What's Next?? Lebron James admits to marijuana use in high school

The LeBron James bad P.R. tour continues to roll along this summer with this latest tidbit.  According to a new book, "Shooting Stars", written by James, along with Buzz Bissinger, James admits to feeling the pressure of being a 17-year phenom after being featured on the cover of SI.

James discusses how he and his ASVSM teammates smoked the marijuana in an Akron hotel room during their Junior year.

LeBron went on to discuss how all the attention affected him and his team -

"We had become big-headed jerks, me in particular," James said, "and we are to blame for that, but so are adults who treated us that way and then sat back and smugly watched the self-destruction."

Of course, this another NON-NEWS STORY that will be blown out of proportion by media types that seemingly forgot any and every youthful transgression during their high school years.

I AM DONE ROOTING FOR LEBRON

First the handshakes, then dunk gate … now this!!! This was the last straw. I can’t believe he would do such a thing … and at such a young age. Horrible.

I guess the whole “marijuana causes you to be a lazy nobody who lives in your parent’s basement” thing has been pretty much been shown to be a hoax. First Olympic hero Michael Phelps and now LeBron have admitted to smoking dope.

by Cols714 on Jul 23, 2009 12:35 PM CDT reply actions

That is not true

most pot smokers do live in their parents basement. Pot is the universal I am a loser drug. That said one or a few times uses in ones life is not big deal. I say legalize it that way this country can really go to pot.

Big freakin deal.

It’s looked at as “normal” because a lot of people do it, even if it bothers you.

most?

you’d be surprised how many responsible adults with good jobs still to this day smoke pot, albeit recreational, ie once a week/day, and not before work or their other responsibilities are taken care of.

Doubtful

most people that smoke that much are not very productive and get fired eventually. Those are the same people that cheat on their spouses and end up with 3 kids and no spouse.

i work in the post production industry and i would say about half of my friends smoke pot regularly. and these are people who are creating commercials, movies and tv shows … most likely one of the productive jobs out there. im also a product of ohio and understand where many of you may be coming from … california is totally different in regards to pot smoking. in ohio i would say most of my friends who smoked were lazy and unemployed. but i disagree with the opinion that ALL pot smokers are lazy and basic garbage of society. Weed definitely gets a bad rap and i think eventually it will lose that image when it becomes legal. only time will tell.

“Oh, what has LeBron done now?!? Stay tuned at the top of the hour.”
55 minutes later…
“LeBron admits to smoking marijuana! And just a day after the dunk video, is LeBron’s off-court life spinning out of control?”

Then make it a 5 minute talking point for Jim Rome, Around the Horn, and PTI.

Run! Scream!!!! Oh no! A professional athlete smoked pot and OMG you will never believe this one, HE LIVED!!!! Not only did he live, but he is the best basketball player in the league (Kobe who?). People need to get over this smoking pot thing. Do you all really think it is terrible to smoke pot, when athletes are drinking and driving? People drink every day and do really stupid things. Pot obviously makes you relaxed, but it certainly did not “relax” Phelps or Lebron who are arguably at the top of the sport. Get over it people. You call yourselves Cavs fans? I truly hope some of the post here are sarcasm, because it makes me sad that people are so shallow minded. There are much worse things, like beating your wife, rape, and betting on which dog will destroy the other one.

Come on, he was a high school student. This dosen’t make him a bad person it was in High school what 7 years ago! I’m sure all of us in north eastern Ohio have come in contact with weed once. Look at all the work work he gives back to the community. He is no lazy man or does he potray the image of the drugie.

Admittedly

This hurts his “role model” image because so many kids idolize this guy. But he obviously regrets it, otherwise he wouldn’t admit to using it. This’ll blow over in about 3 days.

No one should ever idolize NBA Players. Period

If you idolize sports stars your parents are not very good role models.

Many kids idolize athletes when they are young. That doesn’t mean their parents aren’t good role models. Kids may look up to their parents, but they’re going to idolize the people they see on TV and in the movies because their lives seem much more fun and exciting than their parents’.

Lack of morals

is going to bring this nation down. Idolizing players is a direct result of poor parenting which leads to poor morals and ethics decay.

No. You have no idea what you’re talking about. There is a lot of poor parenting in this country but it has nothing to do with kids idolizing athletes. That’s been happening for over a hundred years and it hasn’t brought this nation down yet.
