Jarrett Jack sidelined with knee injury, out 10 days

David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

The Cavaliers have been impressive in their first two preseason games, but now they face some injuries as the regular season approaches.

The Cleveland Cavaliers fought through an injury plagued season last year and decided that they needed to add some depth for the 2013-14 campaign. Even though the regular season hasn't started yet, it appears that said depth will be put to good use. According to the Cavaliers' official website, Jarrett Jack and Carrick Felix have suffered relatively minor injuries.

Cavaliers guard Jarrett Jack has chondromalacia in his left knee (inflammation/irritation of cartilage on the underside of the patella). A treatment plan has been established and started that will result in Jack being out for approximately 10 days.

The good news is that this is just preseason and hopefully Jack will be healthy by the time the regular season rolls around. I have to assume that the Cavs are being extra cautious and don't want to risk further injury to Jack's knee. But it's unfortunate that Jack will miss out on some valuable practice time as the team works on learning Mike Brown's defensive system.

Carrick Felix's injury is pretty vague. He has a mild sports hernia, but the Cavs' website gives no indication of how long he'll be out.

Cavaliers guard/forward Carrick Felix was evaluated for groin pain today. A related MRI revealed a mild sports hernia. He will undergo treatment and a period of continued evaluation. There is no immediate timetable established for his return to play, but his status will be updated as appropriate and based on the results of his ongoing evaluation.

Again, I assume the Cavs are being cautious with Felix and hopefully this remains a minor injury. Felix won't play as large a role on this year's Cavs team as Jack will, but it's never good to see anybody go down. Felix is the type of aggressive, physical defender that coach Brown wants on the perimeter and it'd be great to see him get every chance to contribute this year.

We don't really know the extent of these injuries at the time, so all we can really do is wait and see what updates the team offers as preseason rolls on.
