HoopsWorld: Lakers Make Push for Boobie Gibson

In a day where rumors have been few and far between for Cavaliers' fans, they finally get one they can sink their teeth into.

Yannis Koutroupis of HoopsWorld.com reports that the Lakers are looking for perimeter help and inquired about Daniel Gibson.

According to sources the Lakers made a push for Cleveland Cavaliers guard Daniel Gibson, but were not able to put together a deal to Cleveland's liking.

It's kind of shocking to me that the Lakers can't put a deal together for Gibson. Gibson hasn't played meaningful minutes in a game for about a month, and even when he was playing he wasn't really succeeding. To top it off, he's a free agent this offseason who is unlikely to re-sign in Cleveland. Seriously, just throw the Cavs a 2014-2016 conditional pick and I would think that gets it done.

My guess on this is that Chris Grant is trying to find a way to upgrade that first-round pick that the Lakers don't owe us if they miss the playoffs this season.

NBA Trade Deadline: Byron Scott doesn't expect any moves for Cavaliers

Following the Cleveland Cavaliers' 105-100 win against the New Orleans Hornets, reporters asked Byron Scott about potential moves for the Cavs at the trade deadline. Coach Scott responded that he thought a trade was unlikely.

Byron will be in Los Angeles for the funeral of Jerry Buss, the longtime owner of the Los Angeles Lakers. He figured that he'll call Chris Grant once he lands in LA to see if anything is going on, but seems to think that he'll have all the same guys in the locker room on Friday.

"I'm not expecting anything to happen. Chris [Grant] hasn't talked to me about anything."

NBA Trade Rumors: HoopsWorld Reports Spurs Show Interest in Casspi

The Omri Casspi saga may finally come to an end within the next 18 hours. According to Steve Kyler of HoopsWorld.com, The San Antonio Spurs have inquired about Casspi. I'm as surprised as you are.

Sources close to the process peg the San Antonio Spurs has a good fit and a team that has expressed some interest in Casspi, the problem is they won't offer much for him. If the Cavs would do a DeJuan Blair based deal, the Cavs could find a taker on Casspi fairly quick.

I'd CERTAINLY take a Blair for Casspi deal. That would allow the Cavaliers to trade Marreese Speights for some value without losing too much talent this year. Blair actually has a lot of the same strengths that Speights does, in that he's a good rebounder with decent scoring instincts. Just to provide full disclosure, DeJuan Blair grew up about 25 minutes from where I did, which means I'll always root for him to succeed. But I actually think he can be a useful player for this Cavalier team.

Even if Blair isn't involved, it's probably a good idea just to get Casspi off of this Cavalier team. He's clearly been unhappy with his playing time and role over the past couple of months, and barring injury I can't see anything changing. Casspi might become an extremely valuable player for the Spurs because Gregg Popovich sold his soul to the devil in exchange for the ability to resurrect seemingly dead careers. I'm willing to deal with that. But he's definitely not reaching his potential here, so you might as well send him somewhere that he might.

Keep it with Fear The Sword for all of your trade deadline needs. We'll be covering everything as it rolls in.

Twitter Recommended Cavs' Deadline Deals

So with a complete lack of rumors swirling about the Cavaliers Wednesday, I thought it would be a fun idea to take to twitter and try to look at what some people are saying about what the Cavs could do over the course of the next (now only) 19 hours. Some of these are real ideas, some are totally hypothetical, and others are just fun. I'll have a real update before I go to bed tonight (or if there's big news that is released), but until then, have fun!

Amin is the co-Editor-in-Chief of Hardwood Paroxysm and used to live in Cleveland. It's a good idea in theory. Melo played with Waiters at Syracuse and the two of them together were probably the Orange's most important players last season. Plus, he'd have the Brazilian connection with Anderson Varejao. Varejao could actually be a pretty big boon for Melo's career if he could mentor him. While Varejao has never been the shot-blocker that Melo has the potential to be, he does have great instincts for rotations and how to contest without fouling. Unfortunately, I'm not sure it's practical. The Celtics are looking for guards, and really the only effective ones the Cavs can offer up are Shaun Livingston and Wayne Ellington. I'm not sure either of them gets a deal for Melo done. I also don't think I'd want to give up much more than that. Actually there were quite a few things about the Cavs acquiring Melo, including this:

Don't know what the problem with that could ever be. Daniel Gibson is a two-time competitor in the Foot Locker Three-Point Contest. Melo's only been in the D-League. A first-rounder seems like a totally reasonable way to make up the vast chasm in their skills due to those essential facts.

(okay, so this is maybe the most ridiculous "rumor" that has come up yet about the Cavs and there is literally no chance of it ever happening. But it's fun to joke about at least.)

This is one of those totally hypothetical questions for people to think about. Would you do this? I...Yeah I don't know. I probably would. The first would have to be something like top-7 protected though. But then again, considering the Kings just gave up Thomas Robinson for basically three filler pieces, I'd assume we could get Cousins for Marreese Speights, Omri Casspi and a future 2nd. Actually, speaking of Speights...

Screen_shot_2013-02-20_at_8

Well first, Kendrick Perkins and Jeremy Lamb are pretty different players, so I don't understand the either/or sentiment here. Second, I want Kendrick Perkins NOWHERE near the Cavaliers. Huge contract and he's useless. But overall I do think that Speights could be useful for the Thunder. In the podcast that was released today, Conrad mentioned the Reggie Jackson idea. I like that a lot. As much as I want Shaun Livingston to stay, Jackson is a good player who could be an awesome backup point guard here for a long time. Lamb isn't a bad idea either. I'd certainly rather have Lamb going forward than only have Speights for possibly the rest of this year. I probably wouldn't even require a pick in return if the Cavs got either of those two guys.

Okay so this one is just a little mean spirited.

It's also entirely true. Please, anyone.
