There's no doubt that Alonzo Gee put a lot of work into this past season and it showed with his energy on the court and his stifling defense. His offensive game improved throughout the season and he brought some excitement back to Cleveland with his explosiveness and is a definite fan favorite. With that said, I still think the Cavs would be much better off with him coming off the bench. He's young and still has to learn to shoot from 15 feet and beyond. Dion Waiters is a big time lift at SG and will provide scoring immediately as I believe he is the most NBA ready player in the draft besides Davis obviously, but he too will need to improve his outside shooting to a degree. So, why not look into the possibilities for a scoring shooter at the Small Forward position like Rudy Gay? Memphis is already looking to deal him and he will bring offense right away to the cavs. Take out his rookie season and he has consistently averaged right around 20 points per game. His outside shooting isn't Ray Allen but he has shown he can knock it down in clutch situations. With him at the 3 it will open up even more opportunities for Kyrie and company to score. Yes it may take a trade of a few picks a player like boobie and an expiring contract like luke walton but after Lebron just won that championship the Cavs and Dan GIlbert have to be hungrier than ever. Think about this potential lineup for the first game:
PG: Irving SG: Waiters SF: Gay PF: Thompson C: Zeller
With guys like Varejao, Gee, Harris ,recently signed Kevin Jones, Azubuike and Erden coming off the bench.
Others could be added, too. I dont know about you guys but I am very excited for the cavs season and believe they have a bright future ahead. Irving will be top 5 best PG in the league next season and Waiters will grow into an offensive force and will bring toughness to this team. I love the energy Gee brings every night but I think we all know the cavs are one star away from contention again and Gay will definitely help. The Cavs cannot be afraid to spend a little money especially with all the cap space we have. There comes a time when a team has to make a move and that time starts now for the Cavs. Stay positive Cavs fans, the future is looking bright for this team.
