Manny Harris Waived, Mychel Thompson Gets Last Roster Spot
The Cavaliers made a relatively surprising move on Thursday afternoon by announcing that Manny Harris has been waived and Mychel Thompson will be the 15th man on the roster.
Mychel Thompson and Manny Harris were competing for the last spot as backup SG on the Cavaliers roster throughout the abbreviated preseason. Unfortunately for Harris, he suffered a foot injury and has been unable to participate in training camp and preseason games. From what I hear, he is still a few weeks away from being able to play. I really liked the potential that Manny showed last season and think he deserved a shot. I guess the Cavaliers front office disagreed.
The Cavs roster currently sits at the designated 15 players and will remain that way unless there are further roster transactions. Hopefully we'll get a statement from Byron Scott and Chris Grant to better explain why they chose to go with Thompson over Harris.
Editor Note: I posted this a little while ago and have now given it more thought. I don't like this move at all. Mychel Thompson showed me very little in the preseason games. Granted, I am not at training camp practices to see him, but from what I saw, it was pretty "meh". Manny Harris showed that he could be pretty useful for an NBA team. Don't like this move at all.

If you’re a SG and getting waived by the Cavs, I’d imagine your NBA life is going to be very short.

any thoughts on picking up Mickael Pietrus? He just got waived and might help our 2 guard situation

Yeah, sure why not? He plays good defense. Don’t know if he’d want to come to Cleveland over a contender…but it’s probably worth a shot.

I especially liked when this Thompson guy got blocked twice in a row on three point shots during the preseason game in Detroit. Who does that?
But who replaces him?

the 15th roster spot is never something to fret over too much. More than likely, this spot gets rotated in between waiver pick ups and/or D-League transactions.
Manny Harris
Chris Grant and Byron Scott were stupid to re-sign an old guy like Anthony Parker and cut Manny Harris, a young guy with lots of potential. He has good size for a guard, is fast, can shoot from the outside, and can penetrate, draw the defense to him, then dish to an open teammate. This is an IDIOTIC move and I bet Manny Harris will become a quality player and make the Cavs regret this action. It makes me sincerely doubt the intelligence of Grant and Scott if they get rid of a young guy who might become a good player for years. We need to build around young guys like Irving, Thompson, Samuels, Eyenga, and Harris. Anthony Parker is a good player and a good guy but he’s old and will be out of the league in a year or two. Manny Harris might still be in the NBA ten years from now.

news in that MAnny had a foot injury related to a freeze burn from new Hi tech Nike ice baths. He won’t be ready to play for a while
