Dion Waiters vs Ben McLemore

There has been a lot of speculation and talk around taking Ben Mclemore 1st overall in the upcoming draft, even though we already have a starting SG. In this article I will compare Mclemore to Waiters in order to gauge whether or not a SG is the best choice for #1.

What does this mean?

Dion Waiters is a better defender then Ben McLemore without a doubt. He boasts a higher defensive rating, more steals, and more defensive win shares.

Ben McLemore however, is a better offensive player. He averages more points, a higher offensive rating, a higher FG%, and a higher 3PT%.

One thing that must be remembered though, is that Dion played bench minutes at Syracuse, while McLemore was a starter. Would Dion match McLemores numbers if he started? Probably not, but they would be much closer.

Tell me what you think. Is it worth it taking 2 SGs in consecutive years when they are so close together in talent? Or do we take a high risk/reward player? What about the high floor guy? Let me know.
