Game #38 - Cleveland Cavaliers at Denver Nuggets Game NIght Open Thread

Cleveland Cavaliers at Denver Nuggets, Jan 8, 2010 9:30 PM CST

2009/2010 NBA Regular Season
VS
22-1328-9
January 8, 2010
Pepsi Center
10:30 PM et
Radio - WTAM 1100 / FOXSports HD; ESPN HD
Probable starters:
Chauncey Billups PG Mo Williams
Arron Afflalo SG Anthony Parker
Joey Graham SF LeBron James
Kenyon Martin PF J.J. Hickson
Nene C Shaquille O'Neal

After dominating LeBron James and the Cavaliers early on in their careers, things have changed a bit recently for Carmelo Anthony and the Nuggets.  Swept in two meetings last year, the Nuggets come into tonight's game battered a bruised, with virtually everyone a Game-Time decision.

The thought heading in is the Chauncey Billups will play with a groin strain.  The status of Anthony is much more tenuous. The Bird-Man, Chris Anderson and rookie phenom Ty Lawson are also questionable, suffering from ankle sprains.

As for the Cavaliers, all present and accounted for, sans Jamario Moon. Shoukd be good times as the Cavaliers start a long West Coast swing.

would it be fair to say that if they keep daring KMart to beat them with threes, he just might?

Right now, the nuggets are getting way too many slam dunk opportunities. Are they just bigger and stronger?

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 10:16 PM CST reply actions

No

Cavs have no defense and a sloppy offense going right now

by cavslandrocks on Jan 8, 2010 10:18 PM CST reply actions

Nothing works when we get the ball in the paint

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 10:19 PM CST reply actions

Jawad looking ok again tonight…so far

by cavslandrocks on Jan 8, 2010 10:20 PM CST reply actions

this could be a LOT worse than six points..Nuggets will regret letting the Cavs hang around

by cavslandrocks on Jan 8, 2010 10:22 PM CST reply actions

this is shaping up to be a 25 TO night for the Cavs….hopefully they will take care of the ball better SOON

by cavslandrocks on Jan 8, 2010 10:27 PM CST reply actions

Considering we were down by 10 at some point in the 2nd, I’d say we’ve snapped out of it and we’re in good shape.

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 10:57 PM CST reply actions

It would be nice if the Cavs came out with a 12-0 run in the 2nd half

by cavslandrocks on Jan 8, 2010 10:59 PM CST reply actions

LOL somehow, I just don’t see it happening.

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:01 PM CST up reply actions

yeah, I know…they have done it a couple times though

by cavslandrocks on Jan 8, 2010 11:05 PM CST up reply actions

Portland up by 13

Some writer on SSR guarenteed a laker win tonight. If there’s one reason I’m sick of Laker fans, it’s because of their hubris.

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:00 PM CST reply actions

they are idiots…PERIOD…the Cavs can’t waste this chance BOS, ORL, and now LA losing

by cavslandrocks on Jan 8, 2010 11:03 PM CST reply actions

i don’t see them wasting it. This really looks like a winnable game.

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:07 PM CST up reply actions

We haven’t been getting calls when we get in the paint.

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:10 PM CST reply actions

was just typing something similar

by cavslandrocks on Jan 8, 2010 11:11 PM CST up reply actions

WHAT MUST VAREJAO DO?

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:12 PM CST up reply actions

LeBron having an average night so far…someone needs to step up

by cavslandrocks on Jan 8, 2010 11:11 PM CST reply actions

They’ve been way too good at outside shooting

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:12 PM CST reply actions

parker for 3

Are we going to have to resort to outside shooting?

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:13 PM CST reply actions

I really don’t mind the fouls, but when you KNOW they are going to call them, make sure the guy you’re fouling knows it

by cavslandrocks on Jan 8, 2010 11:14 PM CST reply actions

The refs are absolute garbage tonight. Oh well, that happens sometimes in the NBA.

by Simmsinns on Jan 8, 2010 11:15 PM CST reply actions

again, too many dunk opportunities for the nuggets

we need help

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:17 PM CST reply actions

finally lebron gets fts

when’s the last time that happened

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:18 PM CST reply actions

he needs to just keep taking it in and force them to call the fouls ….EVENTUALLY they HAVE to

by cavslandrocks on Jan 8, 2010 11:19 PM CST reply actions

poor lebron

this is one of those third quarters where he has to do everything

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:21 PM CST reply actions

but MB will rest him to start the 4th if it’s still close

by cavslandrocks on Jan 8, 2010 11:25 PM CST up reply actions

our defense is getting better

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:21 PM CST reply actions

we’ve clawed back

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:22 PM CST reply actions

I hope Andy hits these…1-4 so far tonight

by cavslandrocks on Jan 8, 2010 11:23 PM CST reply actions

poor varejao

just 2 points tonight even though he’s tried so hard to draw fouls

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:26 PM CST up reply actions

lebron’s caught fire right now

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:28 PM CST reply actions

VAREJAO with a sweet block, i was afraid he was going to get fouled

and an awesome 3

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:28 PM CST reply actions

I’d like to know why people say LeBron has no mid range shot..that’s all he’s been hitting tonight 18-20 footers

by cavslandrocks on Jan 8, 2010 11:28 PM CST reply actions

it’s the only way they can argue that kobe is better

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:29 PM CST up reply actions

i bet varejao cannot wait to get out of denver

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:29 PM CST reply actions

final shot for lebron

great end to a shaky 3rd quarter

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:30 PM CST reply actions

up four and charging…no more letup…this really is a must win if they want to send a message

by cavslandrocks on Jan 8, 2010 11:31 PM CST reply actions

we can say that we didn’t crumble like the other top teams did

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:32 PM CST up reply actions

there’s not a hell of a whole lot to them without Gasol, eh?

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:34 PM CST up reply actions

this is where I disagree with resting LeBron..they were on a roll…just leave him in and rest him after they put it away

by cavslandrocks on Jan 8, 2010 11:35 PM CST reply actions

coach brown, ladies and gentlemen

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:37 PM CST up reply actions

of course varejao is penalized for trying to steal

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:38 PM CST reply actions

they’ll be doing well to score 90 tonight

by cavslandrocks on Jan 8, 2010 11:38 PM CST reply actions

delonte west must have thought he was lebron right there

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:39 PM CST reply actions

the nuggets are playing on more intense fumes than us

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:41 PM CST reply actions

i’ve never seen a team get so many easy dunks

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:42 PM CST up reply actions

this is where they should be taking EVERY possession straight to the hole

by cavslandrocks on Jan 8, 2010 11:42 PM CST reply actions

cause that’s been working tonight and we’ve made our fts

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:43 PM CST up reply actions

no Shaq = no defensive presence inside

by cavslandrocks on Jan 8, 2010 11:43 PM CST reply actions

this game can’t end soon enough

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:44 PM CST up reply actions

not until we get the lead

by cavslandrocks on Jan 8, 2010 11:46 PM CST up reply actions

Cavs have 12 guys available Nuggets have 8…Cavs should be winning just from an endurance standpoint

by cavslandrocks on Jan 8, 2010 11:45 PM CST reply actions

the nuggets want it more tonight

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:46 PM CST up reply actions

That call was BS…That would be a foul on Andy

by cavslandrocks on Jan 8, 2010 11:48 PM CST reply actions

YES AN OFFENSIVE FOUL

we needed that

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:49 PM CST reply actions

MO!!!! you dumb@$$…7 min to go and chucking up threes

by cavslandrocks on Jan 8, 2010 11:50 PM CST reply actions

what else can he do? the nuggets are all bigger and stronger than him

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:51 PM CST up reply actions

a lot of the 3 point attempts have been too short

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:50 PM CST reply actions

missed FTs and turnovers is what to blame if they lose this one

by cavslandrocks on Jan 8, 2010 11:52 PM CST reply actions

6 min to go down 3 this game is still the Cavs to take

by cavslandrocks on Jan 8, 2010 11:56 PM CST reply actions

way to go varejao

cavs within 1

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:56 PM CST reply actions

that should be a loose ball foul FOR us

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:57 PM CST reply actions

VERY tough shot by ilgauskas

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:58 PM CST reply actions

yeah , but he’s washed up and Andy sucks, and Shaq should retire…Do you ever get tired of hearing all of that crap?

by cavslandrocks on Jan 9, 2010 12:00 AM CST up reply actions

oh parker i’m sorry

by WaveOcean on Jan 8, 2010 11:58 PM CST reply actions

NO easy threes…NO easy dunks

by cavslandrocks on Jan 9, 2010 12:01 AM CST up reply actions

If they win this one Andy gets the game ball

by cavslandrocks on Jan 9, 2010 12:03 AM CST reply actions

THAT was NOT goaltending

by cavslandrocks on Jan 9, 2010 12:03 AM CST reply actions

a goaltend. of course

by WaveOcean on Jan 9, 2010 12:03 AM CST reply actions

loose ball foul in our favor, finally

by WaveOcean on Jan 9, 2010 12:04 AM CST reply actions

anyone but LeBron and that would have been an offensive foul

by cavslandrocks on Jan 9, 2010 12:06 AM CST reply actions

TAKE THE BALL TO THE HOLE!!

by cavslandrocks on Jan 9, 2010 12:07 AM CST reply actions

well, at least we lost to a good team tonight

by WaveOcean on Jan 9, 2010 12:17 AM CST up reply actions

unacceptable..they had this game going into the fourth and MB gave it away by keeping LeBron on the bench

by cavslandrocks on Jan 9, 2010 12:19 AM CST up reply actions

WHAT are they doing?…shoot the ball

by cavslandrocks on Jan 9, 2010 12:12 AM CST reply actions

Denver has 23 points off of Cavs turnovers

by cavslandrocks on Jan 9, 2010 12:14 AM CST reply actions

That should be the game

by cavslandrocks on Jan 9, 2010 12:15 AM CST reply actions

all Denver has to do is miss the second FT…game over

by cavslandrocks on Jan 9, 2010 12:20 AM CST reply actions

lebron played like kobe tonight…getting a lot of points but terrible shooting and unable to get his teammates going

by WaveOcean on Jan 9, 2010 12:21 AM CST reply actions

quick clock twice in a row…1.4 to call time out and 1.2 to foul a guy as he touches the ball??

by cavslandrocks on Jan 9, 2010 12:22 AM CST reply actions

think I’ll go puke…that was sickening

by cavslandrocks on Jan 9, 2010 12:24 AM CST reply actions

well, denver’s had our number for years up until last year

by WaveOcean on Jan 9, 2010 12:41 AM CST up reply actions

I have tickets to that game

by WaveOcean on Jan 9, 2010 12:39 AM CST up reply actions

thankfully it’s not tomorrow

we’ll be alright.

by WaveOcean on Jan 9, 2010 12:40 AM CST up reply actions

then GSW on a back to back

by cavslandrocks on Jan 9, 2010 12:25 AM CST reply actions

Ugh. I only watched the first half of the game and was so sad to see that we lost :(

They’ll be ok, though. Denver’s a tough team and it was a really close game. They’ll bounce back.

In the meantime… Orlando and Boston, keep losing.

by emily522 on Jan 9, 2010 1:12 PM CST reply actions

yeah…keep on keepin on. still, the cavs by far have the best record amongst elite teams against other elite teams. they also have the best record against teams over .500. whereas orlando and Boston still have a lot of tough games, and some on the road, the cave have a good majority of their games for the rest of the year at home. they also have much fewer games against good teams than Orlando, Boston, San Antonio, or LA.

by bross09 on Jan 10, 2010 6:16 PM CST up reply actions

If only JR Smith was as dumb against us as he was when playing the kings. that was honestly one of the funnies plays I have ever seen…up their with milton bradley thinking it was 3 outs last year.
