REPORT -- Joe Smith reaches buyout with Thunder, Looks to join Cavaliers

Brian Windhorst is reporting that Joe Smith is about to become a free agent, just in the nick of time --

According to a league source, the Oklahoma City Thunder and forward Joe Smith reached a buyout agreement tonight. He will be waived by the midnight deadline and start in the waiver system Monday and should clear waivers by Wednesday morning.

Smith and the Cavs have been in talks and they are his first choice. If all goes according to plan, indications are Smith will sign with the team once he becomes a free agent and could be in uniform for Wednesday's game against the Bucks at The Q.

This is big news for the Cavs as they deal with injuries on their front line.  While Ben Wallace is out, Smith will provide depth and a mcuh needed scoring punch.  When ben returns, his offensive ability will be a welcome sight off the bench.

Let's hope this deal gets done.

Nice pickup. Will be a fun spring.

Joe is

A very nice addition to this team. Mikki Moore is a bum and Joe will light him up. Starbury is going to be schooled by D. West and Boobie. I hate the Celts, Go Cavs.

I am a

Pats and Red Sox fan if that makes you feel any better. The Celtics are nothing more or less then the Yankees of basketball. Arrogant jerks with a chip on their shoulders.

Haha, that’s funny. I love it when Red Sox fans complain about the Yankees. That’s like Lindsey Lohan saying that Paris Hilton parties too much.

Yeah....Classy response.

Look no further than the posts on the Celtic’s SN Blog for classy responses! We don’t need your condesending BS here Green17

I don’t think Green17 was being condescending at all. He said it will be a good spring, meaning the battle between the Cavs and the Celtics, and I agree with him. E5 was the one being a jerk.

I expect when I go to other sites that fans will say whatever about whoever. For someone from the Celtics to comment on a Cavs site as to what comments are classy and, by implication, which are not, without any other comment at all, bugs me. I think its BS. I said as much.

This comment is probably why you look like a fool E5. All those months when you posted on LGT, you claimed to be a Tribe fan. But your true colors are now on display. Classy indeed.

The nice thing about Smith

is that Joe Smith can finish games. Ben Wallace can’t do that for this team because he is worthless offensively but Smith gives you a big body that can help you late.

So its sounding like Gooden is the other player available.

Well its appears like a done deal but he still has to clear waivers. My fear would be that a foe, sic. Boston, might try and scuttle this.

The link above to the Windhorst article in the PD also mentions the Gooden buyout. He says he was surprised that the Kings did that, but he still think Joe Smith is the Cavs’ first target.

I really like this signing (if it happens). Joe Smith was a nice role player on the Cavs last year and I was sad to see him leave. Having him back will greatly help our bench in the playoffs.

And Ferry looks good after all this; he was able to find a backup big man and didn’t have to give up Wally’s expiring contract and take on a big salary. Of course, Joe Smith is no Camby or Shaq, but he’ll give the Cavs the help they need.

Agreed.........Nice Pick-up!

Hated to see him go although, for Mo, it was worth it! Now that we have him back he could play a large role in the push for the #1 seed in the East and our qwest for the Championship!
