When does Delonte start?

Delonte has done very well the last two games and I feel he is better than Anthony Parker.....when does Brown make the switch?  He played consistently well last year, and so far looks to be back.  His off the court transgressions have passed and I feel would make the team better if he gets 30 minutes a game and is the starting SG.  LeBron was impressed with him and wants him back.  What does everyone else think?

two games

aren’t enough to tell…give it a week or two more…I see MB trying to ease him back into starting and have him fully integrated back into the lineup by the Christmas week West coast road trip…actually it really doesn’t matter who starts…as long as long as Delonte plays the way he’s capable of playing

He missed a lot of the preseason and hasn’t played much at all this year. No need to rush him into too many minutes too soon. He will start playing more minutes to get into game shape.

I also kind of like him off the bench. He can play some PG for the second unit.

This might

seem strange to some but you don’t always start your best 5 players. Delonte is a top 5 player on this team but he is much better served coming off the bench. Delonte can be the second teams go to guy and maximize his talents. Secondly putting him on the bench makes it easier to deal with him from a personnel point of view because you are not rotating starters every game thus avoiding killing the first units chemistry.

we need delonte off the bench. bench energy, scoring, defense is critical in the nba and andy and delonte coming off the bench are critical to our success. delonte can still play more minutes than parker.

5 minutes? Seriously?

How does this help him get back into the mix?

by Bellringer21 on Dec 5, 2009 6:37 AM CST reply actions

He wasn't

in it mentally according to Brown but lately I think Brown is just messing around with them team at his own peril.

I recommend quickly reading Brian Windhorst’s blog following the game where he explains West’s demeanor coming into the game and what was likely the reason he only played five minutes. Also insight into what is to be expected of West.

So what

if Delonte doesn’t want to wear the pink shoes. Mike Brown is the real head case. You don’t force players to wear pink shoes then brow beat him for it. Delonte has every right to be pissed off at Brown. FIRE MIKE BROWN NOW!

Delonte has emotional problems. This has nothing to do with Mike Brown.

I don’t even know what you are talking about. I’m going to go with what Bellringer21 complained about (playing time) and state that the article pretty much points out that West was in a terrible mood, was “lethargic and downtrodden” as the following quote points out

When he got in the game he was lethargic and downtrodden. Mike Brown pulled him after five minutes and his body language was poor.

…This is the point. Not the pink shoes, nor was it Brown that had anything….(lets just pause and take a minute to focus on this word here, “anything”) to do with the Pink shoes.

So EFIVE,,,,,,eh, whatever man

As I responded to you in the game thread, the announcers mentioned in the TV broadcast that Delonte wasn’t in a good mood before the game which is why he played so few minutes. We’re probably going to see some ups and downs from Delonte until he gets his emotional problems figured out. The Cavs are doing everything they can to help him.

Terry Pluto talks about it more in today’s PD:

Delonte West has put together several good weeks of practice, and the coaches were ready to commit more playing time to the guard — assuming he continues to handle his emotional problems well. But then West arrived at Friday’s game in an emotional funk. He played five listless minutes, and remained on the bench the rest of the game. That’s why it’s so hard to know what West will deliver this season. He is in a major battle, and the team continues to support him, showing a lot of patience.

It was great to see him play so well today and be a big contributor off the bench. Hopefully this will continue in the future as he gets his mental and emotional state in order.

He's getting closer

And it’s time to start subbing him and Gibson in at the same time…and let Delonte run the point

i still like like Delonte coming off the bench and playing both guard positions. we need that bench guy who create shots off the dribble. also, after watching the last couple games, i would like to see Danny Green get some of the 30 minutes that AP is getting every nite. Green is a similar player, but much younger with more athletism. AP does a lot of standing around on offense and looks slow against young athletic SGs. however, he will prob be fine guarding Ray Allen and Vince Carter… but what do you do with him against the Lakers?

by rockybrown on Dec 13, 2009 5:54 AM CST reply actions

I think Green will need to play in some “Garbage time” before MB will put him in a game when it counts…although I do agree that he needs to play and AP needs to rest more so he doesn’t get “lost” toward the end of games

Delonte is definitely better than Parker. You’ll find as the season progresses, Moon will be better as well. Both Moon and West play better defense, dribble, and rebound better.
If Parker doesn’t have his shot, he should be at the end of the bench!

Start West?

Nope, I’d rather they bring him off the bench to provide added energy and hustle to the bench squad….if i really did have my way? i’d trade him now that he has shown he can still play at a high level, lots of teams would love talent like his and i feel as if our CAVS are not using his skills to it’s full potential and never will.
Trade him now to address some of the issues and to patch up those holes that keeps this boat from sinking in the playoffs, but thats just my 2 cents.

Call me crazy

But I actually think this starting Delonte again is a bad idea. Somehow, I see him as the anchor of the bench compared to Mo, while LBJ takes his usual breather for the first five minutes of the second and fourth quarter. Delonte is much more skillful compared to AP, to an unreal extent. AP needs to be in the starting lineup because either Mo or Lebron can set him up; if you relegate him to the splinter squad, he can neither play the point or create his own shot, either with a dribble move or posting. We have more to lose than gain if we move Delonte to back to the starting 2. Keep in mind Powe must be incorporated in the lineup as well.

Nelly, if Ferry does do that, kiss the championship goodbye. Delonte is the glue guy for this team. There is no available 2-guard that can do what he does for the team right now.
