Should we trade for Anthony Randolph?
Yahoo Sports is saying the Warriors are looking to trade Randolph because they're not getting along:
Warriors’ Randolph on block again
For two seasons, the Warriors have had an odd time with Anthony Randolph. Sometimes, they’re in love with his sheer athletic ability in that 7-foot frame and considered him untouchable. As a rookie, they dangled him in deals, too. Well, it’s happening again. Several NBA teams say Golden State officials have offered Randolph in trade discussions, but as one Eastern Conference executive said: “I think all of their roster could be had.”
Says one Western official: “The Warriors are willing to do anything and everything.”
Randolph is 20 years old and blessed with terrific talent, but his staying power and maturity have frustrated Golden State officials. It appears they’re willing to cash his potential for more mature assets. After destroying the summer league in Vegas, Randolph has averaged 11.1 points in 21.8 minutes per night for the Warriors.
Even with his patriarch, Keith Smart, substituting for an ill Don Nelson, Randolph’s productivity hasn’t improved. Still, he’s so young, so gifted, it’s a move that would come with a great deal of long-term risk.
The warriors have the worst coach in the nba, they have a terrible front office and the entire organization is a mess so i'm willing to give Randolph the benefit of the doubt on that situation. He is incredibly talented and has tremendous upside potential. The warriors and their issues could turn out to be our gain. I remember another contender trading for a talented 7 foot power forward and becoming the nba championship favorites.
This could be our own version of the L.A-Memphis Gasol trade. Our weakest position is probably at PF, i personally don't think the hickson-varejao combination we have going at the moment is championship caliber. Right now i see us as being one of the top 4 elite teams (with the lakers, celtics and magic), if we made this trade i think it puts us ahead of them. We got Shaq to handle Dwight, and if we got Randolph we'd have enough heigh to match up with the lakers. And another positive that would come from getting a guy with so much potential is it would make Lebron feel better about our long term future and give him another reason to resign in 2010.
So what do you guys think?

I agree with the above comment. Golden State is going to want veterans. We don’t have anyone that I would part with for him.
Also, Anthony Randolph is not the same caliber player that Pau Gasol is. I don’t think it puts us over the Lakers.
It would be entertaining to think of giving him the minutes that JJ Hickson takes up right now, or maybe a little more. But like I said, there is nobody Golden State would want that we could give for him without losing too much talent/cohesion/balance.
Hey... Cleveland happens.
Since he only gets 1.9M, it would be rather easy to work….Jawad Williams and Darnell Jackson and maybe a conditional second round pick in 2012 or 2013…..If GS would take that deal I’d do it in a heartbeat
In other words
those are the only players we have that fit salary wise maybe Coby Karl could figure in there somewhere…those are the only players the Cavs have who are young and healthy in the salary range required

Why would Golden State do that deal? You can’t expect to give up two scrubs and get someone good in return.

Did you actually think before you replied?
FIRST..I don’t know why you cop such an attitude with other posters on this blog who are obviously long time Cavs fans…just because you’re one of the “honchos” here doesn’t mean you actually know more than anyone else…nor am I claiming to. Isn’t this-in YOUR own words-a place to discuss basketball and not to denigrate others?
NOW, about why……I was taking this as a one player from GS deal. After reading some other things today, it seems they want to unload their expiring contracts in a package with Randolph which pretty much leaves the Cavs out of the running.
IF this had been a case of wanting to trade only Randolph, who could GS hope to acquire in that salary range who isn’t a “scrub”?…I suggested sweetening the deal with a draft pick (no salary value) to soften the blow of taking two “scrubs”…OBVIOUSLY, the Cavs brain trust disagrees with you as to the value of these two players since the were both virtual locks to make the team from the start. They both played on NCAA championship teams and come from respected basketball schools…Further, the GSW would be reducing their salary while gaining three (two current and one to be drafted) players with potential as opposed to taking on some other team’s excess baggage with a difficult to trade contract for the expiring contracts of Bell and Claxton…both declining in production.
It ’s now being reported that GS wants to package these guys for Bosh….now THAT is unrealistic

Dude, relax. I never claimed to know more than anyone else. I never denigrated you. I just said that your trade scenario was unrealistic. I never attacked you personally. If you can’t have a discussion with someone who disagrees with you then this isn’t the place for you.
OBVIOUSLY, the Cavs brain trust disagrees with you as to the value of these two players since the were both virtual locks to make the team from the start.
Really? If these guys are so valuable, why are they averaging a combined 6.2 minutes per game. Jackson is averaging 1.4 points a game while Williams has yet to score this season. If that’s not the definition of a scrub then I don’t know what is. The fact that they made the team is meaningless — every NBA team has scrubs on the end of their bench who rarely play. If the Cavs valued them as highly as you assume then they would be playing more minutes.
Also, throwing in a second round pick (and a low second round pick, at that) does very little to sweeten the deal. Players picked at the end of the second round rarely become anything worthwhile.
It’s very common for fans to think their team can trade a few players they don’t want from the end of their bench for a player of value on another team, but real life doesn’t work that way. You have to look at the trade from the other team’s perpective. The Warriors would have no reason to trade a 20-year-old scoring 11 points a game for two replacement-level players and a low 2nd round pick. That does nothing to help their team. So please think a little bit yourself before you criticize my reply.

OK
I just presumed since I’d seen you do the “attack” thing on a few other posts, that it was the same thing here…And you don’t need to dumb it down for me…I do have a clue…
GS is conducting a fire sale, and when no one will take the deal they’re pushing they’ll listen to anything…I said LISTEN, not take…NO ONE will want two more or less washed up guards and a PF/C who GMs aren’t sure will ever realize his potential for a quality player or two…and they want to reduce salary…I doubt they’ll move him unless someone comes up with a desperate need for a big

You should bite the reality pill once in a while and realize the Warriors(which by the way have won it all three times as a franchise)
are NOT the NBA-DL team for Cavaliers to pick the most talented players out.
Anthony Randolph?
I think maybe we are getting a bit restless with our situation right now, but to consider a guy like Randolph just screams “desperation”.
I mean would’nt Randolph have to intrude on JJ’s minutes? another thing would be that the dude is not yet proven to do one thing consistently in order for us to say “thats what we need”…bad trade suggestion at this point..however i do agree with you on that we need some scoring coming from that block, but i’d rather give up Z and some of the small salaries and maybe even Delonte for a bigger name than Randolph that at the least has a proven aspect to their game.
I am very much frustrated with us not being able to land Stephen Jackson in a deal that GS was so obviously deperate to get done on any account just to have him out of there immediately. We should have jumped on that bigh time!
There are some other names out there that could help us out, i wish we had a true PG so that Bron did’nt have to be responsible for so much out there and we desperately need bench production and a bit more offesnive prescence down low and we should be fine…i see a gold mine with JJ but it will take some time.
"minds sharpens minds, like steel sharpens steel"
i agree with almos everything you said.
But I think the PG statement you had falls flat. I don’t believe even if we got John Stockton himself, that LeBron would give up some of his ball handling duties. He just loves to have the ball in his hands (sometimes too much obviously).
I still believe we need another scorer like Mo Williams who would play at the end of the 1st and 3rd quarters when LeBron goes to the bench. If another guy like Iverson (not him obviously) was available, that would be the guy I’d want.
Warriors fan dropping in
Hey everybody, I was just dropping in to check out ya’lls reaction to the laker fan madness from last night. God i hate the lakers… sorry digression. Anyways saw a post about randolph thought i’d drop in. So Randolph is a really promising young forward who, like everyone says, is freakishly athletic and what others don’t mention hella motivated. the guys gotten a really good work ethic recently and seems to be wanting to prove himself. usually this takes the form of skying high for rebounds, jumping on loose balls, contesting every shot with out getting to many fouls, he had 8 blocks the other night, or just attacking the rim relentlessly. The other side to him as a passionate player though is that he will get angry and put on his pouty face when coach tells him something he doesn’t wanna do. Other than that he’s got a decent midrange shot a is an okay perimeter defender.
On the money side and what GS would want in return, there are a bunch of obstacles to getting this deal done. For a little background that is in the Cavs favor, the Warriors owner, Chris Bitc as Cohan, was just voted one of the worst owners in the NBA because of his persistent need to have a team that sucks. So all of my next comments will be under the assumption that Cohan would be a NBA owner who cared about winning and not money. The warriors would want a player in return that would give some type of immediate impact, thinking Big Z’ish. that being said AR wouldn’t really be able to work for Big Z straight up so the warriors would need to package AR with either an expiring contract a la devan george, speedy claxton, OR some type of bigger move involving corey maggette. honestly this would be a bad move for the cavs but i’m just hoping. i hate maggs but for some reason people GM’s tend to like him and give him terrible extensions.
On to stephen Jackson. i wish you guys would have gotten that deal done. i feel like jackson does best in a supporting role when he doesn’t need to have a ton of touches. When we had our playoff run a couple of years ago jackson did well, mostly because baron davis was the main guy with jason richardson being number 2 and jax just drain tres off drive and dish. I feel like this could have worked well with the cavs having another proven shooter to make it off the lebron penetration, plus a back up guy to create on offense. Not to mention having a lineup of mo williams, Jax, Bron, Big Z and Shack would just be so large and redic to see on the court. in case ya’ll didn’t know jackson is 6-8. anyways keep up the good work beating down LA, idk what the verdict is on this summer but Im holding out for lebron to GS for Randolph straight up lol jk.
Nelly808 hit it right on the head
Randolph doesn’t have a big enough upside to justify disrupting the rotation
Nooooo
Z will retire as a Cav very soon. We owe him that. He just broke another record. Let him finish on a decent Cavs team.
Z could work out a buyout with the Warriors and then come back here for the minimum. Similar to what Ben Wallace did when he went back to the pistons after we traded him to the suns.

That was tried already with the Jackson discussions…GSW said no….Why would they change their minds for this?

This is a LOL
And Entertaining…
"Memphis then used a pick-and-roll to get Conley free and he drove past Shaquille O'Neal for the go-ahead layup."
