Anderson Varejao is known for his crazy hair, relentless hustle, and his...flopping ways. However, the big Brazilian claims that he doesn't do that flopping thing anymore.
Much was made about Dion Waiters' conditioning when he showed up to Summer League in Vegas. At Media Day, Waiters insisted that he made the necessary changes.
Veteran swingman Kelenna Azubuike has been plagued by knee injuries over the past several seasons. At Cavaliers Media Day on Monday, Kelenna claims that his knee is completely healthy for the first time in years. With a clean bill of health, Azubuike is ready to restart his NBA career and contribute to the Cavaliers, he tells Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beacon Journal.
Kelenna Azubuike says he's 100% healthy, anxious to show he can still play. He could help #Cavs at 2/3 if his knee is right
At his best, he was a solid defender and competent offensive player. He was a good three-point shooter and that's something that the Cavaliers could certainly use. It's reasonable to assume that the multiple knee injuries will have sapped much of his athleticism and lateral agility, so he probably won't be as effective as he used to be. Nevertheless, he's with the team in camp and will have a chance to prove himself and make the roster. At this moment in time, I wouldn't expect him to make the final cuts, but you never know.
Remember how I said that the training camp roster stood at just 19 players and they had room to add a 20th player? Well the Cavaliers did that today, according to the team and reported by various members of the media.
Justin Holiday, the brother of Sixers' guard Jrue Holiday, will join the Cavaliers for training camp. He played relatively well for the Cavs in Las Vegas at Summer League. He's a long wing with a nice shooting stroke and defensive upside. He'll get a shot to make the team over the next several weeks.
While I'll be updating this story stream regularly throughout the day, perhaps the best way to follow along with Cavaliers media day is Twitter. Here's a list of Twitter accounts you should follow so that you don't miss any coaching platitude or any unbounded optimism. This is the beginning of training camp, everybody is in the best shape of their lives and everybody wants to win the NBA Championship. It's naive, but it's fun. Let's do this.
