Around SBN: Leandro Damiao Is Still Really Good

Has anyone thought of this line up?

pg - Mo Williams

sg - Lebron James

sf - Antwan Jamison

pf - JJ Hickson

c - Shaquille Oneal

Just wondering because that is a pretty frightening (to the rest of the NBA) line up that could prove to be very rewarding.

second unit

pg - Delonte West/ Sebastian Telfair

sg - Anthony Parker/ Boobie Gibson

sf - Jamario Moon/ Jawad Williams

pf - Anderson Verajao/ Leon Powe

c - Zydrunas Igauskas

not sure who the Cavs are guna waive, Green or Jackson once Z gets back.

I definitely have thought of that. A fearsome matchup indeed. However I can’t imagine they’d use a lineup like that regularly.

cool

well this was not intended to be the starting line up or the preferred line up by any means, i was just kinda wondering “what if” we were to put this squad on the floor together, but thanks!

With Jamison at the #3, any team with athletic wingmen would tear this defense apart.

I was going to post this exact response. The other day when the Cavs had him playing the 3 against Orlando, the commentators expressed their opinion on the possibility. Not only did I not hear a positive out of it, I had many very huge negatives. One of which rolub brought up. Another point was that if you put Hickson in the starting lineup alongside Jamison, not only does it cause a defensive problem, it also cuts down on the speed that we have and the ability to shoot the 3 without AP.

I like this line-up

Mike Brown doesn't like this lineup

In last nights game we only played 8 players. Shaq, Varejo, Jamison, Lebron, Moon, Mo, Parker, and West. Those players rotated and learned to play with each other defensively. The offense is easy. The players that sat are the weaker defensive players. Hickson is athletic but he has defensive flaws. I suspect that each game forward MB will insert whichever player is working the hardest defensively and is adjusting to Jamison being in the lineup. This will continue until all players are again in sinc. This should work out well come play-off time.

This is what it should be...

Starting Line-Up

PG – Mo WIlliams
SG – Jawad Williams
SF – LeBron James
PF – Antawn Jamison
C – Shaquille O’Neal

Bench

PG – Delonte West
SG – Daniel Gibson/Jamario Moon
SF – Anthony Parker/Danny Green
PF – J.J. Hickson/Leon Powe/Darnell Jackson
C – Zydrunas Ilgauskas/Anderson Varejao

We need to buy out Sebastian Telfair. I don’t have a good feeling about him.

by Tiny iZ Boss on Feb 24, 2010 9:57 AM CST reply actions

Telfair won’t see the floor. Don’t worry.

by rockemsockem on Feb 24, 2010 12:41 PM CST up reply actions

Jawad at starting SG? Explanation please!

by ClevelandCrazy29 on Feb 24, 2010 2:44 PM CST up reply actions

I’m not asking you. I clicked the wrong reply.

by ClevelandCrazy29 on Feb 24, 2010 2:45 PM CST up reply actions

We can’t buy out telfair. he has a player option for next year which he is very likely to pick up.

Jamison just doesn’t stack up too well at the 3, he is much more difficult to guard as a 4 and creates more mismatches there.

Also, defensively you pretty much have to have Delonte on the floor significant minutes, because he is our best on-ball perimeter defender.

also, when Z returns It is likely that D-Block gets the axe to make the roster spot.

our best looks:

1 Mo Williams
2 Delonte West
3 LeBron James
4 Antawn Jamison
5 Shaquille O’Neal

second unit:

1 Daniel Gibson
2 Anthony Parker
3 Jamario Moon
4 Anderson Varejao
5 Zydrunas Ilgauskas

Bench:
Danny Green
Leon Powe
Sebastian Telfair
Jawad Williams
JJ Hickson

What Cavs team have you been watching this year? Hickson on the 3rd unit are you crazy?

by ClevelandCrazy29 on Feb 24, 2010 2:30 PM CST up reply actions

Is Hickson better than Jamison? No. Is he better than Varejao? No. So third unit he goes.

by rockemsockem on Feb 24, 2010 2:37 PM CST up reply actions

No, he isn’t a third unit guy, if Andy is so much better why did JJ start 51 straight. Also, he was the most protected piece on the Cavs amidst all the trade talk. A guy that valuable doesn’t go third string. He and Andy should be coexistant and play equally on the 2nd team.

by ClevelandCrazy29 on Feb 24, 2010 2:39 PM CST up reply actions

Starting is really meaningless. Varejao got the bulk of the playing time in those 51 straight starts. In the future could Hickson be better than Varejao? Certainly, but not right now.

by rockemsockem on Feb 24, 2010 2:44 PM CST up reply actions

Starting isn’t meaningless, those guys are the ones that set the table for the pace of the game and the energy that the team will play with.

by ClevelandCrazy29 on Feb 24, 2010 2:46 PM CST up reply actions

So why haven’t the Spurs started Manu for all these years?

by rockemsockem on Feb 24, 2010 2:50 PM CST up reply actions

Why is Varejao third on the team in minutes played and Hickson sixth?

by rockemsockem on Feb 24, 2010 2:53 PM CST up reply actions

JJ might play some minutes, but simply he was only a starter because varejao is a big mismatch against most teams #2. Also Varejao will play the bulk of the minutes like he was anyway. JJ is a nice player and can rebound pretty well but most of his offense was handed to him on a platter by LeBron’s passing ability.

Jameson can spread the floor, crash the offensive glass, and has a more dangerous post up game.

Basically Varejao gives you fantastic defense and energy: hustle type plays, which make a bigger impact against #2 guys and starters who are already huffing and puffing when Andy has fresh legs. Andy is the ultimate sixth man but much more limited as a starter or having to play significant minutes at the 5, like he has since the trade. Probably the biggest reason why we have looked out of sync.

to answer this you need to understand Mike Brown!

You CAN’T. He is the worst strategist in the league. Anthony Parker wouldn’t start for any of the top 8 teams and neither would hickson. Hickson has a great upside though. Parker should never be in the game in the fourth quarter unless his man he is guarding is an amputee! Hickson started solely because of Mike Brown’s ?*&(E@WD+_

obviously these aren’t defined “units”. I think he still plans on playing JJ 20-25 minutes.

We can outright release him.

very good.

Now this is something that makes perfect sense…no starting hot wad at the 2.

by bross09 on Feb 24, 2010 4:22 PM CST up reply actions

yes

i like this line up also, but i posted that line up only to see what you guys thought of it, to me that line up would be very hard to defend and would be the best defensive line up as well….well aside from Mo anyways.

Good thinking!

Although Parker would be THE LAST man off my bench …NOOOO D! I would also like to see Delonte play more point when we have a young quick opposing point guard. I love Mo, but he is probably the third worse defender on the team behind parker and boobie and tied with Jamison.
