Whats Up with J.J. Hickson
I have been waiting for JJ to break out and show me some offense. I'm not talking about the garbage buckets he gets with much needed offensive rebounds. I'm talking about Power Forward moves to the hoop. Cutting without the basketball. Shooting a 15 foot jump shot on a regular basis. Playing good defense. It slays me when I see Williams, J. doing all the right things that JJ should be doing.
Am I just dreaming and hoping that he can do these things or are they possible? Sometimes I think this guy is going to be sooooo goood. Then he has a very dull game. I really would like to see a scoring PF to help this team. Jamison would be an answer but for how long? He is getting up there in age. A much simpler solution is for JJ to be a player.
Help me. I'm dreaming and can't wake up.

It really tough for a guy in his second year in the league
to get those opportunities when he is generally on the floor with the most dominant center of the last 20 years and the most dominant PF playing SF in the last 20 years. Not to mention that any time the ball doesn’t go to Shaq or Lebron, it is in the hands of an outside shooter.
Williams looks so good because he is getting a lot of floor time when Shaq/and or Lebron aren’t on the floor. That isn’t to take anything away from Williams but he gets more opportunities to create on his own. He’s also a more polished product. He spent four years with the Tar Heels while JJ left NC State after his freshman year. Not only that, but Williams spent time playing overseas and had to refine his game in order to even get a NBA roster spot. Jawad is 26 and JJ is 21. I hope/imagine that giving JJ 5 more years to mature, he’ll be a better player than Jawad…and this coming from a Tar Heels fan.

Interesting take
I appreciate your viewpoint. You obviously consider LeBron a PF. I think of him as a #3. A really big #3 that needs a shooting PF to take the load off. Your point about Shaq and playing time is really good.
So let me ask you this. What good would Jamison be if he had to play with Shaq and LeBron and the guards? Is it that we don’t really need a shootibg PF or JJ just isn’t experienced enough?
Thanks for the conversation.

jj
got talent but will take a few more years. He maybe a good shout blocker but really needs to work on his defense. He really shouldnt be the starter @ pf. Wildthing should be, but the would leave a weakness when other bench players are out there. Just as West should be starter instead of Parker. Look @ these 2 guys numbers & their perfomance & impact on the games. Verajoa could avg. 10-14 a game if they’d pass to him as many times he’s cutting & open, or feed him on the post up but they dont. They even post up Z & he’s as slow as a snail with his moves to the basket. Coach Brown needs to change sum offense & get more people involved & get MORE movement on offense. Talk of Z being traded would be great ! His offense isnt great this year & his defense gives up more points than his offense creates. He’s gotta be the slowest man in the NBA. And coach Brown ! wWhats up with Gibson? He was hot as hell shooting, top 4 in 3pt shooting in Nba & plays good Defense. This team has alot of talent, just think how much better they’d be if they had a good coach !!! I wish Austin Carr was the coach, that be awesome !

Good point on JJ's defense
Your right he is a good shot blocker I’m surprised you think Brown isn’t a great coach. Best record in the NBA second year in a row. Getting the players to buy in on defense. Seems OK to me.

Austin Carr as coach
would be a disaster.

yeah…he’d probably shout “get that weak stuff outta here!” at a ref when challenging a call
I loved watching AC play (when he was relatively healthy), but he is SO much of a “homer” he’s hard to listen to

JJ shows his stuff against the Lakers
Wow did he move well without the ball and went to the rim strong. He has talent. His defense looked better than Jawad’s last night also.

dude
played monster for us in the LA win, and yes he has that potential, but i think he himself has to realize that he is able to do those things consistently and the way the team has been hanging on to wins, he probably feels like he doesnt want to take a chance to use those games to be experimental.
JJ has a lot of upside, he will get better, he could be All Star caliber but he will not be on this team because they have so much other weapons.
"minds sharpens minds, like steel sharpens steel"
he needs to let those natural basketball instincts kick in and turn off the “what if” voice that is holding him back…especially at the start of games when both teams are starting out even….and unless it’s a serious defensive lapse, MB has to be willing to let him do it….mistakes and all….If he can get over that hump they could have LeBron @ SF and LeBron lite (JJ) @ PF
JJ played well against OK City
I liked the agressiveness JJ showed last night. With Varejo and Z both quiet someone had to pick it up at the PF position.
