Playing with the NBA Trade machine.

Just for fun What do you think?

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ygxcnc9

Assuming both Shaq and Z could reach buyouts and resign with the Cavs for the remainder of the season.

The cavs finally get a talented,  youthful nucleus around LeBron in the form of Stoudemire and Iguodala in order to make the Cavs a more attractive destination for him next year.

The sixers get huge salary cap relief and some decent budget roleplayers

The Suns get a decent frontcourt overhaul in the form of Delambert and Hickson on a reasonable budget and cap relief in the form of Z's expiring contract.

If one of the teams is skittish the cavs would probably be willing to throw in some draft picks and cash to sweeten the deal.

What do you think?

I tried to get Jamison for D West and one of our forwards

But the trade failed because of Jamison’s cap busting contract.

by WaveOcean on Feb 6, 2010 12:10 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

Imagine that trade goes through, the cavs have to just play a little short handed for 30 days waiting for Z and Shaq to re-sign, then if the wizards get desperate enough to unload Jamison the Cavs could even think about sign-and-trading wally szczerbiak to an expiring contract and trading it for Jamison.

The Cavs nucleus of LeBron, Iggy, Shaq, and Amar’e is hailed as ‘The Four Horsemen’ complete with a Sports Illustrated cover shot of the four of them on horseback!

Not to be outdone, the Bulls unload Kirk Heinrich’s contract and benefit from being the best team that has the capacity to sign both Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. The 2010-2011 Bulls starting lineup: Derrick Rose, Dwyane Wade, Luol Deng, Chris Bosh, Joakim Noah. This new Bull’s lineup quickly receives the moniker “The Unholy Alliance” and becomes the Cavs ultimate nemesis for the next 3 seasons.

First of all, LOL in every literal sense. Second, at the risk of sounding like an idiot, I do not understand the “Unholy Alliance” part. Care to explain, seá¹…or?

Clearly, the Bulls will use Voodoo witchcraft and some sort of magic potion in order to bring in the two most supremely talented mercenaries (not named LeBron) in some sort of “Unholy Alliance” against our Righteous King and his Reign in Cleveland.

new possibility, based on the names being thrown around in rumors like so many leaves in autumn.

Both this trade and Jaws trade are interesting but the lineup is bothersome.

Both assume we get Z and Shaq back to play center. Varejo and Amare to play PF. Mo on the point. LeBron at SF. Does that put Iggy out of position at Shooting guard? Do you use him like a 6th man? I certainly like this trade for this year. I love this trade if James moves on to another team because we have a core of great players.
But sometime after this year we have to fix that center position.

This can win now. This can win later.

Winning is not everything but it sure feels like it sometimes

Two things

I want to keep Shaq, and it decreases our winning percentage by one. So whats the point of the trade if it makes us worse?

This trade will never happen.

Also, there is absolutely no way that the Cavs would trade both Z and Shaq, because that would leave a HUGE hole at center. And you can’t just assume that the other team will buy out their contracts and they’ll be released to resign with the Cavs, because teams aren’t allowed to agree to that before a trade so the Cavs wouldn’t risk losing both centers. And if the NBA thought that the Cavs had a buyout agreement in place before the trade then the team could be in big trouble. No way that Ferry would risk the Cavs’ postseason by making a trade like this.

If you’re going to propose a trade then at least make it somewhat realistic.

Even with the buyouts it just doesn’t make sense. Have you seriously been watching the cavs for the past 11 STRAIGHT wins???

This is somewhat of a crude theory, but if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Honestly, around christmas I would not have minded this trade, but the team has truly gelled and they are playing great. boobie is great in a starting role, lebron is hot, shaq gets better every month, and hickson is improving. I really like where this team is heading. Hickson has become a consistent rebounder. shaq has been better and better every single month…that is just what shaq does, starts off real slow but when he gets rolling, he is hard to stop.

Any trade of Shaq IMO is dumb. shaq is such an asset in the playoffs and on defense in the playoffs. i think it is doubly as dumb considering how he is playing as of late…

also consider that most of this hot streak is without Delonte or Mo. when they get back, our offense will be more efficient and we will be EVEN better. Also, powe will be back soon and contribute.

that being said, there is also the chemistry factor. this team plays so well together. lebron truly seems to trust guys like jawad, boobie, shaq and JJ. if you bring in another guy, it throws a monkey wrench into the chemistry and cause the offense to slow. look at what happened with the trade that brought us wally?? it hurt us that season…It was good in the long run but horrible in the short run.

right now it is about the short run. lebron’s contract is up at the end of the year and the team is playing great. it would be dumb to sabatoge this season and any trade done right now will sabatoge the season (or just the postseason)

I just don’t think lebron trusts his teammates in the clutch. We might win the ring this year but LeBron would probably be more easily persuaded to stay if the cavs were to acquire a guy like iguodala or stoudemire. moreover I just don’t like seeing valuable assets like expiring contracts go to waste. Quite frankly the cavs are in terrible position this offseason as they can really only get worse, if Z hangs it up or they don’t bring back shaq and lebron both. If lebron leaves, the team crumbles. If they made a big deal the cavs might be competitive next year even if lebron left.

Of course a deal bringing either iggy or Amare to cleveland for little in return isn’t likely, and one that brought both for expiring contracts and spare parts (like this one) is even less likely. However if i was Danny Ferry I would be on the phone trying to convince the Suns and Sixers every single day between now and the deadline. Because if he could pull it off, not only would lebron be a fool not to stay, if he did the cavs could basically cruise to the next 3 nba titles without breaking a sweat, barring some team reeling in both D wade and bosh and putting some really nice pieces around them too (the bulls unholy alliance lol)

Even if we got those guys, I don’t know what the chemistry would be like. we would also be giving up our whole front court.

I understand this whole thing was just for fun, but I think in the middle of a 12 game winning streak is the wrong time to make a trade. trades at the deadline oftentimes end up not working out that season…remember how sluggish wally was his first year and how it killed us in the playoffs?? the guys coming in have to learn the system, lebron has to learn how to play with them, he has to learn to trust them, and so many other factors.

Honestly, it is asinine to think we can just add these guys and “crease to the next 3 nba titles without breaking a sweat”. I know NBA is a game dominated by stars, but it still is a team game. the team has to work well together, all the players have to buy into the system, all the players have to work together well. If we did this deal, I honestly see the team going into a slump, going into the playoffs sluggishly…making it to the championship (because the east sucks this year) just barely and then getting killed by the lakers. right now if I had to predict how the season would end I would say cavs in 6 over LA.

there is more to basketball then just trading for some guys and plugging them on your team…this isn’t a fantasy league this is the NBA. in fantasy it works but in the NBA it just doesn’t. Teams that end up making trades at the trade deadline often hurt the team b/c players come in, in the middle of the season and cannot learn the offense or just the team system. Baseball deadline trades work b/c there are not offensive schemes as much as in basketball…the NFL trade deadline is used sparingly for good reason…it would be even worse to change teams in the NFL.

I just was reading an article too on the bleacher report too where a guy was saying the cavs should not make a trade.

Now that the stoudemire Rumors are heating back up, what do you guys think of somthing like this 3 team deal:

Sixers Get:
Wally Szczerbiak (From Cleveland)*
Jason Richardson (from Phoenix)
2011 First round pick (from Cleveland)
2010 Second Round Pick (from Cleveland)

Suns get:
Zydrunas Ilgauskas (from Cleveland)*
JJ Hickson (from Cleveland)
Anthony Parker (from Cleveland)
Jason Kapono (from Philly)*
2010 First round Pick (from Cleveland)

Cavs Get:
Amare Stoudemire (from Phoenix)
Andre Iguodala (from Philly)
Samuel Delembert (from Philly)

  • denotes expiring contracts

The contracts work if Wally is signed to a deal worth about $17 million (which the sixers could buy out for something like $2-4 million i’m sure.)

I think this is a fantastic trade for the cavs and suns and at least a pretty good one for the sixers. If I were Danny Ferry this is the deal I would be pushing for but I have a feeling the sixers might be a bit wary of taking Jason Richardson’s contract. The suns won’t deal stoudemire without getting rid of that deal unfortunately.

The sixers have thought about taking Richardson’s deal in the Iggy for Amare rumor but were really just swapping out delembert’s deal for Richardson’s. However JRich could bring some flash to the sixer offense that is losing Iguodala and become a trade chip for them around this time next year.

The cavs take delembert because he is a defensive presence who can spell shaq while Z is on his 30 day sabbatical and add depth to the C position for next year if Z decides to hang it up.

ok.

-so we trade away our future with 3 future draft picks.

-we trade away a budding young star at the PF position in hickson

this whole deal is banking on us signing wally to an overpriced deal and some team actually taking the bait? at the end it sounds like you are also banking on Z taking a buyout.

honestly, I don’t see any of the teams pulling the trigger here, including the cavs. I don’t think ferry would want to give up our future just to rent amare.

Even if the cavs traded all their picks for the next 4 seasons they still don’t add up to the value of guaranteeing that LeBron has every reason to stay. LeBron’s presence on the team increases the value of the Cavs by at least $200 million (literally)

Not to mention LeBron being on the team is what lends all the legitimacy that has led to the cavs to being a contending team that players like shaq and stoudemire actually want to play for.

Dan Gilbert simply cannot lose LeBron to free agency. Its like flushing $200 million down the toilet.

I’m heavily in favor of any deal that sends Iguodala, Delembert and Stoudemire to the cavs in exchange for expiring contracts spare parts and draft picks. Sure the Cavs wouldn’t be factors in the draft for a couple years but the cavs know that late round picks usually aren’t worth the money anyway (Christian Eyenga pick?) More importantly, the cavs taking on so much salary is an expensive and potentially risky propesition.

But it doesn’t matter, the Cavs would essentially be bending a couple of rebuilding organizations over the table for their biggest talents simply because the other teams need to cut costs and try and get their payrolls down for the free agent bonanzas of 2010 and 2011. It’s a bold move but like the Saints’ onside kick, there is a method to the madness.

Every day the suns see Amar’e slipping away more and more, I think the deal sending him to the cavs is nearly done. The sixers seem to have backed off on shopping Iguodala but don’t be surprised if you hear rumors kick back up soon. Danny Ferry is no fool, I think he sees what I see.

LBJ

will retire in Cleveland, he will also make sure the Cavs bring home some championships before he calls it quits, he is not going anywhere and neither is he planning to.
his mansion tells it all, his signing off on all of the Cavs trade prospects says it all and the fact that his girlfriend is now in charge of their partnership with american signature inc. which is a huge furniture retailer in columbus pretty much means he is rooting himself pretty deep into Ohio’s soil.
so no worries cleveland, your pride and joy, your bread and butter is not going anywhere.
