With the college regular season finishing up this weekend, each team has played about 30 games. This gives us a reliable sample size from which to draw some conclusions about the top prospects. Versions 1.0 & 2.0 involved a lot more guesswork & assumptions because we didn't have nearly as much data at the time. I have much more confidence in this list, and the top half really shouldn't change much between now and the draft. The bottom half is less clear, but each of these players has the potential to be a really good fit on our team.
For this version I purged half of the players from v2.0. Here's who got cut and why:
SG Ben McLemore - great player, but I decided he wouldn't be able to defend NBA SFs, so there's simply no place for him on the roster.
PF Anthony Bennett - another great player, but better off as a stretch 4 than at SF.
C Cody Zeller - Not an imposing presence in the paint.
SF/PF/C Isaiah Austin - I don't even know what he is, and I don't think he does either. Not skilled enough to play on the perimeter, not strong enough to play in the paint. Great measurements, but little else, just like previous Baylor bigs Perry Jones & Quincy Miller.
PF Alex Poythress - Like Bennett, he's better off as a stretch 4 as shown here by Sam Vecenie.
So, who made the cut this time? Here's the list:
1. Nerlens Noel, C (ESPN = 2, DX = 1)
2. Rudy Gobert, C (ESPN = 18, DX = 9)
T-3. Otto Porter, SF (ESPN = 4, DX = 10)
T-3. Shabazz Muhammad, SF (ESPN = 8, DX = 3)
5. Alex Len, C (ESPN = 7, DX = 5)
6. Victor Oladipo, SG/SF (ESPN = 6, DX = 8)
7. *** Top Secret ***
8. Steven Adams, C (ESPN = 23, DX = 22)
9. Lucas Nogueira, C (ESPN = 62, DX = 37)
10. Patric Young, C (ESPN = 28, DX = 38)
In the comments I will write a paragraph about each player explaining why I chose them. This will provide a root for discussion of each one of these players. (This will be done progressively over the weekend as I have time, feel free to discuss those I haven't written about yet. Except for #7 of course ;-)
