Without Lebron?
Say Lebron goes to New Jersey or New York. Say he accepts one of their lucrative offers and leaves us poor cav fans to sink into mediocraty. Would we do so? Without Lebron, do the Cavs have a playoff worthy team. I dont think they do.
During the Magic series the other Cavs, with the exception of varajao and to a small extent mo, proved inadiquate. The whole team played well in the Pistons and Hawk series, but those teams lost because of their inability to stop Lebron's one man show. I dont think a 38 year old shaq could fill the massive loss of oncourt presense that lebron brought. Thats not saying shaq couldn't provide leadership, put he would not be able to provide the explosiveness that lebron did.

lebron leaves
and then there will be no one of superstar status on the team, shaq’s legacy is of superstar status, but he is playing far from his glory days, and it would be so unfair to him to expect him to play like he did in his prime.
simple, lebron leaves and they do not even make the playoffs.

If Lebron leaves
Cleveland will sink into lake Erie that is a fact.
Lets face it the town would be awful.
The Browns should leave town and do us all a favor.
The Indians are the running joke in MLB and have no chance at winning any time soon.
The Cavs would be beyond bad.
Terry Pluto would actual move to Pluto and report on the stars because their will not be any in Cleveland.
Fox news would not exist because the dawg pound would take it over and throw dog bones at Art Modell.
The movie Major League would see like a blessing in a winless town.
Danny Ferry would just leave town and win a title with the Spurs again.
Michael Jordan would buy the Cavs draft another Kwame Brown then hire Larry Brown who would trade the whole team for a bag of magic beans.
The Indians would win the first ten games of the year then the bullpen at Progressive park would literally explode and then the Indians would loss 152 in a row.
The Browns would have the first 5 picks in the draft and the proceed to draft college overachievers who would would promptly get hurt and kill the cap.
Kellen Winslow would be the NFL MVP and win a super bowl with the TB Bucs.
Braylon Edwards would be traded for Plaxico Burress and win the comeback player of the year award while Plax would be sent to jail for life after he shots his self again this time at the Galleria and injures ten Buckeyes fans.
The Pirates would win the NL title and thank the Indians for trading them Grady Sizemore for a big bag of Steelers gear.
All the Cleveland bridges would collapse and the river would catch on fire again but this time from all the fans throwing their Cleveland professional sports team gear into it.
Shaq would rap about how Kobe is a better teammate the Lechoke.
Lebron would wear a Yankees hat to an Indians game and fans would embrace him for it.
Cleveland would be renamed Loserville.
ESPN would have the running joke
“What is the worst sports town in America” the answer is Loserville
Soccer would be the number one sport in America
Obama would actually be a good president
Akron would be declared a super fund site
The Bengals would be good.

You know absolutely nothing about baseball. Please stop talking about the Indians; we don’t want to hear from any former fans who left the team because they were kicked off a blog.

mistake. the tribe is the laughing stock of the AL. The Nationals are the laughing stock of MLB
Thank you Mesa for blowing the one chance Cleveland had for happiness during the 90's.

I blame
Charles Nagy more then I Blame Joe Table. Charles Nagy was never a winner and would fit perfectly in with the current collection of junk arms.

Nice try, but the Indians aren’t even close to being the worst team in the AL. Their run differential is almost one hundred runs better than the Royals, and also better than the Orioles, Mariners, and A’s. They’re bad, but not even close to the bottom of the league

Oh yeah i completely forgot that we actually moved out of last. Thank you for correcting that

Well then you’re obviously not much of a fan, right?

well that all depends on what you consider a fan now doesn’t it

If you don’t know that your team hasn’t been in last place for a few weeks then I don’t consider you much of a fan. Not to mention the fact that you called the Indians the “laughingstock of the AL” when that distinction clearly belongs to the Royals.

C’mon now, this is an obvious one. There is no way in hell we’d be in the playoffs without LeBron. The team is built around him. If he left, it would be like removing the foundation from a house, or the chassis of a car, topple like a house of cards.
We’d literally start to rebuild from square one.
And for the record, if we lose LeBron, you can bet Shaq is as good as gone also.

Not even in the East? I mean, the East…

You do present a good point. But seriously, I’d see our current roster without LeBron winning between 15 and 25 games, tops. That would give us decent odds in the 2011 draft lottery, but not put us in the playoffs.
I do think if we made some drastic moves quickly, it’s not impossible to make the playoffs in the East (though, the competition is subject to change as well), I thinks unlikely to see it right away.
Personally, I find a little depressing to even consider. Let’s just hope this is all avoided, and LeBron makes the right decision.

Thats a 40-50 game swing. I feel very confident saying that no metric ever has considered any player, ever, to be worth that much. I mean, just think about what you’re saying, you can turn one of the worst teams of all time into one that probably gets home court in the first round, or you turn a .500 team into the best of all-time. Wages of Wins and Basketball Prospectus have Lebron worth about 27 wins to last year’s team. I’d say this team minus Lebron wins 45-50 games, considering his 40 minutes wouldn’t go to replacement-level players.

Boston went +42 in one year, yeah it was 2 players, I suppose. But I honestly don’t see -42 out of the range of possibility, without LeBron.
And for the record, I’d rather have LeBron than both KG and Ray Allen.

If it was KG and Ray in their primes I would rather have them than LeBron. As of now though you would have to be crazy to not take LeBron.

It was 69 games of Al Jefferson and 47 of Paul Pierce to 71 of Garnett, 80 of Pierce, and 73 of Allen. And some strides from lesser players like Rondo, Perkins, and Powe, and add Posey and House. 42 wins more than a team that had Ryan Gomes second in total minutes.

Even with Shaq?
Shaq, Mo, Delonte, Andy, and Moon could win more than 25 games. That sounds like a great recipe for the 8th seed in the East to me.

Lind has 21 home runs with his 33 doubles, he had 54 extra-base hits, the most of any player in the AL and second to St. Louis’ Albert Pujols’ 56.

no this team is still pretty good without lebron.
like the other guy said, shaq with mo and west are pretty good unto themselves. add in there big Z, andy, and (had they kept wallace and joe) they could still be a decent team.
remember it was a lebron-less team that (in short spurts) kept the pistons at bay. of course they had to call lebron back when the pistons bench was moving forward but the cavs bench walked all over the pistons starting 5.
an offense that had the speed of mo and west with a “pound-it-inside” tactic for shaq and a “in-out” game for Z’s jumpshooting will still be pretty good.

thank you for that one-worded rebuttal. i admire the comprehensive but succint points you covered.

I am guessing his point is basically that your statement is so outrageous and obviously false that a one word response was appropriate—in fact, you seem to even argue against yourself.
Also, judging by your comments in the other thread, you haven’t really listened to the rebuttals that notJoey has put out there, mainly ones that have to do with facts and logic, so why should he bother?
I’ll try anyway: if you take LeBron off of the USA Olympic team, they are still “pretty good”.
like the other guy said, shaq with mo and west are pretty good unto themselves. add in there big Z, andy, and (had they kept wallace and joe) they could still be a decent team.
So any team without LeBron has zero chance at being “pretty good” but a very realistic Cavs-minus-LeBron has a very good chance of being “decent”? Thanks for that.

mike brown would actually have to learn to call plays and utilize passing and strong defense if lebron quits.
instead of the always vaunted (and effective) isolation plays they always call for lebron, they would actually have a center than can pound it in low and dish outside for jumpshots while allowing for some fast penetration and slashing. its going to look like san antonio’s offense.

Well, hopefully we win a title this year and LeBron happily re signs, making all of this moot and feeding a huge **** sandwich to ESPN and company.
Otherwise, life without LeBron will become a reality. With the blatant tampering from the media and (what I suspect, although I have no proof) backdoor maneuvering by David Stern, Nike, etc.. afoot, only a title is going to keep LeBron here and that might not even be enough.
by mgtbfb on Aug 7, 2009 12:51 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Hasn’t Stern said publicly that he likes players to stay with the teams that drafted them and that that sort of thing is good for the NBA?
