Game #53 - New Jersey Nets at Cleveland Cavaliers Game Night Open Thread

New Jersey Nets at Cleveland Cavaliers, Feb 9, 2010 6:00 PM CST

2009/2010 NBA Regular Season
VS
4-4641-11
February 9, 2010
Quicken Loans Arena
7:00 PM et
Radio - WTAM 1100 / FSNOhio HD
Probable starters:
?? PG Daniel Gibson
Courtney Lee SG Anthony Parker
Jarvis Hayes SF LeBron James
Yi Jianlian PF J.J. Hickson
Brook Lopez C Shaquille O'Neal

Here's what we know.  The Nets are bad - really bad.  But they do try really hard and have given some of the better teams in the East fits lately.  That means the Cavaliers need to come out hot in the 1st Quarter and let New Jersey know that LeBron, Shaq and Co. plan on taking the 4th quarter off.

Devin Harris is definitely out for the Nets, and Delonte West is likely to find the bench for his ninth straight DNP as well.  But hey, Kiki thinks that Cavs are at full strength so who am I to argue with him?

One final thought, is a 37-game difference in the win column some kind of record?  If not, it should be!

3-in the Key

1.  The Cavaliers are off to their 2nd best 52-game start in team history(41-11).  The team record, set last year, is 42-10.  The Cavaliers are 26-4 in their last 30 games, best in the NBA.

2.  A win tonight would give the Cavaliers the longest winning streak in the NBA this season at 12 games.  The team record is 15 games.

3.  Since the start of the 2008-09 season, the Cavaliers are 61-5 at home, best in the NBA.  Only 6 teams in the last 35 years have recorded the best home record in the NBA in consecutive years.

I'd say..

Lopez is their best player after Harris

I'm Polish...what's your excuse?

We are short-handed

LeBron will play into the 4 th quarter unless we are up 20 to start the 4th…just a guess

Down 5 early….The Net are the kind of team you need to put away or they will make it tough all night…

I find it difficult to believe that NJ hasn’t committed a foul yet…I find it harder to believe that the Cavs aren’t taking advantage of NJ not contesting the paint

by cavslandrocks on Feb 9, 2010 6:30 PM CST reply actions

WOW

They have called 3 touch fouls on the Cavs, yet Z gets hammered no call….

These are the games that frustrate me...

about the Cavs, and LeBron specifically. All the joking around, etc. then they come out FLAT. Killer instinct is sometimes lacking…

That was exactly my point about the NYK game had the boot heel on the throat but wouldn’t crush the life out of them

It goes back to the playoffs last season too..

To me, the great difference between Kobe and LeBron is that very thing. Kobe wants to kill every team – best team, worst team, doesn’t matter. LeBron throttles down a bit. The team follows his mentality – which is why they have trouble maintaining intensity with a big lead at times.

Oh noes

We lead the NBA’s worst team by just 3! Whatever shall we do?

by WaveOcean on Feb 9, 2010 6:48 PM CST reply actions

We’re going to lose!!

by WaveOcean on Feb 9, 2010 6:48 PM CST up reply actions

get rid of the ball hog, blow up the team, and start from scratch

by cavslandrocks on Feb 9, 2010 6:49 PM CST up reply actions

It's not about winning or losing sometimes...

It’s how you are playing the game. The Cavs have done what they should do during this part of their schedule – beat inferior teams…

That said, they have developed some bad habits and the schedule gets increasingly tough the next two weeks.

that’s what some people call “showtime”

by WaveOcean on Feb 9, 2010 6:59 PM CST up reply actions

big block by shaq

big alley oop by lebron
big slam dunk by varejao

if there are any lakers/celtics/magic/hawks fans reading this blog and watching the game, I’m afraid you’re going to be disappointed

by WaveOcean on Feb 9, 2010 6:58 PM CST reply actions

steadily building a lead…Andy needs to be in the 6th man conversation

by cavslandrocks on Feb 9, 2010 6:58 PM CST reply actions

by the time this game is over, we’ll never want to see or hear Jarvis Hayes ever again

by WaveOcean on Feb 9, 2010 7:00 PM CST reply actions

Cavs struggle out of the timeout...

3 straight possessions end with Varajao shots. 1/3 ain’t bad, I guess

Ilgauskas cannot guard Lopez

by WaveOcean on Feb 9, 2010 7:07 PM CST reply actions

without Z’s 0-7 they’d be over 60%….LeBron only 6 attempts in the half

by cavslandrocks on Feb 9, 2010 7:08 PM CST reply actions

Really bad game by Ilgauskas so far…he can’t guard any Nets going inside

by WaveOcean on Feb 9, 2010 7:10 PM CST up reply actions

probably deserved but there should have been a foul against NJ on that mess

by cavslandrocks on Feb 9, 2010 7:12 PM CST up reply actions

Referee Clinic

I think the NBA is going to use this game to show how NOT to officiate a game. These guys are AWFUL!
