Around SBN: The Worst Team Ever Projected?

League executives who have been speaking with the Cavs and other sources also involved in talks say that whether or not the Cavs make a deal may come down to J.J. Hickson. Simply, several teams want Hickson included in any trade package and, to this point, the Cavs have been balking at many of them. Hickson is not untouchable, but the team has made it clear in talks that it would take a special offer to get him.

Good.

Exactly the right attitude to have regarding Hickson.

Agreed.

This is great news to me, knowing Danny Ferry fells the same way about Hickson and our current team as I do.

I wonder what a “special offer” would look like?

according to Windhorst

straight off an interview with Ferry (about a week ago) a true all star without a cumbersome contract and age was a factor…Ferry also said that if the other team couldn’t “overwhelm” him that he’d be happy to stand pat with the team he has…..not sure how much stock to put in that, son I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens

Z, Delonte, Hickson, 1st rounder…. for Amare Stoudemire.

Lakers: Gasol, Bynum, Odom. We have Shaq, Hickson, Varejao. We need a scoring option at PF.

thats way way too much to give up for Amare Stoudemire. Also your comparison to the Lakers doesn’t really fly since we dominated them in their home and handled them in Cleveland. We don’t need anything to beat the Lakers. A deadline deal can improve our chances of outlasting the gauntlet that is the NBA playoffs and make it to the finals in good shape, but we don’t have to make a trade.

I just read from Woj that Miami is willing to give up Beasly, Wright, and the expiring contracts of Jermain O’Neal and Richardson all for Amar’e. The Suns would take that over our offer.

Not to mention, he’s not worth West, Z, and JJ. And who knows, by the playoffs, Hickson might be a legit scoring option at PF. He’s not to shabby at the moment.

Thats what you Cav's fans are having trouble understanding.

All of your offers are second or third options for teams trying to make trades. For instance:
Antwan Jamison… If you guys don’t give up SOMETHING, other than Z(who ohh btw, u want the Wiz to release so you can re-sign him), then you will not be the WIz best option. Because we can get any expiring contract and then release the guy. And if you wanna get a ring before Lebron runs off to NY, Antwan Jamison is clearly a better option than a good prospect in JJ Hickson.

I don’t think Cavs’ fans are having trouble understanding any of this. No trade has gone down because not only has Cavs’ fans balked at trading a prospective solid player in JJ Hickson and an expiring contract (and draft picks!) to take on an expensive long-term contract, no matter who the player is. There simply isn’t a market for Jamison outside of Cleveland right now, so I put it to Washington to decide if they want to continue paying Jamison into next season or to clear the cap space. The Cavs don’t have to make a trade considering non of the other top teams are going to be able to make major trades this year (LA, Boston, Orl, Atlanta).

That's fine, as long as you believe your guys can beat Orlando and then Kobe.

And it isn’t out of the question for this Cav’s team to make it all the way. But I still think the Lakers are a better team and I am gonna be highly disappointed if Kobe lets Lebron crab dribble his way to a championship with an over-the-hill Shaq limping, cane in hand, behind him.

I like our position here.....

In the trade game you want to have someone to overwhelm you, rather than the other way around. Ferry can afford to be "choosey’. He does not absolutely “need” another player to get to ( and win) the finals. Yet, he is still open to making improvements in the short or long term. Smart. Very smart.

I would love to have Amare for JJ and some expiring contracts but I don’t see it happening. I think the trade deadline passes and the Cavs march on as is.

I'm Polish...what's your excuse?

Here is a deal that the Cavs shouldn't turn down even if it means trading Hickson..

Z,Hickson, and West for Jamison, Miller. Salaries are very close. Cavs should do this deal. Miller is an outside threat and at 6’8" will allow him to shoot over many shooting guards. The Cavs should only do this deal if the Wizards agree to release Z and then he can return to the Cavs.
