Cleveland Cavaliers at Orlando Magic, May 26, 2009 7:30 PM CDT

Magic Coverage -- Third Quarter Collapse
Probable starters:
Rafer Alston
PG
Mo Williams
Courtney Lee
SG
Delonte West
Hedo Turkoglu
SF
LeBron James
Rashard Lewis
PF
Anderson Varejao
Dwight Howard
C
Zydrunas Ilgauskas
The Cavs have been beaten, bloodied and, at times, physically dominated by the Orlando Magic during the Eastern Conference Finals, but they still have everything in front of them. Win tonight, and it becomes a best 2-out-of-3, with 2 of the games at The Q. It all starts with a win tonight, of course.
Mo Williams has essentially guaranteed victory tonight and while I respect his confidence, he is a main reason the Cavaliers find themselves in this situation. Perhaps noone knows this better than Mo himself, which is why he might be the one doing the talking.
Will the self motivation work? Will the Cavs bounce back once again or will they see their season pushed to the brink?

Well, the first NBA game I ever went for was in Memphis against the Cavs. I went there, with all intentions of cheering on the Grizzlies of my home state, but seeing what a hopeless team they were, I started being drawn into cheering for the Cavs. Obviously, Lebron payed a major dividend in that, but Varejao and Ilgauskas quickly became two of my favorites. I’m not a die hard fan that watches every game, but during the second half of the season, I really get into it. This better be our year.

It is neither fatalistic nor predictive to say what I’m about to say. It just is.
Sports fandom is not rational. It is not the most productive use of our time. It is not logical.
What it is, however, is uncontrollable.
I don’t choose with whom I fall in love. I don’t choose my every emotion. Sometimes they just happen.
But being a sports fan from Cleveland is rather different. It is about embracing the idea that the journey means more than the destination, because we have never arrived at that destination. It is about loving unconditionally, even when we should be pressing charges.
I choose to believe that all of that Curse mess will end. Maybe soon, maybe not for years, but it will end. It will end because it never existed to begin with.
Until it does, I will enjoy the chase. I will never forget moments like the one at the end of game two. I will never disrespect fans of opposing teams unnecessarily, and I will never piss on the sunshine of the eternal optimists in my midst. I will simply enjoy the inevitably of the passion taking hold and consuming me.
Let’s. Go. Cavs.

Just promise me that in the unlikely event that we don’t win, you’ll keep some perspective.
Also! Tonight is not must-win. Sure feels like it, but we are NOT losing at home again. Game six would be must-win.
Perspective is a difficult thing to gain, but I’m working on it. I’m like a young Jedi… the passion gets to be too much sometimes. But writing provides a nice helping of catharsis. I’m coming along.

Back on the topic of jerseys… sorry…
What is the Magic’s official secondary color? Black? Silver? Either way, weak.
I'm *always* in the driver's seat, cugino -- Chuck
I would actually like black as a secondary color. Not to be contrarian.
I become an expert simply by doing something.
I dunno, I kinda feel like everyone’s working with black and white as given tertiary or “accent” colors.
