Former Cavs Coach Mike Brown To Coach Lakers

Yes, that Mike Brown. The former head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers is seemingly next in line to coach the Los Angeles Lakers. Check out the report HERE

Brown was the head coach of the Cavaliers from 2005-2010 and was fired following the loss to the Boston Celtics in the 2nd round of the 2010 playoffs. During his tenure with Cleveland, the defensive minded coach had a relatively impressive list of accomplishments. His Cavaliers teams reached the 2007 Finals and posted back-to-back 60+ win seasons in '09 and '10. He compiled an overall regular season record of 272-138 (.663) which ranks 5th all-time in win percentage. Brown was also honored with the 2009 NBA Coach of the Year Award. Only a year later, he was relieved of his duties and worked this past season as an analyst for ESPN. Fast forward one more year and Mike Brown is the replacement for the legendary Phil Jackson.

This is a surprising move for the Lakers organization as many assumed Brian Shaw would be simply be promoted from assistant to head coach. Cavs fans have had the most experience with Brown as a head coach so what say you?  Does this make you root for the Lakers more or less? Personally, I'd like to see Brown do well, so I am tempted to casually root for him. Is this a good choice for the Lakers? I honestly do not know. It is an interesting selection, but the Lakers must have really liked something about him to go away from Shaw. This doesn't directly impact the Cavaliers, but it is certainly interesting nonetheless.

Greetings. Came to see you guys perspective...

…on Mike Brown becoming our coach. It seems that Jim Buss, (son of Laker owner Jerry Buss) is opening the JIM BUSS era in his own way (I’m-my-own-man-this-ain’t-daddy’s-team-no-more).

I only know a couple things about Coach Brown: 1) he knows how to win 60+ games in the regular season; 2) he found a way to co-exist (if not lead) and have success with a media superstar; 3) and he did it in Cleveland no-less (as opposed to Hollywood). I figure, Brown brings his game, his personality, and the fact that he has ZERO TIES to Phil Jackson… and give Coach OUR resources… and well, we can’t go terribly wrong.

(What’s funny, is in LA, a lot of us thought Byron Scott would eventually get the Laker job.)

CAVS… HAVE A GREAT DRAFT (and parlay your picks into 3-5 good bodies to compete in the East). The country is pulling for you guys to get back on the map ASAP.

He's Average At Best

He’s a good guy but just an an average coach, don’t let the record fool you he’ll make mistakes with what players should play and match-up’s. He sometimes seems to favor players even when they’re out there playing like complete duds which can be a gift and a curse. To wrap this all up the guy really couldn’t handle the locker room here in Cleveland, don’t be fooled He’ll sound good in the media but that’s about it. Don’t expect any miracles in Hollywood.

thanks for the luck

Brown will make you a great defensive team! He is a real good coach. I do think he will let the stars players do what they want to much and he didnt do to great with the huge games(finals) but the CLE FO gave him a real bad team around lebron. So i think he will do great there and you guys just gained another….not fan so much as….i dont hate the lakers anymore :)

o while your getting our coach you want sessions too?

As a Popovich disciple, he knows defense very well and should help the Lakers in that respect. PJ was a great coach, but not the best on the D side.

However, Brown never had an offensive plan other than to let LJ dribble down the shot clock to under 8 seconds and then do his thing.

Now whether or not that was due to LJ’s ego and he deferred to him, or if he honestly couldn’t come up with an offensive gameplan, I have no idea.

You will play very good defense. Your offense will not be as good as you’re used to.

Championship?

I guess the Lakers have to wait at least five years before their next championship! Celebrating right now? #1 Mike Brown….#2 All contenders outside of L.A.

I liked the guy. The Lakers are a more experienced team than we were when he was here, but he needs a tighter grip on his players. He needs to show the Lakers that he leads the team first, not the players. LeBron walked all over him like a doormat while Brown was our coach.

Adam Foote still blows!

Certainly Mike Brown wasn’t a terrible coach but he isn’t a good fit for the Lakers. Kobe will walk all over him and I don’t see him being able to coast with that roster. Get used to annoying and inconsistent player rotations LAL fan.

I thought he was fine but the lakers fans are not happy at all!

if he doesnt let Kobe walk all over, he will do fine. Plus he is bringing in that Italian coach who is the best coach over there and want to come to NBA some say could have been a head coach. He is a great offensive coach i have heard.

Brown was a good guy. That’s pretty much it in a nutshell. ’

Hopefully he’s leaned from his experience with Lebron and can provide more tangible leadership the second time around. I wish him and the Lakers good luck going forward.

I personally think we never really should of fired Brown. I remember the year he won Coach of the Year and we lost to the Magic, and people still wanted him gone. I think he was a great coach. It’s already hard enough to win in the postseason. And lets just say, it’s a little harder to win in the postseason in Cleveland. He was a fine coach and I wish him the best. GO CAVS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He stunk in the playoffs. His usage of his players didn’t make any sense. He was too caught up in getting his “best” players on the court instead of playing matchups.
