REPORT: Danny Ferry in line for promotion, become Cavs President

A small little nugget from Peter Vecsey at the New York Post -

Sources say plans are advanced to re-sign Cavaliers general manager Danny Ferry and promote him to team president. Assistant GM Chris Grant will be elevated to the top spot.

With all the LeBron James stuff, it has been easily forgotten that Ferry is in the last year of his deal.  There have been rumors on and off that the Cavaliers and Ferry have been in discussions on a new deal and that some kind of promotion would be involved.

The move described by Vecsey seems like a no-brainer to me, and provides even further the stability that all successful franchises need.

Congratulations, Danny Ferry!

I would say he’s the right man for the job and that he deserves it

there is one piece of unfinished business that Danny Ferry needs to do before he should get any promotions/extensions…. its a little contract for a player coming up this summer. After he signs LeBron… give Ferry whatever he wants.

I only like this if he still makes all the personal / roster decisions.

Interesting,,,,

That a NY reporter comes out with the news before one of our Cleveland beat writers. They must be sleeping on the job.

As for Lebron,I still think Lebron is going to sign a 3 year deal to stay here, but not do more years and we will be doing this all over again in a couple of years wondering if he will stay or not.

With the cavs so far over the cap for the next 2 years the reality is this team is made to win this year but they dont have the types of players to build a team around him other than to win this year and next year with these players.

After that they are old and average and dont have young stars to build around so I think lebron stays for 3 years and then bolts.

We saw against Milwaukee how avg the cavs can be without Lebron.

It wont happen, but theoretically NY can sign Lebron AND Bosh and then Lebron can talk Shaq into coming to NY for the mid level and Mcgrady has already said he would come back for the veterans minimum if the Knicks can sign 2 players, they also will have Gallinari and Chandler both whom are better than Hickson who is the best Cavs up and coming player.

Then NEXT year The knicks will lose Eddie Currys contract and be able to sign Carmello Anthony who is from NY and played college ball there.

Lebron, Bosh, Carmello in the front court with Tmac and Chandler in the back court and Shaq coming off the bench with Gallinari is better than anything the cavs can do in the next 2 years but I sitll think Lebron stays here.

If I were Ferry I would want to move out of the GM spot as well as he will take a lot of heat if they dont win this year and Lebron leaves. it would take a miracle to get the cavs out of their salary cap mess the next 2 years and still keep a championship type team. They will probably cut loose Delonte next year and then the following year what do you do with Moe Williams ? Everyone else will be really old in 2 seasons or they are spare parts that were brought in to win it this year and maybe next.

Even with all that they are stuck way over the salary cap to make major moves this year and next.

Lets hope they win it all this year.

Hopefully the new GM will have the magic Ferry has to make steal trades for All-Stars
