"The real poison of the NBA."

Don't know why so many people are outraged with LBJ & Miami, they got it all wrong!

People should be mad at LA for the theft of Pau Gasol!

Has the league not allowed the Gasol heist, we would not see this "Miami occurance" at all.

Of course, other superstars of the NBA also wants to win a ring [or 2] before their career is over.

But if you have LA monopolizing it, then it makes the league superstars join forces in 1 team as that's their only chance to also win.

Before the Gasol heist, there was more parity in the league.

With the Gasol theft, it really upset the balance in the NBA resulting to this current "great unbalance."

What's next, CP3, Melo, & Tim Duncan joining forces with Amare in NY not too long from now?

Or Brandon Roy & Kevin Durant joining forces with Derrick Rose, Boozer, & Noah in Chicago somewhere down the road?

Or some other star SG & SF joining Dwight & Jameer in Orlando?

LA then is the true poison of the NBA, they perpetuated all of this!

Have the Gasol thievery been not allowed, LA with Bynum, Kobe, & Odom would've still been very lethal yet there would be more balance & competition instead of LA being automatically the champions every year.

Who knows, LBJ then could've stayed in Cleveland knowing he has a shot with this current Cavs team.

It's about time people call-out LA, they have been under the radar for so many years, they have acquired superstars easily since the "Showtime Lakers" thereby greatly upsetting the balance in the NBA.

If they are allowed to continue to do this (as they NEVER stop & NEVER rest in acquiring superstars year after year) & they will surely continue to do so in years to come, then this "Miami occurance" will continue In the NBA.

the lakers never stole him

when Bynum went down for the season in 2008, the Lakers needed another big so they went after Gasol. The Grizzlies on the other hand were going nowhere and needed to rebuild. Everyone complained it was a steal but in fact they got multiple draft picks in recent years as well as Marc Gasol, who has been playing great for them so far. Last year they finished at around .500 and could very well make the playoffs this year with the Suns bound for decline.

Oh and I wouldnt call Pau a superstar. When the guy was with the Grizzlies, he couldnt even lead his team to one playoff win. The Lakers only have 1 superstar and that is Kobe Bryant. This pales in comparison to the Heat who just got 3 superstars, all in their prime.

Adam Morrison has more rings than Lebron, Bosh, and Wade combined?

Chris Bosh is a superstar now? Maybe superstar by association, but Chris Bosh isn’t among the top ten players in the NBA right now. Nothing against him as a player or as a complimentary piece of a team, but this nonsense about his superstardom didn’t begin until James and Wade made friends with him so publicly.

yeah he is

hes one of the best big men in the league by far. He may not be on Lebron or Wade’s level but he is still a superstar.

He's a superstar.

Think about it; with him the Raptors were competing for an 8-seed. When he went down they became a pathetic mess. He’s not on the level of LeBron, Wade, Kobe, Dwight, or any players like that but he’s a superstar without a doubt.

I live in Cincinnati. I'm a fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Cincinnati sports teams. Besides UC, I'm a Xavier fan for basketball. I also like the Ohio State Buckeyes for all sports.

My name is Tyler. So I guess now you know about me.

Jerry West

orchastrated that trade. Sent Pau to his old team knowing Kobe needed the other superstar. It was a HEIST!

The commisioner WANTS superpowered teams that can 3-peat like L.A. and the Heat since it makes the league more money...

No chance he would EVER discourage lopsided trades since that is his money-maker. David Stern wants as little balance as possible.

Interesting...

I think there is something to your theory. I also think the Celtic model of success (bringing in 3 stars in addition to their rising star Rondo) also pushed things in this direction.

Bottom line, you are going to have a highly “gentrified” NBA five or six haves and awhole bunch of havenots. The opposite of the succussive NFL where you can “franchise” your top player.

What would of happened

if Lebron played his heart out last year in the playoffs? I think he quit on purpose so he could use winning a title as an excuse for leaving Cleveland. If he almost won last year staying in Cleveland would of brought similar results this year. Now we are looking for people to blame, when free agents change teams all the time.

What I was thinking

He seemed disinterested in games 5 and 6. If Cleveland won the championship in 10 (and perhaps 09) and James decided to leave then he would have looked like the biggest wanker in sports history, but since they didn’t then it seems reasonable that he leave …………. You know, because all he wants to do is win (be a household name and make a billion bucks).
We were all witnesses to the pre game photo taking, the chucking powder in the air (which he ripped off of KG), the dancing in front of an opponents bench while blowing them out, talking in the third person and being a media whore. Now that Clevelands eyes are open after King James brought his douchebaggery to a new level we are all truly witnesses. Welcome to the club Cleveland.

Where Did It Go???

I didn’t know if I was the only one who saw it that way and thought i would get kiled for posting that but, glad I am not. I don’t know if everyone is aware of this but the whole decision thing, that was for charity, didn’t even give half the money that the hour long progam took in. Sponsor’s money collected was 6 million (well 3 million that nike matched) but the boys and girls club only got 2.5 million. ESPN donated time and the use of equipment so where did the rest of the money go? When people knocked him for doing the show, there was backlash cause " all the money is for charity" but they didn’t get all they money. Where did the money go?? I don’t know the answer but why is no one asking that question?

A few things you might be able to blame for these unions.

AAU basketball- The great players have been playing in the same AAU circles for years and have been raised as friends. They love each other so they want to unite as friends on a team.

The pressure to win titles or ruin your legacy- They feel like they absolutely need titles so they’ll unite to get them.

This “NBA unity” stuff- At all-star games and everything, the players are all supposed to be best friends and hold hands, not be rivals. Some rivalries stem from hatred. Jordan would never want to play with Bird or Isiah Thomas because they were huge rivals. Now the stars form little alliances and want to play together.

Unlike a lot of people I don’t care he left Cleveland it is his right that was collectively bargined for, its the way he made a mockery of the whole process. If you are going to leave, then do it like a man. I love the way the press had the story that he tried to get Bosh to join him, which was only done to make it look like he made a serious attempt to stay. When now we all know this plan for the 3 of them to join up was crafted long ago.

Lakers never stole Gasol

I don’t really understand why people are saying that.

I mean…people only see Kwame Brown being traded to Memphis, but Marc Gasol (who’s been playing really well) was traded as well. Even if this trade didn’t happen, Lakers would have done really well with Marc Gasol anyway. With Pau, the Lakers went into “win-now” mode. And Pau had wanted out of Memphis anyway.

As for why Lakers are able to amass superstars…well back in the Showtime era, a lack of cap rules made it easier for bigger markets to keep good teams. Plus, I don’t mean to sound like a jerk, but LA has good weather and hot chicks as well as the chance for celebrity status. Why wouldn’t athletes like to play there?

In any case, I feel sorry for Cleveland and other small markets that keep losing their stars to larger markets or cities in warm areas, but don’t blame the cities or the organizations in those cities.

And Jerry West in Memphis has nothing to do with this …

Blake: Thanks to you, I am damaged beyond repair!!

Sorry, this is LA homer garbage. That trade was a heist, and will always have been a heist and everyone else in the league resented the hell out of the gift that Jerry West gave the Lakers, and, frankly, they still do.

come on

when gasol came to LA, lakers fan were happy kobe was getting a decent player next to him after spending a few seasons alone.
Jamison this year was a higher profile player than gasol was then.
Gasol was like a David Lee status.
