Jamario moon officially a Cavalier as Heat decline to match offer
Per a Tweet from Bob Finnan, the Miami Heat have notified the Cavaliers that they will not match the Cavs' 3-year offer to Jamario Moon making Moon a member of the Cavaliers.
The deal is reportedly worth $8.92 million over 3 years, with the first two years of the contract guaranteed. It was the 2nd season, 2010, that made the Heat leery of matching since it would take away some financial flexibility in an already draining free agent market next summer.
Moon look to be a perfect fit as a rotation player for the Cavs, with the ability to defend the 3-point line and hit the open jumper.
More on this to come.

This is a great addition to our already solid depth. We have probably one of, in not the best benches in the NBA.
2009 Prediction: Att - Yds - TD
Jerome Harrison 95 - 532 - 8
I know nothing about him. Can anyone say whether this is a good move, bad move, inconsequential move?
long, lean body. very good athlete. pretty good defender. Can hit the open J. Broke in the league from the NBDL as a 26 year old rookie. He also played in the CBA and some other low level leagues, I think. His rookie year, he looked like he could be a star with his ability to block shots and be a big athletic guy who could shoot a little. And he is a very good FT shooter.
For the Cavs, I think he’ll play a little more 4, allowing James to stay at the 3. Whereas when Parker is playing, James will probably have to move down to the 4- and we sacrifice some rebounding.
My take- This is a very good move. Where Parker takes the Wally/Sasha minutes and allows West some more rest, Moon will backup James at the 3 and then compete with Hickson and Jackson at the 4. He will probably get a lot of significant PT when the opposition has a Rashad Lewis/Hedo Turkoglu/Lamar Odom type of “spread the floor 4”. More than anything else the Cavs did this offseason, in my opinion, this move was a response to the Orlando series and the Cavs most glaring weakness.
well, acquiring shaquille o’neal as a big body in the post might qualify as a slightly bigger response to the orlando series than a bench wing guy…

Totally wrong
Shaq was in response to the Lakers big front line. It just so happens he would also help defend Dwight “Superman” Howard. Shaq was going to be a Cavs player last year but the Suns thought they could make the playoffs and decided to keep him, otherwise he was heading to Cleveland.

You do realize that to play the Lakers the Cavs will have to get through the Magic first, right? We couldn’t do that this past year, so I don’t know how you can claim that Shaq wasn’t a response to the loss to Orlando.
Do you really believe the crazy stuff you post or are you just being contrarian to start arguments with people?

Apparently you can't see the
Forest though the trees. You are not looking at it the way the Cavs are. Shaq was going to be a Cavs player last year, the Suns canceled the trade not Cleveland. At that time Orlando was not considered to be the team to beat. The Lakers front line was considered a major problem for the Cavs.
The Cavs can effectively double Howard with taller wing players but they didn’t have that, this is why players like Parker and Moon become important to the team. You can’t play straight up defense on Howard all the time and you can’t double all the time either. If you double all the time he will pass out of the double time or simply draw fouls. If you play him solo even with Shaq he will score his point and pass out to the cutters who then can pass out to the shooters if need be. Shaq does help with Howard because you can mix up the defense more often but the real improvement comes from the wing players because they can effectively double and then still have the length to really challenge the shooters and fast enough to prevent the drives. Shaq will not play enough minutes to effectively stop Howard on a consistent basis this is also why the wing players are important. As mentioned above Howard will have a harder time passing out of the doubles with 6’8" players coming at him rather then 6’4" players.
Shaq helps much more with the Lakers because he will effectively clog the lane on defense with so many 7’0" out there. He will also be a very good rebounder in a situation where you have bigs of that size because he is wider and often times much stronger then those bigs. Shaq also knows Kobe’s game well enough to help with the interior defense and the Lakers are not a pick and roll team so he will not be exposed as much against the Lakers. With the Magic Shaq will be effective but when he is put in the pick and roll he will be a determent not a help. Wing with length can play well in the pick and roll game and give the Cavs better defense in pick and roll.

while your insider’s look into the way the cavaliers think is very much appreciated, it’s been widely reported that the inclusion of wally instead of wallace was a sticking point for the cavs in the aborted shaq-to-cavs trade. so, you know, sorry to introduce relevant points that knock your certitude off line a bit.
look, it’s not been a secret to anyone, anywhere that the cavs had trouble guarding the elite players in the post (although, overall, the cavs guarded the 4 and 5 positions quite well), nor was it a secret that the cavs’ backcourt was comprised almost entirely of munchkins. so, to say any particular move was a direct response to one particular player/series/team is overstating.
however, getting shaq became an imperative as a result of the orlando series, in my opinion. the lakers present(ed) a similar issue in the post, but not the same deadly/streaky perimeter shooting as the magic. the longer wings may help on the pick and roll, but what sunk the cavs more than anything against the magic was the complete inability to stop howard, the resultant double teams, and the open shooters created thereby. shaq gives the cavs the best possible chance to single team howard and disrupt the formula that ended their season.
so, if by “totally wrong”, you meant “mostly right, but here’s another reason why getting shaq helps”, then i’m with you…i was “totally wrong”

If you think
that Shaq was the answer for Howard solely then you don’t know basketball. Howard simply can not be guarded one on one by any player in the league period. Size in the form of wing players is the real answer to making players like Howard one dimensional and limited their impact on the game.

hello
im new here. id like to point out that the reason the magic celtics lasted for 7 games is because of perkins. he could effectively take howard one on one and thus removing the need to double and limiting orlandos offense to high screen and rolls
hes an underachiever, hes always been a solid bench player on a team with a superstar, but if they put andy at 5, lebron at 4, moon, at 3, west and mo at 1 & 2, theyll be able to run run run, and both moon and lebron can sky!
its a nice move for the cavs to beef up the bench and get another tall perimeter defender!
I think you are thinking of someone else. I mean, you must be mistaken.
hes an underachiever, hes always been a solid bench player on a team with a superstar
The dude went to a community college, went undrafted and bounced around about a dozen NBDL and independent teams before showing some great moments in 2 seasons as a NBA starter.

Uderachiever
except about the first two months of his career hes only averaged around 8pts and 5 rebounds, hes shown flashes of brilliance and everyone knows hes one of the high-flyers of the NBA, but he had Bosh and wade taking shots away from him, and now hell have lebron he is a very unselfish player and will pass up many shots to give others oppurtunity.
Dont get me wrong hes a great pick up, but there is a lot of undeveloped talent that would be incredible if he could tap into that!
So how does that make him an underachiever? Because he’s played with better players who take shots away from him — how is that his fault? An underachiever is someone who has a lot of natural talent but doesn’t work hard to maximize it. As DD said, Moon went to a community college, was undrafted and played in a bunch of leagues before getting a shot in the NBA. He’s a guy who has worked his butt off to get where he is and has had nothing handed to him. If he had a lot of natural talent then he’d have gone to a big-time college and been drafted. An underachiever is a guy like Darius Miles who wastes his immense talent. I don’t know how you can call Moon an underachiever.

He is a solid pick up
Not a game breaker but definately a good 3rd or 4th option for lebron because he is long and fast.
Thats me chilling with Nick Anderson

that he was a Harlem Globetrotter? I know it doesn’t impact his game or whether or not this was a solid move, but still. A Globetrotter.

Absolutly LOVE this signing
Maybe the best signing that goes unnoticed by the national media but will make this team better in ways that you can’t mathatize.

Moon is a great secret
This is one of the most atletic players in the NBA. He was never polished through college or at a younger age. He is more of a street player type. Your about to see some crazy dunks, and I don’t mean by lebron. With how long his arms and legs are, he can cover 4 positions on D. I hope the cavs coaches can help develope into a more consistant player. way better pick-up than parker.
Thanks
totally agree.
Some people only see things one way.
