Danny Green, Darnell Jackson assigned to D-League

The Cleveland Cavaliers have assigned guard/forward Danny Green and forward Darnell Jackson to the Erie BayHawks of the NBA Development League, Cavaliers General Manager Danny Ferry announced today.

Green has played in 13 games for the Cavaliers this season and has averaged 2.5 points on .480 shooting and 0.7 rebounds in 5.2 minutes per game. Jackson has averaged 0.8 points on .348 shooting and 0.8 rebounds in 4.0 minutes per game in 23 games. In two games with the BayHawks during the 2008-09 season, Jackson averaged 19.5 points on .652 shooting and 6.0 rebounds in 25.5 minutes per game. Both Green and Jackson will be available to play tomorrow night for Erie in their game versus the Dakota Wizards at 7 p.m. at the Tullio Arena in Erie.

The BayHawks are the D-League affiliate of the Cavaliers and the Toronto Raptors.

I like this. There’s almost no chance either gets significant, hell minimal, playing time with the glut of players ahead of them on the depth chart. Also! doesn’t this clear space for Z on the roster?

No...

I believe D-League guys are still part of the 15-man roster. The Cavs are at 15 right now, so they will have to make a roster move at that time.

Ah, that makes sense. I’m voting for cutting Telfair over Jackson if it comes down to it, sunk cost and all.

Agreed. I still like what D-Jaxx gave the Cavs late last year.

Likely to be one of these two guys that goes, and honestly, it will probably be Jackson.

Agreed on who might go. I love the effort DJ gives. He’d probably get more playing time somewhere else.

Why do you think Jackson? I have to think he’s the more valuable of the two players.

by hans on Feb 24, 2010 8:14 PM CST up reply actions

Although, as I’m thinking about it, Telfair’s ‘10/’11 contract would be a valuable in the sense of it being a tradable asset, or more likely to be valuable as an add on piece in a trade to even out money.

Well for next season, and I also consider Jackson having some play at the 5, not at the 4 so much. Depth at center could potentially be a problem following this season.

Any idea how long they'll be down

Is this something that’ll last a week? Until they’re needed?

I blog at Ridiculous Upside. I know you'll love it.

Or is it just until Z comes back

And they plan to cut one of these guys?

My guess...

Darnell Jackson will be the guy that gets cut. The Cavaliers really like Green’s upside. Just my opinion, though
