are you joking? is this sarcasm?

by DontCallMeJoey on Aug 6, 2009 10:19 PM CDT up reply actions

Really?

A good model to follow would be picking 7,6,3,3,2,2,2,2. This gives you your superstar (LeBron), all-star(Bosh), and a couple good starters (Perkins and Lee), and a bunch of good role players (Lawson, Blake, Finley, and Mullens) which to me looks like a pretty damn good team.

By the way, Perkins is a great steal at 3. He is at least worth a 4 or could even sneak in with the fives.

Also Joel Przybilla seems to be the most under-rated player on the board at 2. This post has been put up on a number of SBN sites and he seems to be the most popular center.

Yeah, that guy has no idea what he’s talking about. It’s best to just ignore him.

If you’re picking a 7 then LeBron is really the only option. He’s just so much better than Paul, Howard, Wade, or even Kobe.

Of course, since you will be coaching your own team, I’m sure they’ll go undefeated. Your team will probably be the greatest team in the history of basketball with your superior coaching abilities.

by Buckeye Brad on Aug 7, 2009 5:14 PM CDT up reply actions

I like your idea

Because as Joe D once said, this isn’t fantasy basketball. You can’t put a bunch of big names on the same team and expect them to win. It’s gotta be the right chemistry, and everyone’s talents have to compliment each other. The problem with your team is there isn’t really a go-to scorer. J.R Smith is more of a shooter, and Shane Battier won’t do anything more than chuck 3s.

by Indians95 on Aug 13, 2009 11:27 AM CDT up reply actions

No, your point is wrong. Kobe isn’t better than LeBron because he has four rings. You can make an argument he’s better than LeBron (and it would be wrong) but it won’t be based on how many titles they won. Teams win championships, not individual players.

Is Bruce Bowen better than LeBron because he has three rings?
Is Derek Fisher better than LeBron because he has four rings?
Is Robert Horry better than LeBron because he has six rings?

I could go on and on. Do you think every player you has ever won a championship is better than LeBron because he hasn’t won any yet?

Well I sacrificed the bench for the starters…there weren’t too many 2 point guys I considered any good at all. Daye had a good summer league and will probably be able to defend 3 positions once he learns what a barbell is. Collison can defend and doesn’t need to set up the whole team, and Frye isn’t terrible.

I figure the rookies have some upside and if they don’t work out I can draft new ones for this pretend franchise.

by rufio on Aug 8, 2009 5:01 PM CDT up reply actions

There are some steals to be had

With the 2s. Replace Collison with Augustin, and Frye with Pachulia and you have a decent bench. I actually like Daye, being a Piston fan and I think he can really be something.

by detpistons3 on Aug 8, 2009 7:22 PM CDT up reply actions

Eh, I think you need to have a superstar on your team, and if you’re going to pick a 7 it has to be LeBron, of course. On my team above, I started with LeBron, added Derrick Rose as his sidekick, then filled out my starters with good role players (a shooter at 2, a passing PF, and a defensive C). My bench might not be great but I like my starting unit.

Although your team is good, too. Of course we both went with Rose at the point. I wonder if anyone has a computer program that does simulations like they do for baseball. It would be interesting to simulate a matchup of these teams and see who would win.

by Buckeye Brad on Aug 8, 2009 7:53 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't need a simulation

but it would be fun to see how much my team would win bye.

Bench
Ty Lawson – 2
Sam Young – 2
Joel Pryzbilla – 2

Nelson vs. Rose – Rose wins this matchup, but it’s close
Smith vs. Battier- Basically the same type of player, Smith is overrated in this. Cancels out
Battier vs. LBJ – Battier may slow him down a bit, but LBJ dominates here
Luis Scola vs. Kevin Love – Love is alot more powerful, but Scola has more finesse. It’s a tossup
Tyson vs. Perk – Perk is better offensively, Ty has the advantage on D, if he can stay on the court that is

Even though E5 invested alot in his bench, I still like Buckeye’s bench better. You’d lose this in a 7 game series

Ok

He only has an advantage with LB(NY)J other than that is a toss up but my guys are better defenders. My Bench is seriously much better. If anything the Orlando series proved was that a strong bench beats a superstar with a good starting complement but no bench. I agree it would go 7 but my team pulls it out because we have more shooters.

by E5 on Aug 9, 2009 6:39 PM CDT up reply actions

No, you’re completely wrong. First of all, the Orlando series didn’t “prove” anything about basketball, it was just six games. Secondly, Orlando’s bench wasn’t even the reason they beat the Cavs. It was the problems that the Cavs had matching up with the starters that they lost to Orlando, it had nothing to do with the bench.

Also, Derrick Rose was better than Jameer Nelson last year and will be much better than him this year.

by Buckeye Brad on Aug 9, 2009 8:50 PM CDT up reply actions

You could always use NBA 2k9 or something lol

I agree, if you add a 7 it has to be LBJ. But if someone picked CP3 I wouldn’t call them an idiot. Type of guy that makes your entire team better is something you would have to consider investing in. Lebron does the same thing, but not in the way CP3 does it.

I like the other team better

Durant and LBJ will have some chemistry issues. They both need the ball to dominate. Randolph isn’t everyone’s PF because he flourished in Nelly’s system. He is a skinny PF and will be exposed in any other system but Nelly’s. Randolph is a great talent, but I think he’s been overhyped in Nelly’s system.

I like this team

Billups and Horford will dominate in the pick and roll. Durant will be the go-to scorer, and battier will be a lock down defender. The bench could use improvement, I don’t think you could make a team without having Joel Przybilla (a steal at only 2 pts), so possibly replace Blair with Przybilla, and Barnes with Mike Miller.

Yeah that’s silly. So is Gordon at the 3.

I still don’t think Birdman should start in the NBA. Pryzbilla at 2 points is a much better deal, and Perkins probably is too. Anderson can block shots that his man isn’t shooting, is athletic, and get some alley-oops and putbacks, but that’s pretty much his game. He’s not going to bang with Shaq, Howard, or anyone close to that strong.
