It's Obvious

It's obvious by now to all Cavs fans what Varejao means to this team and what he brings to every game. For TT, he did a good job for his Andy impression & the activity he brought in the last game, but its still not enough. For Erden & Hollins, even if they were both on the floor and Cavs had 6 men on the court, still cant match Andys production, energy and skills

Its obvious with injuries with Boobie has hurt the guard position. Gee at the #2 guard isn't the answer. He is so much better and comfortable at #3. We need him there cuz Casspi still isnt showing much. Lose of Parker means nothing because the actually play better since he is out. The are releasing Uzoh today, but he didn't look to bad for little he played.

We have too many PF, so isnt there a way to send Harangody down, or something so they can sign Manny Harris. Harris has been playing great in Canton and putting big numbers up. At least sign him for 10day contrct, play him and see what he brings.

Could sure use his help in the back court to spell the few we have and get a real SG. Rotation now is wearing the backcourt down. When Parker comes back it will be same ol' thing -- very little offense and still running 3 steps behind whoever he's guarding.

What do you think Cavs fans ?

Harangody has been down and he can go back but we have an open roster spot now since Uzoh is gone so that is doubtful. There is a chance Harris gets signed to fill Uzoh’s place.

But yea, I don’t get why everyone is so obsessed with Harris when the answer to the SG problems is obvious to me.

Do you have a time machine that we use to fast forward to drafting Bradley Beal?

not with the 12th pick we cant … Meyers Leonard will look good in a Cavs uniform. Would anyone trade Jamison for Ben Gordon? or Jamison and Sessions for Monta Ellis and Andris Biedrins?

by davidzavac on Feb 20, 2012 7:52 PM CST up reply actions

we have plenty of cap room, none of those people have contracts that will last longer than 2 years after this season, we need scoring guards if Varejao and Thompson are gonna play together, it allows us to try and draft a real center, or we could still go with a real wing to compliment Gee and Gordon/Ellis. i think either one might be helpful

I don’t think either of those are the options that Chris Grant is looking for, honestly.

Monta Ellis is the Javale McGee/DeMarcus Cousins of guards. I don’t understand why you want him.

im just saying people didnt really have incredibly high opinions of Chauncey Billups or Rasheed Wallace before they got to Detroit. Having some of these “trouble” guys on the team after we have already established a good team atmosphere, and with a serious coach like Byron Scott, could work out. There is risk, obviously. But trying to find value for Jamison’s deal is pretty hard. And I dont think we are a team that really has to worry about the salary cap too much. Right, now we are have just under 30 mill in cap space for next season.

Well right now we are slated as the 10th pick. Beal will go around 8-10 unless something changes before the draft.

all of the wings, including Lamb and Beal, are in the top 8 of Ford’s list

John will not be pleased to see that in the new mock drafts he just posted, Ford has the Cavs taking Meyers Leonard over Jeremy Lamb. I honestly might prefer Lamb to Beal

Also, unlike in baseball, when a player is sent to the d-league it does not create a roster spot for the NBA team sending the player. Harangody will still count towards our 15 player maximum if sent to the d-league.

Well we got what we wanted, Manny Harris has signed a 10 day contract with us.

Trade options

Marvin Williams is apparently unhappy. Contract not the greatest but not horrible. Hawks need a backup PG. Sessions for Williams maybe?

Read somewhere that Bucks want to rid of Stephen Jackson but may have to include a younger guy to do it. Name mentioned was Ersan Ilyasova, who is having a solid year. Don’t know what it would take but Jamison’s expiring contract might look attractive and makes the salaries match up

Would want more than Williams for Sessions.

two very conflicting posts here

by vottomatic on Feb 21, 2012 11:26 AM CST up reply actions

the way i see it is he is a talented wing that is 25 years old, has great size, can guard a couple positions, can shoot a bit, would do well with a talented point guard, is eager to prove himself, wants a bigger role, which we can give him, and fits a need. Gee would be able to slide to a backup role or to the 2. Irving-Beal-Williams-Thompson-Varejao is a very athletic starting unit with a lot of upside.

Williams makes less than 8 mil a year, which hardly puts a dent in our situation. I dunno, if Sessions for Williams is something the Hawks would do I would jump on it immediately

by davidzavac on Feb 21, 2012 11:52 AM CST up reply actions

I was thinking the same as you. But Conrad admittedly knows a lot more about this stuff than I do. And from what I had read a lot of people seem down on Williams. Sure he’s not the spectacular player he was projected to be, but he’s not bad by any means. Could be a solid buy low guy in my opinion

i would like to have llyasova!!!!!!!!

marvin williams has an awesome contract. it would take more than Sessions to get him, and I dont know if our assets (gee, casspi) that we could add to the trade would make it worth their while

by davidzavac on Feb 21, 2012 11:25 AM CST reply actions

How is that an awesome contract? You’re tied in for 2 more years after this one for 8 mil a year. He has a career PER of 13.7..booooo

FearTheSword, SBNation's Cleveland Cavaliers blog

by Conrad Kaczmarek on Feb 21, 2012 12:56 PM CST up reply actions

his PER the last couple years has been in the 16 range, he hasnt had a point guard to set him up, hasnt been a primary offensive option, gets inconsistent minutes, plays with guys who arent known distributors. awesome contract was probably strong. but i would rather pay him 8 million a year than mo williams, and a lot of the other guys out there that get overpaid.

furthermore, we have a lot of cap room to use, and we arent getting any max free agents in the next couple years. Williams contract would be ending right around the time we need to re-up Kyrie Irving (god willing). Taking on “bad contracts” is what we are in great position to do. give people a change of scenery, it wont significantly hurt our cap flexibility (8 mil is really not very much), hope you get lucky

by davidzavac on Feb 21, 2012 3:29 PM CST reply actions

If the trade happened i definitely could understand it for cap reasons. after this year its only two more years ( the last year being a 7.5mil player option). And to fulfill cap needs we could do worse. A free agent this summer (if we had to overpay to hold cap space) would probably have more years. Who know maybe he’ll be alright.
