So, with so little (no) basketball news lately, I had an idea. I'm going to chronicle the drafts from 2000-2009 and see, had the Cavaliers known how the players would turnout, how the Cavs could have been. This will be split into two posts, a preparing for having James, and one for while we had him.
Okay, the 2000 draft class sucked. Kenyon Martin was the first pick. Yeah. The Cavs drafted Jamal Crawford, but traded him for Chris Mihm. I would have rather had Crawford, but I don't really care much about either.
Players we missed out on:
So, not much really. We probably still would have sucked. I'll say we keep the guys we took and move on to 2001
2001
In this year, we drafted DeSagana Diop. We missed a few good players. But by the time we were regularly competing, they may have been getting too old
Players we missed out on:
Looking at the drafts later on, I would say the best option here would have been Joe Johnson.
New Roster so far:
Joe Johnson
2002
The Cavs drafted DaJuan Wagner in 2002. I'm sorry, but who is this guy? This is where it gets ugly and sad.
Players we missed out on:
Nene
Amar'e Stoudemire
Best pick here is pretty obvious. Amar'e.
Changed Roster so far:
Joe Johnson
Amar'e Stoudemire
2003
I"m not going to change this. Obviously. We got LeBron. The second pick was Jason Kapono. The only one we missed was Mo Williams. I'll leave it as is then
Roster:
Joe Johnson
Amar'e Stoudemire
So this looks like an amazing team. Now, this assumes that the picks stay where they are even with the different players. That is not really realistic, but I am not going to do projections. If we had Joe Johnson and Amar'e, there is no way we'd have the first pick. But this is just a fun little thing to keep us from being bored with no basketball whatsoever. If you have any disagreements state them, but give justifiable reasons. Next will be the drafts from 2004-2009.
