Points in the Paint
Something that I think would be worth tracking over the last 20 games of the year is points in the paint, both scored and allowed. That seems to be a pretty good indicator of the effort that the Cavs put out on a nightly basis, and I'd imagine a pretty good predictor of W's and L's.
Ever since the Lakers game in LA, the Cavs have really wilted when they've been attacked in the paint, and similarly shied away from driving the ball to the lane on the offensive end. Yao torched us in Houston, the Lakers got over on us in the paint in Cleveland, Leon Powe and friends dumptrucked us in the lane in Boston...I'd even go so far as to say that the Clips gave us the business in the paint.
The painted area is and will continue to be the key for the Cavs. If you've got time, Cavsblogger, I'd be psyched to see that data.

Very punny!
Would be awesome if that info could be a sidebar on the front page, but I don’t know how hard that kind of thing is to do.

Not hard....
Just hard to find the information for individual games….Especially looking backwards.

i think its a given that
the cavs dont get many points in the paint.
Much like Hawks and the undersized Horford, we just dont have a dominant Centre.
while Ilgauskas is good, theres not much backup in the position and even he could do with some weight adding.
go hard or go home

I love the guy, but he’s slow enough as is. No need for him to gain weight.

Last Night....
The Cavs did get the win, but the PiP was a joke. Cavs were outscored 64-20.

windhorst made the point in his piece today that the cavs got a chance at the end of regulation and in OT to rediscover their offense in the paint. interestingly, our defense of the painted area picked up with our offensive assault on the lane, too.
getting Z and LeBron the ball in and around the key, early in the shot clock, with a chance to find cutters (Z is an excellent passer), open shooters or create their own offense is something we did really well early in the season. our jumpers are going to stop falling at some point, so we need to be able to go to this kind of O.
i expect the points in the paint to continue to subside as brown gets on the team, and with the return of ben wallace.
