NBA Draft Prospect Profiling: Jeff Taylor

{Editor's note: FP'd because I have loved Jeff Taylor for a while now}

Wait...who? No way we grab this guy at #4, that'd be a MAJOR reach...but this isn't all about who is there at 4, this is about figuring out who can play on the wing with Kyrie. And this 6'7, 230lb athletic SF might just be a guy we see slide to the 2nd round.

The main reason for that is that he is ball-handling challenged. I think Yao Ming just might be a better ball handler. His wing span is said to be less than spectacular too, though some have contended his defense is still on par with MKG. Overall, this is NOT a guy who will create for himself in any way shape or form. But that's OK, because not every player needs to be able to do that...and if you loaded a team up with that kind of player, you'd look about as offensively awkward as the Miami Heat in the half-court. His free throw shooting leaves something to be desired as he only connected on 60% of them (which is weird because he has steadily declined every year since his Sophomore year.)

His biggest strength (outside of his outrageous athleticism) is his work ethic. He spent 4 years at Vandy and improved his 3 point shot to 42% (from 22%). His form is much smoother and his release much quicker over 4 years. His 3point improvement was from a small sample size either, he actually took 156 last year. He is a solid rebounder (particularly on the offensive side of the ball) where he attacks the rim with abandon. Doesn't turn the ball over a lot. Said to be a decent passer too.

He moves very well without the ball, loves to cut baseline on the backside (which with his hops, should lead to a lot of easy lobs for Kyrie.) Has a solid midrange shot that could very well extend to the NBA 3.

I don't know that I want him at #24. But if we were to draft Beal/Lamb at 4, I could see him coming into the 2nd round and giving us a solid starter...or even a 6th man.

Here is his DraftExpress profile. Definitely worth reading up on.
