Derrick Williams 1, Brandon Knight 4

I know its not a popular opinion, and most people want Kyrie Irving at 1 but I like Williams and Knight,

Star-divide

I dont see why Kyrie Irving is the clear cut number 1.  He does seem like a safer pick than Brandon Knight, but Knight seems to have a higher ceiling.  Knight is a better scorer, and during the second half of the season seemed to learn to be more of the pass first point gaurd.  Hes not needed to start right away and could learn from Baron.  He had a 4.3 gpa in highschool, and a 4.0 in college, so he should be smart enough to learn how to play point in the NBA.  I also think Williams can be a dominent PF, and a decent SF.  He can play a good post game, and would be one of the most athletic PFs in the league.  He was never one to force shots in college, so he can pick and choose his shots playing PF and can shoot the 3 when needed too.  He is not quick enough to cover the faster SFs in the league, but he could play there and have success, but would be a better PF.  As much as I like HIckson, him coming of the bench as the 6th man, or a lineup with WIlliams, Hickson, Andy, in the front court could cause mismatches.  I think Williams at 1 and Knight at 4 would be the best way for the cavs to go.  If Knight goes 3, then we can still draft Val, or Kanter.  As much as people say its a point gaurd league, the best teams are led by forwards.  Durant, Lebron, Dirk.  The Bulls couldnt last because Rose was their only threat.  Deron Williams and Chris Pauls teams arent really huge threats either.

Knight won’t last past Utah at 3.

Could the timberwolves draft Kanter

then Irving would go three? With Rubio coming over would they really draft Irving. Obviously they would try to trade the pick and that could easily happen, but just a thought. Also if Knights gone they could draft Val and have the Center and Foreward they want and let Sessions and Davis run point untill next years draft.

I agree

since when is the NBA a PG league? When did an elite point guards team win a title? You need athletic big men to win in this league and that is Williams. I hate Brandon Knight seems like a ball hog and a terrible shooter to me. Why not take Williams at #1 and Kanter at #4. Trade Hickson and Jamison for a future unprotected 1st. Then hopefully next year we could take Harrison Barrnes. Imagine that front court

SF Harrison Barnes
PF Williams
C Kanter

I also think that given time to develop Christian Eyanga is going to be very good starter in this league.

When did it become a PG league?

You should probably check with the Miami Heat!

Dallas had one true point guard

Berra and Terry were not really point guards in fact I would call them shooting guards despite their height. I also was saying ELITE pg which Kidd, Berra or Terry are definitely not that.

at the end of the season

Knight seemed to be more of a facilitator of the offense instead of the scorer. I would rather go val than kanter. But I agree with everything else. Williams would be one of the most athletic 4s in the league, and can shoot as good as most of them too. He has the size and strength to play 4, and the only reason he is considered a tweener 3/4 is because he can shoot so good imo.

even if he was, he was still very careless with the basketball. He had 5 assists per game durin that time, but he also was turning it over 3 times a game. His ballhandling in the tourney was atrocious. I don’t know if he can facilitate and run an offense, especially under pressure.

You are completely blinded by your love of Derrick Williams. You seriously think that the only reason they say he is a “tweener” is because he is too good? He is not extremely strong and does not have the strength to guard the PF position.

Guys like Amare and Boozer could push him around and not even break a sweat. He is athletic, but he is not that quick, and quickness (especially lateral quickness) is much more important as a perimeter defender. He would not be able to guard the quicker SFs in the league. Plus, he always looked lazy on D and many times let easy baskets in. He will never be a good defender, but he doesn’t seem to try that hard. He also can be quite turnover/foul prone.

He is a poor man’s Jamison and he does not have anywhere near the shot that Jamison had.

right now, possibly because jamison is old. When Jamison first came out? probably not.

I totally agree with that awesome front court

If you replace Kanter with JV and Williams with JJ

I'm not sold on this Valanciunas either...

I’ve heard that Kanter can play Center just as well as he can play PF. That reads versatility to me all the way.

Valanciunas says that he mimics his game from “Big Z”. I know Z is a fan favorite, but he is not someone to mimic your game after. He can’t rebound unless the opposing Center is 6’9" and has a broken ankle.

Kanter is thick and is just as tall as Dwight Howard. He might not have the reach that Howard does, but Kanter can stretch the post with his shooting ability and the guy has a pretty sweet stroke. I would absolutely love to see Varejao and Kanter on te floor together at the same time. They can both crash on the boards and Andy can hold down the post defensively.

I want Irving and Kanter in Cleveland. Batman and Robin, baby!

PG – Irving
SG – Davis
SF – Iguodala (Here’s hoping!)
PF – Hickson
C – Varejao

Big Z, before injuries and time caught up with him, was an All-Star center with a pretty complete all-around game. Of course someone from Lithuania would idolize Big Z.

I see Kanter as much better right now

But JV will be much much better in long run and thats what matters to me. Also if you are basing the pick off of wanting to see Varejeo and Kanter on floor to together, then you should think more long term because he wont be around that many more years.

you are also looking at the 35 year old Z who couldn’t jump at all because he had so many injuries to his legs. Zs wingspan was a bit above 7’6’’ and Jonas’ is between 7’4’’ and 7’6’’. He also has even more athleticism than Z had as a rookie (before the injuries).

You are really going to compare Kanter to Dwight Howard? Kanter is not very athletic. Howard is a freak in that he is super strong, but also has a 7’5’’ wingspan and a 35’’ max vertical. These numbers just dwarf Kanter. Even without these, Kanter would not be the shotblocker/defender that Howard is.

I like Kanter, thats just a ridiculous comparison

Defense win championships and D-Will has none. Hell, a sieve has more defense at times than D-Will.
