Leon Powe to the Cavs
According to Yahoo Sports, it appears that former Celtics forward Leon Powe will now become the latest addition to the Cleveland Cavaliers. It is being reported that Powe will sign a two year deal for the league minimum. The second year will be a team option.
Having tore his ACL during the 1st round of the Celtics playoff matchup Chicago, it appears that Powe will not be ready to return until next year's all-star break. Powe is known for his energetic play. His most notable career acheivement was the 21 pts he scored in game 2 of the 2008 NBA finals against the Los Angeles Lakers in just 15 mins of play. Once a fan favorite in Boston, it appears likely that Powe will be bringing his energy and hustle to Cleveland pending the results of a physical with the Cavalier's medical staff.
The addition of Powe will most assuredly add to the depth of the Cleveland Cavaliers who have had a very busy summer, adding Anthony Parker, Jamario Moon, and future Hall of Famer, Shaquille O'Neal. Whether the addition of Powe will be enough to help get the Cavs through the much improved Eastern Conference remains to be seen, but one can safely say that Powe will be bringing the same heart and hustle to Cleveland.

Wow! Quite a surprise. I like adding a young, energetic PF who can score more easily than Andy.

Having followed Powe since Cal
He’s torn his ACL 3 times. If you’re looking for an energetic, young PF this year, he won’t be it. He’ll hold his own in the post but judging by how he came back the first year after tearing his ACL in college, he’s going to struggle to get off the floor. Where you’ll see a return on this investment is the next year. Regardless of his recovery, he’s a guy that will play hard and give max effort whenever he’s on the floor. A lot of people don’t remember this, but LeBron and Powe were ranked 1-2 (before he tore his ACL in high school) in that high school class, so it’s interesting to see this come full circle.
I’m not a Cavs fan, but I wish him all the best. He’s a great guy that’s met hard luck at every turn. Hopefully this move works out for him.
Man… ALOT of attention on this board from LA fans lately….and pretty much all negative about the Cavs and everything they do…Hmmm.

Great pick up by the Ferries Wheel. Next!

Baseball’s biggest busts Andy Marte.
I’ve always been a huge fan of Powe, though I’d never admit it to my Boston-loving friends (including my wife…how did that happen?). Obviously the injury bug is a concern, but with the depth we now have, he won’t be called on to put in as many minutes as he did in Boston. Not to mention adding him to the front court will allow Jackson and Hickson to develop without relying on them for so many minutes.
At any rate, Ferry is once again showing why he’s the best GM in the NBA.

Good pick-up
2-year minimum deal with TEAM option for 2nd season? That sounds like it has a ridiculous upside for the Cavs at pretty much no risk.
