All of those people who are complaining about not throwing enough money at mid-level free agents like Matt Barnes and Kyle Lowry should be reminded at this link that we are in the same division as a team that threw 5 years and $32 million at Drew Gooden and thank their lucky stars that it was not us.

For Mo and Andy?

Hell no. I would imagine JJ would have to be in there for the Pacers to even think about it.

I live in Cincinnati. I'm a fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Cincinnati sports teams. Besides UC, I'm a Xavier fan for basketball. I also like the Ohio State Buckeyes for all sports.

My name is Tyler. So I guess now you know about me.

no. grainger is their franchise player… why would they get rid of him? even the Pacers are going to kick our ass this year. in this division, we are in a battle for last place with the pistons.

anyone else wondering what GM Chris Grant is thinking, and what is the plan? are we adding anyone to the team? has Grant given a press conference or an interview since the day after the decision?

He stockpiled a bunch of picks from the Lebron sign and trade and will either get cap relief from buying out Delonte or dump him to another team for an asset (e.g., Sessions)

In my opinion this team is going into rebuilding mode. Will be too difficult to get back on top with a dried up free agent market. Grant will have to use the trade exception, salary cap and picks wisely to get this team back into contention. Until then, brace yourself for a lot of losing.

i am not ready to accept that they will be all that awful. this may say more about my fragile psychological state than it does about the Cavs.

by DPS on Jul 22, 2010 8:19 AM CDT up reply actions

He's more than likely thinking

about stockpiling as many draft picks as possible and moving Antawn Jamison/Mo Williams at the trade deadline. Much like Boozer was here when the Cavs drafted Lebron, Hickson will be the guy they will try to compliment the next ‘star’ that comes in.

This team is going to struggle to not have one of the 5 worst records in the league. Their only hope now is that the ping-pong ball bounces their way and they get a Top 2 draft pick. Then it is up to Grant to make a good decision in drafting, something the Cavs have never had much luck in.

Honestly, the Cavs have not been that bad in drafting players. Of course, they have had some busts but every team has bust picks. If you look at their last 10 years in draft picks, first round and second round by the Cavs, most of them are still in the league. The 2 players we should have never traded away were Jamal Crawford and Brandon Haywood.

Third one we shouldn’t have traded-Shannon Brown. He would most certainly be the starting 2 guard if he were still with the team.

rumor has it , the Pacers are trying to move him for a PG. Hes expensive and they just drafted Paul George

From Windhorst Twitter: “Matt Barnes has tough choice. Come to CLE for a little more $ or play with contender. Right now, sources say, he’s leaning toward contender”

Remember the Pre-LeBron days when we had to overpay for free agents? They’re back.

Is this accurate?

In his seven years as a Cleveland Cavalier, Lebron James was paired only once with a fellow all-star in Mo Williams (2009). That was as an injury replacement to Chris Bosh.

Ilgauskas made the team in 2005. Got that from this article. Good read. Shows how Lebron’s teammates stacked up against Magic’s.

interesting…I was curious about the PER for players that started to play for lebron compared to before. I didn’t use shooting % because lebron is good at creating open shots so a guy like Delonte or Parker would be open more.

It is interesting though how lebron has always talked about making guys better but out of the last 4 significant additions we got, only one improved on the PER of his last full season…that was Mo williams improving from 17 to 17.2…and then dropping again to 16.1 this past season. Delonte stayed the same, Jamison Dropped, and Parker dropped…

I’m hoping some team shows interest in Shaq. He wants to do a sign and trade as well since he can get more money that way. It really seems like Grant’s hands are tied right now.

College basketball just became more interesting...

Mo Williams could be the next player to move. He’s cancelled all his events this weekend. He had a Black Tie event Saturday and a Golf Outing for The Boys and Girls Club on Sunday. His reasoning is “issues in Cleveland”.

Think we can beat the Lakers to Matt Barnes?

does it really matter? IMO he is overrated and his potential is maxed out.

Not a good move if we do

unless the plan is to move him in the future for picks.

Cavs have shown they are in rebuilding mode at this point.

by Hardcore Legend on Jul 22, 2010 6:21 PM CDT up reply actions

I think it will be a great move to trade Mo Williams, I think Mo Williams will be a bust in an uptempo offense. First off, he is not a great distributor, too much of a shooter, and really can’t penetrate to the hole other than maybe driving around the free throw line and shooting it almost as a desperation or a floater. The Cavs definitely will need to get picks in return for Mo Williams but they also need to get a young prospect or 2 that maybe was drafted within the last 2 years that has mad skills and has huge potential. I’ve heard of course this was while back but Portland was interested in Mo Williams, I’m sure their attention will turn to CP3 now. But if somehow if Cavs could it Jarydd Bayless that would be awesome. The guy looked really quick and looks to be scorer who can penetrate the hole.
