The Decision - A LeBron James Open Discussion
The time has come, Cavaliers fans. At some point during the next 2 hours we will find out what LeBron James is going to do with his basketball future. Talk about the show, about the 'Misery Montage' and most importantly talk about The Decision.
Remember, whatever happens tonight, the sun will rise tomorrow, and the Cavaliers behind Dan Gilbert and Chris Grant will be back. They are committed to winning in Cleveland even if LeBron James is not.

LeBron = Cavalier. Relax and enjoy the show. Cleveland comes out on top for once.
Art Modell gives me a hard one
Tom WIthers is reporting that the Heat have pulled the welcome ad for LBJ that they had ready to run in tomorrow morning’s paper. I have no idea what that means.
It means that it was preemptive to run a welcome ad before anything happens.

I still remember how much it sucked when Shaq abandoned us. I hope he resigns with you guys. I’d love to see next year with LBJ in Cleveland, the new Miami, Orlando, Chicago, and Boston all fighting it out…I’m in your corner
Thanks for the kind words, sir.
It would definitely sting for him to leave us. Ohio sports are full of pain.
*I say Ohio sports because, as some of you know, I’m not from Cleveland. I live down in Cincy but I pull for the Cavs because I think of them as representing the whole state of Ohio.
I understand
how it is man…don’t get me wrong, when the seasons starts I will hate the Cavs, but right now, I’m just another fan who can relate….I guess we’ll all know in a minute.
I hope LeBron returns guys.
I don’t want the Heat standing in the way of the Lakers’ 3-peat. =D

I think a great question to ask LeBron would be if he could comment on the irony of basically promising to end our misery, yet he’s giving us the greatest heartbreak ever.
Stuart Scott is a prick. “God bless those people in Ohio…” Cram it, Scott.

I hate the steelers the way a mother loves a child.
You know
It says a lot to me that people are willing to put asterisks on titles for things other than cheating. It makes me wonder how retarded people to are to try and fool everyone into thinking they can ever be made happy.
Now, injuries are one thing, but I question if you’re old enough to even be in middle school when you imply every “legit” title team needs to have had every meaningful player drafted. Oh, and I do believe you have to “buy” the players you draft too; the CBA does include minimum salaries of around 400k for rookies. I know, you think it’s “cheap” so it’s not “buying”. Cute. Better to believe that than to let common sense get in the way right.
Also, I guess according to your logic, buying or trading for the RIGHT players doesn’t matter now either, huh?

be as respectful as lebron was to his competition
so in other word do silly dances and clown on people that play for lottery teams
That’s all the more reason why I had no respect for him and am actually thrilled he is gone – his antics put him in a negative light – that’s why he’ll NEVER match up with Jordan, Bird, Johnson, Chamberlin, Jabaar, Russell, etc. – i.e. the real GREATS!
he will never match up to jordan with rings
but jordan will never match up to lebron’s pregame antics. knockin his lil buddies over like bowling pins! imaginary baseball? mj just cant compete with that.

seriously, I don’t visit this blog very often, and its not because I’m not a cavs fan (I still love Tractor Traylor), its because of all these fucking trolls.
I hate the steelers the way a mother loves a child.
The new Cavs slogan!
“Win a ring WITHOUT the king!”
And yes, it can be done – we need real winners who play like a team, not quitters, whiners, and wanna-bes like the former Cavalier who just announced his decision after all this buildup.
He makes Jim Thome, Carlos Boozer, and even Art Modell look like choir boys compared to LeBron – he is public enemy no. 1 in Cleveland now, and likely forever.
Let’s win without him – the Cavaliers teams under Lenny Wilkens were arguably better than the ones led by LeBron – if not for Jordan, the Cavs would have likely won at least one.
And for the record, “loyal” should NOT be in his vocabulary. Personally, I think, “good riddance” – I always thought he was overrated (he’s not Jordan, Bird, Magic, or even Kobe), and he and his friends are not guaranteed to win anything in Miami, especially since most of the rest of the roster will be average players at best.
What will be interesting is whether he tries to pacify the Cavaliers organization by working out a sign-and-trade so that the Cavaliers get something for him.
Regardless, even if he wins down in Miami, it won’t lead to him having a legacy like Jordan – that could have only been done here in Cleveland, being essentially his hometown that hasn’t won a major championship in 46 years. He’s talking about “championships” being all the same – it isn’t, but he obviously didn’t get that.
Ask yourself – how much more help does he need – he had two stacked rosters the last two years, yet faltered both times (and he laid down as much as anyone against Boston – there is NO question on that).
Like I said, good riddance – go Cavs. Let’s win a ring WITHOUT the king!

No, you were entertaining in a way. After all, the “village idiot” position WAS open, and after your audition? Nobody else came close.
Congrats. You got the job!
whatever dude.

Well you just cheer until your little heart is content. And don;t come crying to us if they fail to deliver :D
im not a heat fan
i just want to watch them 3 play all 82 games as teammates.
it will be an epic fail
no one is going to sign for the min when these fool gm’s are handing out millions to whatever corpse is out there.
He had better supporting casts than you give him credit for, as most NBA analysts mentioned (Mo Williams, Delonte West, Shaq, Jamison) – Ferry bent over backwards to accommodate him; he certainly didn’t sit on his hands and do nothing. It just didn’t work out, mostly because of Coach Mike Brown (probably Ferry’s biggest mistake – look at how he managed the rosters; that’s why it looked like LeBron had no one around him – Mo dominated the first half of Game 6 against Boston, yet he handed the game to LeBron in the second half, and the Cavs were eliminated. Powe was no factor as he was expected to be, Hickson got next-to-no playing time in the series, and Z came back to be a cheerleader, though I doubt that was his idea. That was Brown. Add in LeBron laying down in the Boston, along with some inconsistent performances by the supporting cast, and that’s how they lost when they were expected to win).
Still, the Lakers, Magic, Celtics, and others aren’t going anywhere. And, believe it or not, neither are the Cavaliers. Best of luck to you – enjoy LeBron’s skills and antics like we have the last 7 years. Just know that he could jump ship 5 years from now (LA, NY, etc.) if Miami falters.
ferry did some moves
just for the sake of not losing lebron, and he made a mistake. shaq???
He wanted size, and most accounts indicated that LEBRON wanted Shaq here – whatever LeBron wanted, Ferry did for the most part (he didn’t get Stoudemire, partly b/c he would have had to give up Hickson, and where would the Cavs be now if that deal had gone through – Stoudemire and LeBron likely both leave, and you have no Hickson, who is a pretty solid piece to rebuild with, though if you watched the playoffs, you’ll think Hickson wasn’t that good, but that’s mostly b/c Brown didn’t play him as much as he should have. That was still Ferry’s biggest mistake, sticking with Brown. Most reports indicate that Gilbert wanted Brown gone after last season, but Ferry somehow convinced Gilbert to keep Brown around. This time around, Gilbert wasn’t taking “no” for an answer, and I think that’s partly why Ferry left).
by cavaliersfan on Jul 8, 2010 11:17 PM CDT up reply actions
YES – how did LA do it, Miami before them, San Antonio, Detroit – the “king” has been in the league for 7 years, yet teams without the king have won every year that they have been in the league, so it’s certainly doable. Miami is guaranteed nothing – three players don’t make up a team, no matter how good they are or are purported to be – LeBron is overrated, Bosh disappears at times, and Wade is the only one who actually knows what it takes to win a championship, but if he has to carry most of the load, he’ll break down sooner rather than later.
That’s one other thing to keep in mind about LeBron – he too will disappear on plays, almost like his stamina won’t sustain him. Being that their bench is purported to be pretty weak (weaker than most teams, including Cleveland’s) those three are going to have to carry an extraordinary load for a while – can they handle it? Don’t be surprised if they don’t handle it as well as you might think.
I don’t see an S & T happening; Miami barely has the assets to pull one off for Bosh. No way that they can pull two off.
As NBA analyst Brad Sellers said on WEWS (Ch. 5) in Cleveland, it takes 12 players to win an NBA Championship, not one (or 3, like Miami is trying to do – they’re going to need more than Wade, Bosh, and James, unless they are on some out-of-this-world hormones that allow them to play all 48 minutes of every game at a sustained superhigh level – yeah, right).
by cavaliersfan on Jul 8, 2010 11:20 PM CDT up reply actions
Not a serious injury...
I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. I just want him to feel some pain like we are feeling.
Yeah, so much for LeBron’s “injured” elbow – strange that nobody has mentioned that recently. Think it might have been a rouse to cover up his poor, giving-up effort against Boston.
When the going gets tough (i.e. falter in the playoffs below expectations), the not-so-tough (LeBron) get going to Miami. :-)
by cavaliersfan on Jul 8, 2010 11:21 PM CDT up reply actions
So, who gets to take the last shot every game in Miami?
Blake: Thanks to you, I am damaged beyond repair!!
I’d take him – he probably thinks, what, I’m not good enough to be on this team with these 3-so-called superstars. Yes, I know the cap room plays into it, but probably, Beasley wants to make his own name and show he’s no bust, and he certainly can’t do that playing in 3 shadows who will probably wrestle for playing time and who is the greatest of them all.
And to think LeBron will have to play 2nd fiddle to Wade, since Miami is Wade’s court, NOT LeBron’s, nor will it ever be. So much for LeBron’s legacy. Match up with Jordan’s legacy – crap, he can’t even match up with Kobe or even Shaq’s legacy, LOL!

"Facebook is bad news. It and Jason Donald both crush dreams." - JRontherim
I think that irks people the most – not so much the fact that he left, as he had the right to go, but the way he drug it on, put on this ridiculous production like he’s some movie star or is earning an Emmy, then waste 25 minutes, with the last 5 minutes having Gray ask about 10-12 questions about everything involving this “process” before finally asking LeBron where he is heading.
Then, in front of a national TV audience, he tells the whole world that he’s going to play in Miami because “he respects the game of Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade more,” (disrespecting his teammates in the process, and he did have quality rosters the last two years that Kobe, Jordan, and the other greats would have turned into champions, or at the very least, made the Finals). And, on top of all of that, LeBron talks about “loyalty” – I think he needs to look up the word “loyalty” and learn what it actually means before actually talking about it.
The Cavs bent over backward to fill this roster with talent, was proactive in FA and on the trade market, marketed LeBron like no other team has done for any other player (even LA with Kobe and Miami with Wade likely couldn’t match the marketing campaigns the Cavs did for LeBron), yet LeBron pulls the string along, plays around with the Cavs and everyone else, getting tons of publicity for himself, and then, doesn’t even have the courtesy to phone Gilbert and tell him that he was heading to Miami – the Cavaliers have to find out on the “special” and be pretty much embarrassed in front of a national, if not world, audience.
That’s why Gilbert’s letter was spot-on and why the Cavaliers still have hope that they will win (and hopefully, before the King does, and I don’t think Miami is a shoe-in for the title, just like Cleveland wasn’t with James despite the hype).
James also handicapped Cleveland by playing this ridiculous game of “choose the team” by not letting the Cavaliers know what he was planning (probably all along), as virtually every top-tiered free agent and trade possibility is gone, and the Cavs are close to the max. in contracts because of bending over backwards to attempt to accomodate the overrated king (Jamison – major contract and loss of draft picks, etc.).
Fortunately for the Cavaliers, Byron Scott, a quality coach who has NBA Championship rings (something LeBron doesn’t have), decided to come here without having a guarantee that LeBron was staying. With Scott and Gilbert (who sounds livid about LeBron’s way of announcing that he was joining the Heat) leading the way, the Cavs will bounce back and be able to compete for a title, probably sooner than most expect.
I do hope that the fans of Cleveland and the Cavaliers come out and support this team this upcoming season and in the future and not desert this team because the overrated king is no longer here. Maybe it won’t be sold out each night, but don’t desert this organization because the overrated and cowardly “chosen one” had to run to Miami in hopes that Bosh and Wade can deliver the king a ring because he can’t do it with quality rosters on his own (why is he called the “king” if he needs that much help to win. Did Jordan, Bird, Johnson, Kobe, and Shaq need that MUCH help to win rings. The king is overrated and forever will be, even if he gets lucky enough to win a championship in Miami, which I certainly hope he doesn’t),
Go Cavs – win a ring without the king!

now you will get to take part in the most tasty post season tradition
the annual drinking of lebron jame’s tears when he is prematurely eliminated from the playoffs. its a heady draught
its not all bad cleveland.
The Lakers, the Celtics, the Magic, the Bulls, the Cavs, and everyone else can beat the crap out of LeBron and the Heat – don’t you think that LeBron (and even Bosh and Wade for that matter) have this big bullseye on their team, this so-called “triumvirate” that every team will be gunning for them each night.
Most thought that the Cavs had a target on their backs this past season or two – just think what Miami will have to go through for the next 4-5 years, and their bench likely won’t be as strong or as experienced as Cleveland’s bench, not with the limited cap room the Heat will have.
Like I said, Miami is guaranteed NOTHING, so those LeBron tears of not winning a ring are certainly a realistic possibility.

I’m a big boy and I can handle it, but what if my 12 year old son is a die hard Cavs fan? He’s not going to be reading FTS for sure.
Blake: Thanks to you, I am damaged beyond repair!!
I know. This place has such a bad repuation because of crap like this.

When will you move on? Why are you even here? As you sit here feeding pathetically on the misery of another team’s fans, you’re in no position to tell anyone else how they should feel or behave.

but there's nothing you can do
lebron is gone. :D
And you’re still here, licking up other people’s misery.

Think about this...
Chris Bosh cost us LeBron. If he would have come to Cleveland, LeBron would have too. :(
Ok so we've got 9 million in cap space, 13 million if we release Delonte..
That gives us some wiggle room, trade Jamison for some young guys and let’s rebuild
Draft picks, draft picks, draft picks. That and some cap room.
CP3 wanting to play for his boy Byron Scott next year? Possibly.
But we build the best roster then have CP3 come. Tank it next year, go for the #1 pick and get Harrison Barnes.
This was a joke, by the way.
I’d like to trade for some lottery picks and maybe get some luck to get a high pick.
Perhaps, but Paul has played under and appreciates Scott because he knows him as a coach; LeBron is the unknown commodity. Sure, LeBron not here might sway Paul to stay away, but I’d think that Scott’s resume should be more enticing than LeBron’s.
Besides that, how can Paul get paid more than a little over league minimum with 3-so-called superstars in Miami – they’re going to take up 70-90% of cap space. If Paul wants to play for peanuts in the prime of his career, perhaps he’ll go to Miami, but if he wants more and to play under a proven coach who has won Championships as a player and have taken teams to Finals multiple times, Cleveland is not totally out of the question.

I hope Delonte finds his way back to the Celtics somehow. Imagine how badly that would mess with LeFraud’s head in the playoffs next season?
Please let this happen.

I could see that. “Hey, LeBron, you like pounding your chest after winning a game? I like pounding your mom after winning a game.”
Boston fans would finally get a chance to use the “Who’s your daddy?” chant.

yes
but it wond be hard for them to recruit some good players.
That’s what I mean – the triumvirate and what else. The Heat bench against the Cavaliers bench likely wouldn’t be a contest. Unless that triumvirate can play All-Star basketball for 48 minutes in 82 games + playoffs, the Heat aren’t as sure of a lock for the title as some are thinking.
Some like to say that LeBron didn’t have a supporting cast in Cleveland – do 2 superstar players and a lot of inexperienced and average-at-best players going to make a better supporting cast? I doubt it.

Windy has a new article up re: Cavs plans moving forward. It doesn’t sound like they intend any sort of meaningful rebuild at all. Check it here: http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2010/07/life_without_lebron_will_pose.html
LeBron did a real nice job of stringing everyone along, in effect making it more difficult for Grant & Gilbert to react to the FA market. Everyone else has basically been signed, so the Cavs were kind of left out in the cold.
Blake: Thanks to you, I am damaged beyond repair!!
It would have been nice to think that they might have said at some point “Are you re-signing? If not, we need to go out and find someone to replace your ass.”
Blake: Thanks to you, I am damaged beyond repair!!
that would have offended his majesty.
seriously, i feel bad for the cavs but lebron has been a mega chode since he came into the league. i know that was hard to see as he was on your team and was amazing, but he has been this big of a jerk the whole time. now you know why everyone hates him.
I seen it for the time he was in Cleveland, and I was a Cavaliers fan, but I couldn’t stand LeBron from his time at St. V-St. M – I thought he was arrogant, overrated, and narcissistic – it’s all about him and nothing else.
And personally, I don’t think it’s about winning either; it’s about his brand image and his time in the spotlight. If he wins championships, that’s great; if not, that’s okay too, because “I’ve always been a winner.” (Lebron’s own quote that’s he’s used on several occasions, including on Thursday night).

I honestly don’t begrudge a player choosing to play for a different team when his contract is up. I really don’t. You’re a free agent — it’s your decision.
It’s either the outright lying (Thome) or the ridiculous and needless charade (James) that makes it intolerable.
Blake: Thanks to you, I am damaged beyond repair!!
+2 – exactly – this is why LeBron is right up there and even passes Thome and Modell. He is Cleveland public enemy #1, and likely will always be there.
I have just six words: “Win a ring without the king!”

Yes, but I remind people once again that LeBron James did not take the entire freaking team. We will have basketball in Cleveland in November. Art Modell’s sin against Cleveland is far more egregious than anything LeBron has done.

+1 – already better than LeBron in my book. Build around him, Mo, Varajeo, and Hickson, reincorporate Gibson back into the offense (something Brown never did), incorporate Green into a bigger role, if Eyenga comes over this year, have him fit into the offense as well, add a piece or two (perhaps if West is traded), and go from there.
With that roster, a playoff appearance isn’t out of the question, especially when the lower seeds of the East are only around .500. Then, you go from there accordingly.
