Fernandez could be available. Could the Cavs work out a deal?
The Portland Trailblazers are willing to trade Rudy Fernandez. I know the Blazers have quite a bit of interest in Mo Williams. Now we have Ramon Sessions to hold down PG. Since SF is our biggest weakness I say we should try to make a deal for him with Mo as the centerpiece. He's young, can hit the 3 and is an athletic player on the wing. Perfect for an up tempo offense. I'd be happy with giving up Mo for him. I haven't found Rudy's salary but I think Mo's salary is around 9 million dollars for next year. We'd probably have to give up more than Mo for him but it might work out with some throw-ins. Thoughts? Ideas?

If you're going to deal with Portland
the best you could likely hope for is Batum and Przybilla. Przy is beyond injured and would only be valuable as an expiring contract, to get you out of paying Mo Williams. Batum is real talent, comes with a high ceiling, but could very well fizzle (and he was injured for the best part of 2010). But Portland thinks Batum has all star talent, and he might pay dividends if you’re extremely lucky. Otherwise, expect a few sexy picks to be involved in that trade.
(also note that I doubt Portland will trade Batum for anything less than a stud, regardless of what he’s really worth)

I thought Przybilla too would have to be included in any trade for Mo Williams. Your right there is no way the Cavs will get Batum. But I would be very happy if the Cavs could get Fernandez, Przybilla, and Bayless for Mo Williams and Parker. I really like Bayless, I happened to follow him when Roy was out and he really seemed like he was scoring PG.
That article really leaves him open to any team wanting a SF and he seems more than willing to go to a team (CAVS) that he will be a starter and have a major role in the offense, so he shouldn’t mind coming to Cleveland. Seems like a perfect match imo.
But where are you hearing the the Blazers have interest in Mo?

Windhorst actually said that the Blazers had showed some interest through Twitter.
Rudy Fernandez is more of a SG anyways. That’s what he played when he was so big overseas.

Ah the infamous Windhorst tweets. I know ESPN isn’t the end all for sports news, but I hadn’t seen anything on the rumor mills.
Sure Rudy is a SG, but that still leaves a glaring hole at SF. I’ve already embraced the idea that we’ll be small and quick in the backcourt, and smallish yet energetic in the frontcourt. Rudy is a fresh face, new start, and potential star.

I’d love that trade but I don’t think Portland would go for it. Portland is looking at some real value for Rudy. I don’t know if Portland is interested in Mo, I know they were but that was before the NBA draft and before they fired the GM. Now with the new GM in place who knows what he is interested in and who knows if the Cavs are interesting in Rudy. Supposedly the Cavs are done at acquiring guards and Boobie will be getting a lot of playing time next year. I think as previously mentioned Rudy is looking to get big time minutes and I don’t think he will get many minutes in Boston and Chicago. Which leaves NY and as we know NY is willing to overpay in any trade.
Parker/rudy
Hell anything to get rid of Parker. That was one of Mike browns screw ups ! #2 guard that didnt even avg 8pts /game & couldnt defend? So so bench player @ best! Not a dam starter.

I was watching Cavaliers Access last night, probably an old episode that I never saw, but anyway Byron Scott was describing the Princeton offense. He was saying that there really is no point guard in the offense and that both guards are essentially a PG. If the one PG gets trapped then the SG should be able to run the offense. The point I’m making is maybe Anthony Parker would not be bad in this offense. I remember a couple years ago in Toronto when Toronto did not have a viable PG, Parker ran the offense and he ran the offense pretty good, I don’t know his exact statistics but I do remember he had at least 6+ assists a game while running the point. Most likely Parker will get traded by midseason but in the meantime he will probably remain on the roster.
He's getting interest from Boston, New York and Chicago.
I don’t think any of those teams can offer anything as good as Mo.

Which is not good for the Cavs. Let’s see, Mo can’t play defense, streaky shooter, not much of a leader, and stinks in crunch time. If we can get some big time value for Mo Williams, I’m thrilled.
you just described antawn jamison, except he is even less desirable and has a huge contract.
I root for Cleveland and anyone playing the Miami Heat
Byron Scott thinks Antawn Jamison will flourish in the Princeton offense. I think they were together as a player and coach on some team and Jamison put up big numbers in the offense. I have to disagree with you about Antawn Jamison, before last year, Jamison was clutch in the playoffs especially against the Cavs. In years past, Jamison was unstoppable against us. It just that Mike Brown would not use Jamison properly and the offense had to run through Lebron and oddly enough I don’t remember Lebron passing the ball to Jamison. I do remember a lot of turnovers and wasting the shot clock by Lebron.
Jamison needs the ball at some points in the game to be effective. With LeBron there he just didn’t get the ball as much as he needs.’
It seems like a lot of possessions last year in the playoffs were basically LeBron standing at the top of the key dribbling the ball until the shot clock ran out and he had to shoot a contested fadeaway. That’s not good offense. If Jamison gets the ball a decent amount he’ll put up 20+ per game.

I agree. Brown was terrible at using all his players, especially Jamison. Jamison never played under Byron Scott but he played under Eddie Jordan in Washington. Jordan developed this version of the Princeton O in NJ with Scott, when Scott was HC and he was the Offensive Asst. Jordan’s offense is pretty much the same and Jamison was his best in it (except his one year in Dallas as 6th man of the year, but that was with Nash during his prime)

I dont understand the Mo for Rudy idea because Rudy makes less than $2M a yr and Mo makes $9M. Why would Portland take on Mo just to get rid of Rudy when they would have to include other players?

They really like Mo, or at least they did.
If that interest is still there, it’s a possibility. We need to fill a gap at the 3, they need to fill a gap at the 1. Everyone else in the trade would just be salary fillers.
What about something like Mo+a pick for Rudy+Camby? I think I’d take that as a Cavs fan but I’m not sure the Blazers would like it.

Actually Portland is loaded at the 1 in fact rumors state that are debating on getting rid of Armon Johnson who they drafted this year or Patty Mills. I think if Portland is interested in Mo Williams, it is because he is a good ballhandler and can spread the floor. They need players to spread the floor and Mo Williams would help them if they acquired him. Which I personally don’t understand why they don’t play Rudy more because supposedly Rudy is a good shooter, his defense and ballhandling must be lack to desire. It is my belief Portland also runs the Princeton offense and the Cavs would only have desire for Rudy as 3 and not a 2. Which brings up the Rudy would play the 3 if traded to the Cavs and Cavs need a 3.
I think the best deal available...
Is Andre Iguodala.
Philly is shopping his really huge contract. And the Sixers drafting Evan Turner could probably adds to the possibility of putting him to the trading market. If there are considerable deals.
Mo Williams + Anthony Parker for Andre Iguodala should be good. With the signing of Ramon Session, Mo could be expendable too. Philly could use him as their PG since they lack depth (Lou Williams and Jrue Holliday are good PG’s but a veteran, proven PG would probably be helpful for them) on that spot. And with Parker’s contract ending this year, and Mo’s in the second year they will successfully get away from Andre’s huge contract.
The catch, Iguodala will make 12-15 mil. in 4 more years. A pretty high price tag i think. But the positives of it. Cleveland gets a 26 year old guy who’s proven that can shoot, drive and defend. He’s like LeBron in a sense, but maybe 1 or 2 levels below. But he can fit in that rebuilding stage since he’s still young. And Cavs gets a star player that they can go through.
just an opinion.
I like the idea of getting Iggy, even with his contract.
He’s a really athletic player, and he’s young.
I just don’t think Mo+AP is enough to get him.
How about the trade exception to give them cap relief and young, cheap talent? Well, I guess the only young, cheap talent we have is JJ. So maybe the trade exception and a couple picks?

someone has to bring this to Cavs management.
Iggy could be the replacement for LeBron. He is as young as LBJ is with pretty much the same skill set albeit smaller and less “star power”. I think Mo + Parker would be enough. The lone fact that they will be getting rid of that hefty paycheck and getting a quality value in return, and an expiring contract, and another one in the next year would be enough for this deal to go through. But a 2nd round pick wouldnt hurt I guess.
now Cleveland has to sign free agent another big man to help out Varejao, Hollins, Samuels and they will be competitive, not championship quality but competitive to start. I really think Ryan Hollins will be better at PF, when he’s helping out on defense and not be the first one to take on the post player.
Slide Antawn to SF and there is a solid first 5. Or until someone is willing to take him i guess.
Sessions
Iguodala
Jamison
Hickson
Varejao
Gibson
Eyenga/Green
Moon/Graham
(Hollins if playing PF)/Powe/Samuels
Hollins/ FA Big man (Earl Barron could be a solid back up, Lou Amundson maybe)
looking at the lineup, that’s pretty good.
