Cavs Battle Back, Beat Bulls in Las Vegas Thriller, 81-80

The Cleveland Cavaliers, behind 21 points from J.J. Hickson and 20 from Pooh Jeter, including a game-winning three to go along with seven assists -  leading the Cavs in dishes for the third straight game - defeated the Chicago Bulls tonight in Las Vegas, after trailing by 17 points in the second quarter, to remain unbeaten in Summer League play at 3-0 with two games remaining.  J.J. has also been high scorer in all three games for Cleveland.

Christian Eyenga added ten for the wine-and-gold. along with 6 rebounds, while Danny Green led the way with seven boards.

The Cavs play Miami tomorrow.  Although the game will not include LeBron James, I think that it is fair to say that, of the five scheduled games that Cleveland faced this summer, the Heat game will be the one the Cavs most desperately want to win.  We shall see.

The Summer League wraps up on Sunday when Cleveland will take on the Milwaukee Bucks.

I agree that JJ is looking promising for next year, but he had better be. This is going to be his third year, he started a lot of games last year, and he is playing against a bunch of guys who will never even see the floor in a real NBA game.

The real pleasant surprise here is Pooh Jeter. This guy wants an NBA job in the worst way. Too bad we have a logjam in front of him.

On the downside, nobody is stepping up to fill the center slot, and it looks like Sasha Kaun will spend another year in Russia. It’s a shame as you can just imagine Chaka Kahn’s “I feel for you” blaring through the Q every time he steps foot on the floor.

I don’t truly think Jeter will be completely logjammed for a spot. I feel it is possible a trade will happen. I know its summer league, but I have a feeling the team would want to give him a shot this year (possibly starting at some point)

i really don’t see pooh doing much for the cavs, keep in mind this is summer league, the guy is really small (5’10" 175 ish) and I would gladly take Mo, Delonte, Boobie, or Telfair over him any day. perhaps is we were to move one or more of those guys he could find some room on the end of the bench but don’t expect Pooh Jeter to be the next starting PG

Agreed. I can’t see us keeping Delonte, and if we can somehow trade Mo, we’ll likely sign a more traditional point guard with upside that has put up modest numbers for a year or two. Pooh’s only real chance on this team seems to be third string, but he has certainly earned a closer look.

I see delonte being gone and I wouldn’t care if mo was gone if we got decent compensation. Yes, Pooh is 5’11’’ and maybe just under 180 pounds, but its generous to call Mo 6’1 and 190…so size wise, mo isn’t anything special either.

My point is more that i feel this team is going forward without delonte or Mo (at least i hope without mo). In this scenario, i see him getting a shot at some point.
