2012 Draft Lottery Do's & Dont's

{Editor's note: FP'd}

Never written anything on FTS before and honestly it is for no good reason. I'm from Ohio and go to college in NC so it is nice seeing what real Cav fans are saying about the team. As all of you are I'm completely ecstatic for Wednesday night and can't wait to see where if Cleveland is lucky again. Last year I was too depressed to be hopeful but with the smart moves the management has made over the last two years I'm growing confident that the might be competent and not being run by a walrus with a mustache like the Browns (I'm just mad about having a 28 year old first round pick). Enough of that though here is everything a Cavs fan should and shouldn't be doing/hoping during the Lottery and the month building up to the draft.

"DO's"

First and foremost everyone of you need to obtain a bow-tie and any form of glasses to wear for the lottery. I'm a firm believer in you make your own luck and that karma is nonsense but I do believe in solidarity and it sounds like the whole Cavs entourage is going full on Nick Gilbert and I will be too damnit. How can you not root for the adorable little bastard?

Hope that Dan Gilbert has made an investment into the David Stern retirement fund. Seriously though Lebron made the value of the organization increase incalculably and Stern knows that if Cavs hit the jackpot and get Anthony Davis that he is just about guaranteeing it will stay that valuable. The Bobcats aren't filling their building with or without Davis, with the Cavs or Wiz you have two marketable young up'n'comers on the same team which translates into a team that can get ratings AKA the only thing he gives a shit about. Hopefully we beat the Wiz out because Stern doesn't feel like getting angry drunk e-mails in the middle of the night from Danny boy.

Which brings me to the obvious hope we are all stenciling in unibrows with our Varejao wigs next season. I'll assume anyone who cares this much about basketball doesn't need any further explanation on that. I'm torn between MKG and Beal as which one I think would fit with Kyrie the best but that is a different discussion.

Finally where and whoever you watch the lottery and subsequent draft which make your plans involve alcohol, it makes things like drafting people named Milan Macvan even more fun.

"DONT'S"

Please for your own sanity don't rack your brain thinking of potential trades that aren't ever going to happen unless someone's GM has recently decided to include meth in their diet. I haven't been on this site for a bit and today I see someone acting like there is any feasible way we could turn Varejao into Pau Gasol... please don't do this to yourself, I do it with the tribe all the time and once every decade we actually pull a trade like the one last year for Ubaldo. I'm just old enough to remember getting Shawn Kemp unfortunately.

Also anyone who likes a world with Barnes as an important piece on the squad you're kidding yourself. Trust someone who is down here in Tar Heel country the dude isn't making an impact on the Cavs. I can't imagine why Drummond (under 30% on his free throws!!!) would please anyone either, Fab Melo is better and is going to be picked much later.

It is fun to imagine we're the next OKC (who are playing as I write this) but as someone who spent seven years convinced that I was going to finally "witness" my first Cleveland sports parade let's stay realistic. Somewhere in between thinking Shaq was final piece and having my father try and convince me to give Colt McCoy a real chance I realized being a Cleveland sports fan is a form of self-mutilation, thankfully I enjoy the pain but everytime I hear someone getting pumped about this being "our year" it ends up being someone else's.

In conclusion, my father is 65 years old and was present at the 1964 NFL championship game the last time Cleveland won anything other than Bill Simmon's most depressing sports city. 25 to 30 times a year I hear him say the following quote during one of our many sport conversations "I just hope one of the three win something before I die." With Kyrie and the assets accumulated the Cavs have the look of being the next team to be able and make some sort of noise, for all that is holy please give that old, hearing aided, fake toothed father of mine something to smile about Chris Grant. I plan on being more regular here much love to all Cav fans. If they win the lottery again I'm going to make a Nick Gilbert t-shirt.

BEAT THE HEAT!!!
