Fear The Links - Friday 5/22

Fear The Links brings you the best Cavs news every day.  If you find any good Cavs stories online send them to me at buckeyebrad79@yahoo.com and I'll add them to the links.  Hope you enjoy!

Cleveland Plain Dealer

  • Brian Windhorst writes that Mo Williams blames himself for the loss in Game 1
  • Terry Pluto talks to himself about what the Cavs need to do differently in Game 2.
  • In the Cavs Insider, LeBron James suggests what John Hollinger and other said after losing Game 1: play Sasha Pavlovic more.  He can defend Turkoglu and allow LeBron to take Lewis, which will give the Cavs more height and quickness needed to guard those players.
  • Wally Szczerbiak blogs about the loss in his playoff diary.

Akron Beacon-Journal

  • Patrick McManamon says the Cavs need to step up the defense to win Game 2 and looks at what adjustments might need to be made in order to make that happen.
  • George Thomas writes that the Cavs are in a must-win position for Game 2.  I don't usually like calling a game a "must-win" unless it's a Game 7, but I agree in this case.  The Cavs cannot go to Orlando down 0-2.

Star-divide

Around the Internet

  • Kelly Dwyer at Yahoo! Sports analyzes Game 1 and looks forward to more great games in this series.  He says he's sticking by his prediction of the Magic winning in six but he also wouldn't be surprised if the Cavs rolled off four straight wins.  Also from Yahoo!, Adrian Wojnarowski writes about the Cavs' taking their first hit in the playofs.
  • Erik Cassano at TheClevelandFan.com looks at the lessons learned from Game 1.
  • The Bleacher Report says the possibility of a Nuggets-Magic Finals is looking more plausable and wonders if the Magic beating the Cavs would really be an upset.  They also have a really good analysis of Game 1.
  • For the Orlando Sentinel, Brian Schmitz writes that Rashard Lewis is rising to the occasion for the Magic in the playoffs and Kyle Hightower says the pressure is now on the Cavs.
  • John Krolik at Cavs: The Blog recaps Game 1 and says if the Cavs had won we might be talking about the greatest game of LeBron's young career.
  • Lisa Dillman of the LA Times says the Magic still have much to prove.
  • OrlandoMagicDaily.com looks at the success the Magic had attacking Varejao and Ilgauskas.  That certainly is troubling and something which needs to be adjusted for Game 2.
  • Amar Panchmatia at Cavalier Attitude also discusses giving Sasha Pavlovic more playing time (and hopes we will get the 2007 version of Sasha).
  • ESPN.com has an article from Scouts, Inc. looking at the adjustments that both teams need to make coming in to Game 2 and also a great article from Cleveland native Chris Broussard saying the Cavs aren't worried yet but they need to win this game.

It’s going to tough to focus with this game on tap for tonight.

Let’s hope the crowd gets LOUD when the Magic have the ball.

Thanks, I’m glad people appreciate this. It does take quite a bit of time, and I try to find some links that people wouldn’t normally read, so it’s good to know other people are reading the articles.

Yeah dude, I appreciate this even more now having done it once. It took a lot longer than I thought it would, and I don’t think I got nearly as many good stories as you.

The way I see it, all the pressure’s off. Everyone was waiting for us to lose for the first time, and we finally did. Now, we come out a just do our thing. I felt like we lost game 7 the other night, but we didn’t, and now we go to work.

i was glad to see one of the “lessons learned” at theclevelandfan was to let d. howard “get his”. while it seems sort of crazy, i was yelling at the tv the whole time that singling him was the way to go. i’m SHOCKED that w/ a 15 point halftime lead the cavs coaches changed that defensive strategy up.

Chris Broussard also has a good piece up at ESPN talking about the Cavs’ attitude towards game 2. Good read, as Chris comes at it like a Cleveland fan.

Ha, I just read that and came here to add it to the links. I really like reading his stuff, as you said he knows how Cleveland fans feel after a game like this.

I like him a lot. I’ve considered writing to him about how he got started and such.

So One Game and We're Done

Before Wednesday’s game, the media and blogosphere was ready to anoint us as the Eastern Champs and that the Magic were a mere formality en route to the Lakers in the Finals, all the while saying that this series won’t be a sweep or as easy as the last 2 series.

We drop a one-point game to Orlando after a nine day rest, in which we obviously showed signs of rust being that we got tired down the stretch, and now all of a sudden this series is over? Amazing.

Seriously, we’re the better team, and our role players and our bench won’t be that awful for the rest of the way. We came out and played like the team we are, we just couldn’t keep the tempo up and get into the rhythm over a full game. Basketball is a game of ebb and flow, and we just haven’t got into it as fast due to a lot of time off. The Magic are in their groove, and once we hit ours I’m sure we’ll be fine. I hope.
