What's brewing on the trade front?
Just wanted to get the communities take on what might be brewing on the trade front for the Cavs?
I think we've seen the most pressing issue against the likes of Los Angeles and Boston is the front court.
There are two obvious options (one I'd really like to see done):
Marcus Camby - He's not getting any younger. He's 35 years old and his contract is only 2 years with $8 M next year and $7.5 the year after that.
He's a great rebounder and defender but he lacks a certain amount of versatilty of being able to step out and guard a guy like Al Harrington on the wing.
Which brings me to the more positive addition I can hope for:
Amare Stoudamire. The Suns are looking to deal Amare to the Eastern Conference to give themselves cap room and to get better. The Cavs have expiring contracts to offer, Daniel Gibson and JJ Hickson.
Amare costs more, for sure, than Camby. He's not going to be given away. He's also a bit of an 'attitude' guy which could upset the balance of the team. Actually, any trade is likely to upset the balance of the team.
This is the situation Ferry finds himself in. He has a team that is the best record in the Eastern Conference but is in dire need of a lowpost defender if they hope to win a 7 game series vs either Boston, LA or San Antonio this postseason. How does he address that without completely disrupting the great team he's already put together.

As much as I’d love Amare, if he costs Wally, Gibson and Hickson there is no way I do that trade. Because I bet Kerr also asks for a draft pick or two and that would be too much to give up.
If Kerr would take Pavlovic and Hickson, maybe, but I don’t think Gibson is going anywhere because Ferry doesnt want to tick off LeBron because Gibson is his buddy.

I personally wouldn’t be opposed to going after Camby and wouldn’t be broken hearted either way. However, if we were to get bumped out of the playoffs single-handedly by Al Harrington, then I would take offense.
Camby fits more into the Cavs style (being a good, big defender), whereas Stoudamire doesn’t. I don’t think we have seen anything in his career that has proven he can buy into a defensive centric team. He is lazy on coverage and frequently is a no show on the defensive end. That would not work in Mike Brown’s system. He offers you another low post scorer, but the same reason he is having a rift in Phoenix would eventually happen in Cleveland, because he wants to be the go to guy. Suffice to say, that’ll never happen.

I agree, I don’t think Stoudamire would fit in very well in Cleveland. He’s not a good defender and he’d be complaining about not gettting enough touches. And Phoenix would want way too much back in a trade. The Cavs have great depth right now, and I don’t want to give that up to get one player who may not really fit in that well. I’d be wary of trading Hickson for anyone, unless we know that player will make a big impact, because I think he has a good future and the Cavs need young big men because Ben and Z are getting old.

Agreed. I do not want to get rid of Hickson. The kid has tremendous upside in mine eyes. We do need some young good talent on the roster.

JJ has tremedous upside? kind of like an upside of… AMARE.

See where I’m going with this.

I wouldn’t count on the Cavs getting Stoud’. Or PHO trading him.

How about young, CHEAP talent with upside?
Anyways, the Cavs aren’t getting Amare so we can stop discussing it.

There’s an article at theclevelandfan.com (a great Cleveland/OSU sports blog, by the way) about possible targets for the Cavs before the trading deadline. The author thinks the Cavs have the best chance of getting Joe Smith. I would definately like that move; I think he played well while he was here last year as a backup and he knows the team and the system. He’s a solid big man coming off the bench. The problem is they cannot trade for him since they traded him after July 1, so OKC would have to buy out his contract and make him a free agent. That means he could sign with any team and there will probably be many teams interested (especially the Lakers after the Bynum injury). If the Cavs make a trade, he sees Marcus Camby as the most likely target for them.

that would be a nice addition too
joe smith does everything properly. guys like that never got a lot of credit, but they really add a lot to your team. especially when you need some stop gap minutes. camby is a better player though.
i wouldn’t surprised to see the lakers make a play for camby, but a la/la trade seems unlikely.

I’ll pass on Stoud’, due to cost, and what he might do to team chemistry.
Z and Andy did look kinda slow on defense against NYK, so a quick big would be good.

What about the Orlando Magic, if the cav’s are going to beat the magic in a seven game series they’re gonna have to stop Howard. They won’t even get a chance to play LA or San Antonio if they can’t get past Orlando or Boston.
