Fear the Links - 2/16/10; Is today the day for Amare?

Fearthelinks2_medium

Good Morning Cavaliers Nation!  The trade rumors continue to grow and the trade deadline is quickly approaching.  Could today be the day something breaks?  Some seem to think so.  The fact that Amare Stoudemire is tweeting about his ability to play with Shaq is an indication, to some, that Amare - and the Suns - are being distracted by all the trade talk.  The Suns return to action tonight in Memphis.  Could they want the distraction over and done with before they return to the court??  We'll see!

This is supposedly the climax of trade season in the NBA. But that isn't really accurate.

Are the Cleveland Cavaliers better off without the high-risk gamble on Amar'e Stoudemire? - cleveland.com
Talking to myself about the Amar'e Stoudemire rumors ...

Sure, there's risk in any big move, but Stoudemire could be Cavaliers' title clincher - cleveland.com
When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that's Amar'e. (Although it could also be Jamario.)

LeBron James is the greatest Cleveland Cavalier of all time, but who's No.2? - cleveland.com
In this case, there can be no doubt. LeBron James is clearly the top player in Cavaliers history.

Cleveland Cavaliers XL: The 40 greatest players - cleveland.com
In celebration of the Cleveland Cavaliers 40th season The Plain Dealer has selected the 40 greatest players in Cleveland Cavaliers history. Plain Dealer sportswriters Mary Schmitt Boyer, Dennis Manoloff and Mike Peticca put together a pool of candidates, and Plain Dealer columnists Bill Livingston and Terry Pluto, Deputy Sports Editor Mike Starkey, retired Plain Dealer reporter Burt Graeff and former Cavs beat writer Branson Wright aided in the selection process. The only requirement was that players had to have played with the Cavs two full seasons.

Sources: Cleveland Cavaliers talking Corey Maggette with Golden State Warriors - ESPN
The Cleveland Cavaliers' pursuit of Amare Stoudemire continues, but in case they can't land the Phoenix Suns' All-Star forward, they have begun talks with the Golden State Warriors about Corey Maggette.

Dwight Howard says he has no beef with Shaquille O'Neal over "Superman" nickname - ESPN
The Orlando Magic center, who has recently been verbally sparring with Shaquille O'Neal, said Sunday before the All-Star Game that there's no battle with Shaq over who is more deserving of the "Superman" nickname.

Shaq happy as co-star with Cavaliers | Manila Bulletin
Nowadays, this is how Shaq rolls. Cramming his 7-foot-1, 325-plus pounds into a four-wheeled office chair straining at its screws, Shaquille O'Neal raises those size 23 sneakers and slides across the Cavaliers practice court in Independence, Ohio, like a kid sledding down a snowy hill.

Which NBA team is on the move? - chicagotribune.com
The Cavaliers learned last May that not even LeBron James can win an NBA title without a decent supporting cast. They won't make the same mistake this time around, not with King James able to opt out of his contract and become a free agent once the season ends.

Stoudemire does not want to come to Cleveland - Morning Journal/News-Herald
Cavs guard Mo Williams might be back soon. He sprained his left shoulder in the Toronto game on Jan. 19. His rehabilitation is going well and some think he’ll return to action in the next week or so. "(I) just got done with a great rehab," Williams said on his Twitter account. "(I’m) so ready to get back."

Wilbon: Lakers, Cavs on a collision course - Washington Post- nbcsports.msnbc.com
It's difficult to imagine the two best teams in basketball being any more clearly identifiable at the all-star break than they are right now. We can try to make a case, since it would make a better story between now and April, for the Denver Nuggets in the West, for the Orlando Magic or Atlanta Hawks in the East, maybe even the Boston Celtics if all the old codgers stay healthy or if they swindle some club just before the trade deadline.

Blazers on verge of acquiring Marcus Camby - CBSSports.com
The Trail Blazers were on the verge of acquiring Marcus Camby from the Clippers early Tuesday, a move that would fill the void left by season-ending injuries to centers Greg Oden and Joel Pryzbilla.

LeBron deserves great teammates more than once per year - NBA - CBSSports.com Basketball
Once a year we get to see it. But only once a year. It's not enough to sustain me, but it'll have to do, because this is all there is. It's the NBA All-Star Game, and this is what it looks like when LeBron James plays with great teammates.

Maggette trade talk…oh dear god if we get that desperate we should just not do anything this week.

maggette has a higher PER than stoudemire and is a ridiculously efficient scorer

i’d be happy to take any of murphy, jamison, or maggette if we can’t land stoudemire. all of those guys would improve this team.

If you don't respect Aaron Laffey, I will fight you.

i’m very happy about getting amare, jamison or murphy, but i’m not a big fan of maggette

Agreed, but I’d like to expand this, don’t give up JJ for any of the 30+ year olds. Amare is one thing, being only 27, Maggette, Jamison, and Murphy are another.

Hey johnnyphoenix

About what I said the other day…yeah, just forget I said it. I was more eager to find an excuse to do something out of the ordinary like post a link to a HSM3 song on an NBA blog than anything.

STAT

is already a cavalier…..it just has to be officially reported…just wait a few hours and you will see.

None one is going to believe you unless you provide a link to said “official report.”

NO to Maggette

I don’t think Maggette would be a good trade at all. I don’t see how he’s an upgrade. He looks good because, of the style of offense the Warriors run and he only shoots 25% and 23% from the 3 point line last 2 years. He gets hurt a lot.

I guess he’s worth it if you only have to give up Z and Z comes back but, another thing is Maggette has 3 years and 31 million left on his contract that’s not good.

That just screams of making a deal just for the sake of making one.

To be honest, the Maggette talk makes me think it’s much more likely that we don’t get Amare.

At this point I’ll trust Danny Ferry any direction we go. I just want closure, Thusday can’t come quick enough.
