Now before everyone completely eliminates this article of any credibility, recognize that Love won't be in a Wine & Gold uniform this season. There will be no blockbuster trade for Kevin Love, and the #1 pick won't even be involved in the acquisition. Love will come to Cleveland by Free Agency, becoming the first big name free agent to willingly come to Cleveland in the history of ever. The truth may just be that Kevin Love wants to be here.
Love has said publicly that he doesn't need or want to be on a big name team in a big name city. The 6'10" 24 year old big man just wants to play ball, and he balls pretty well. The reason for his departure from Minnesota derives from multiple things. It has been well documented that Love wants to play for a winner. This doesn't completely means he wants out of the Wolves organization, but the way the team has been plagued by defeat, and the direction Cleveland is headed, with young talent and cap space, a huge opportunity has opened for Love. Speaking of talent, specifically Kyrie Irving, this may just be the main reason why Love will join Cleveland Basketball. As displayed by the ever popular Pepsi Max commercials featuring Irving as "Uncle Drew" and Kevin Love as "Wes", the two young stars are great friends (and we all know what friendships can do in free agency). This, along with the other young players such as Waiters, Tristan, and maybe Nerlens Noel, will attract Love to a team where he will have a shot at the Finals. When it's all set and done, Love will join our young squad and give us hope.
What truly matters, however, is what the all-star will bring to the team when he arrives. While averaging 18.5 PPG this past season, along with an outside touch, he will bring instant offense to the Cavs organization. Also his outstanding 14.0 RPG will be an unbelievable boost to the play of the team, especially if Anderson Varejao is traded. Though he does not play defense very well, he is capable and the addition of Noel will make up for his deficiencies. Besides his play and skill, he brings leadership to Cleveland. Although Love is only 24 currently, his play on Team USA will give him the experience to lead a team. He is also going to add a veteran player to a young organization. This role, as a leader, may be the most important role he can play for a team that he will eventually lead to a championship run.
Everyone should forget LeBron back to Cleveland, it is a pipe dream. But the realistic acquisition of Kevin Love is possible, and may just come true when his contract is up. The rumors may have officially died off as of this offseason, but don't think that Chris Grant is done courting Kevin Love.
