It would definitely be a tough rebuilding process but it might work to use next season to dump off a few servicable players with undesirable contracts to contenders for expiring contracts (like the Wizards did to us.) One good expiring contract off the top of my head is Erick Dampier. They're trying to get over the hump to win a title and might take a trade for him. Dump off some of these big contracts and make a push for Carmelo Anthony next year. If the Nuggets make another early exit next year he might want out, especially with Billups getting older. Other names to look at that jump out to me are TJ Ford (as a role player,) Tony Parker, Carl Landry, and David West.
