance every night

@ cavslandrocks
basically, if they need reassurance from doctors and have to see where Delonte is emotionally every night, that’s a vote of no confidence. Of course they have to dress their comments up for the press but lets face it, Parker isn’t starting because he’s better than West. He’s starting because he doesn’t have serious issues.

hhmm
I say trade Z, Delonte and a pick for Posey and Okafor down in New Orleans and have Okafor play PF alongside Shaq send Verajao to the bench to back up Shaq and have Hickson back up Okafor, you also can insert Posey for all forward spots and brings that bigger wing defender.
